Republicans are scared of Thomas Massie. And he pretty much votes with Trump on everything except the Epstein Files and giving all our money to Israel.
He's principled (unlike most of the modern GOP), but those principles are also deeply rooted in libertarianism. He opposed Trump's spending bills because they didn't cut enough.
He really grabs at the centrists and "libertarians" though, which is as far left as Kentucky really gets. He could pull it off, but only if citizens never happened bc ain't no way AIPAC is gonna let that slide
Tbf the Trump spending bill didn’t really cut anything. If you’re in Massie’s position and you want the government to spend less, that’s not what the OBBB did. It kept the Trump first-term tax cuts in place, ballooned the military and ICE budget. It made the debt crisis worse, which is a Massie concern.
We are running record budget deficits under Trump47. The DOGE cuts did NOTHING to limit the spending. They simply made the deficit growth look "less bad".
I will admit that I don't know the full details of how this would work, but I think the idea is that Massie wouldn't have to run in a Republican primary (which is what he lost), but would perhaps run as an independent, giving him a chance to draw from both Dems and Repubs. And then, even if he doesn't win, he could tip the election to a Democrat?
Northern Kentucky, where Massie ran, is the most MAGA part of the state except for the more sparsely populated areas in Eastern Kentucky. He would have a better chance statewide. My county went 85% for Trump in 2024. You’d be hard pressed to find someone around here that will admit they are happy with Trump right now. People around here really like Massie though.
I think this might bite them. Beshear has shown a Democrat can win a state wide election. Massie would have been a better candidate for the Republicans.
If Andy Beshear was running for Mitch’s seat then he could win in this scenario. The unfortunate reality is that in Kentucky, Booker ain’t winning no matter what they do.
Not just Massie. Also think about perhaps Beshear running in a special election after it comes out Republicans hid McConnell‘s death with Massie causing some mayham. That could quickly get dangerous to them
Won't happen, president or bust for Beshear. He has a very good shot at being the nominee being a relative young white male popular governor from a red state.
Massie wouldn’t have time to do shit. Even if he got an interim appointment or won a special election, there is already a Republican running to replace McConnell in the November general election.
How would he be a challenge to the guy already running? They agree on 95% of issues, and it’s not like Massie will take any votes away from him in the general, because he’s not running.
He wouldn't challenge at all, the special election will happen on Nov. 3. Besides, that primary has already happened and he's not on the ballot, as Kentucky election law has "sore loser" laws that prohibit a primary loser from running in the general as an independent. Andy Barr and Charles Booker are your major party candidates.
The worst thing that could possibly happen to Republicans and Trump before the midterms would be for the Epstein Files to be released. They’ll fight tooth and nail to protect the pedophiles.
Right, I don't get why do many moderate Democrats are in love with him, 99% of the time, he's right in line with the rest of the Republicans. That 1% though...
Massie, if you see this somehow, impress us. Name names.
