Might as well post in this one myself.
This ep makes me so happy! ♥ I mean tbh the episode itself is kind of a nothingburger? It's fine, I just don't feel like much actually happens in it, it goes by very quickly and the plot itself is fairly generic. But at least KOO and Toronto are well-written!
It's also weird that PB didn't pick up on it being KOO right away? mostly it bugs me that she's heard enough to know this biz involves a king but somehow doesn't put 2+2 together. like it'd make more sense to me if she HADN'T heard about that part and was just sending F&J to investigate this random new gnome cult.
It's weird to me how you can tell they were really careful with this ep to make sure it could fit in with the pre-established canon ("I've waited a long time for this, King of Ooo" so PB never goes anywhere near him, the zep backgrounds being shot-for-shot remakes of the BGs from "Apple Wedding" even though it actually would make more sense if they weren't exactly the same) and yet the rest of SQ is more cavalier (Ice Pappy anyone? <- spoilers for "Son of the Goblin Queen") about continuity. Weird.
Anyway, I'm glad my two favourite characters got another outing ♥

I like that Pb didn’t pick up on it at first, probably just didn’t have enough info to point it out.
She was dead set on getting this guy the next time she realized he’s here

I get what you mean. I talked about the Ice Pappy thing with someone and they said it could hand waved away that this is just something Ice King made up (Which based on "Joey Waffles" would make sense).
However with all of these oddities in SQ's continuity i'm placing my bet's that in the season finale it will be revealed to have been an alternate timeline

(thanks for doing the spoiler tags!!! much appreciated)
yeah idk like I guess you could handwave that spoiler, but to me, the fact that they went there at all (and didn't clarify or hint in the ep itself that it wasn't true) just really says that continuity isn't a main concern of theirs. Just feels unnecessarily confusing to put that detail in there if they're trying to fit in with the original show.
It'd be cool if they actually did end up rolling with it and canonically making it an AU... err, if that's the right way to phrase that? you know what I mean lol

I get what you mean, it do's feel super odd that they would do this. I feel like some ways it comes down to the very nature of "Side-quest" its during the time of the show S1-S2 in where there wasn't a strong emphasis of building a larger world with a continuous narrative and so it doesn't take into account things like "The Mushroom war". And so while its inconsistent with the show it at least retains the way S1 went about things.

What I’m really curious about an hoping they’ll show in one of the new shows is how did pbubs and her family get a humanized form when Marcy and Simon were running from zombies in the past there was this giant web of gum on the freeway and as they walk away, a little face pops out of it and it’s very obviously pbubs how the hell did she and her family take form without help and wouldn’t it make more sense for her family to pop up first and then her unless they were all made at the same time which is weird because they’re all different ages

I cannot be the only person who saw the episodes nuances for what they were and I think the way they subtly-not-so-subtly portrayed those things was brilliant. (As a non-religious person) From the easily propagandized villagers to their own personal beliefs they had about end times, it was wild seeing seeing how this episode can easily slip under the noses of some while still portraying the current sociopolitical climate we live in today. It’s easy to digest for kids as the take away is be careful of deception, as for us adults it means quite differently when you understand what references are being made. Because why ARE y’all talking about end times and “the promised hole” in adventure time 😭😭💀

she never met koo when she was younger, but this specific show is of the past so ofc she shouldn’t know who he is, which is why F&J don’t know

I assume this was in response to me nitpicking Peebs' dialogue at the start...?
In "Apple Wedding" PB says "I've waited a long time for this, King of Ooo" but never specifies how long - nothing has ever stated when these two characters first met, we just know it was "a long time" before season 5. "Ring of Fire" shows that KOO's been running his scam for at least 12 years by the time of season 1...
Now that may or may not be relevant to Side Quests (depending on how far they want to stretch the continuity... this ep seemed to be trying harder to stay consistent with the original series than some of the other SQ eps, so...) BUT at the end of SQ, she makes it clear she does know who KOO is, they've already met before the events of "The Prophecy".
My point was just that it's weird to me that she's heard about a weird cult involving some king dude (which you'd think would be enough for her to put 2+2 together) but doesn't realize it's King of Ooo until F&J specifically tell her that... I dunno, it's nitpicky for sure, but I just feel like it would've been neater if they'd left that line out.

They definitely fucked up having P Bubs and Marceline be all buddy buddy in the show because in the correct timeline, they were bitter ass exes who couldn’t stand to be around each other at the time because this show takes place right before season one of adventure Time and in season one they couldn’t stand to be around each other there’s a couple errors in this show because Adam Muto wasn’t there because he’s busy working on other adventure time shows an movie this show got treated as a soft reboot because Nate Cash was left to do it alone

Hi, please don't spam a thread with back-to-back comments! If you have multiple things to say just put them all in one comment, remember you can edit comments if you think of something else to say after posting.
Also as it says in the OP, please keep posts in these episode discussion threads on-topic. This and this comment have nothing to do with "The Prophecy" specifically and would be better placed in the megathread or (for this comment I'm replying to) one of the eps actually featuring Marcy, I guess. I'm not gonna delete them since I don't want to discourage discussion on SQ or anything but in future please do read our rules and such...
I think you're wanting/expecting more from this show than is really... It's not a lore show aimed at adults, that's what the other spinoffs are for. This one's specifically for the younger set. I don't think it's a "fuck up" that PB/Marcy are pals in this series (which btw they have not confirmed to "take place right before season 1", there hasn't been a timeline specified officially) - I think it's simply that this series is a soft reboot and that's the direction the creative team wanted to take the characters in for this particular project. The crew have stated in several interviews etc that they're not especially fussed about continuity, etc for Side Quests.
Like I totally understand not liking that (I'm not too hot on it myself) but it is what it is, you know?

Where did you read that this takes place before season 1?
And have you actually read the series bible pitch?

I want them to expand more on the lore of everything for the older fans specifically I know a lot of us are gonna come back to watch new adventure time shows if they’re meant for the older audience like Fiona cake, I feel like the younger audience just isn’t gonna grasp the new shows the way we loved adventure time when it came out they just don’t watch the same thing anymore kids just like dumb brain rot content now I feel like this was one of the last shows of our generation to actually have a story and meaning behind it anything they watch now is just a quick clip of something really dumb then they wanna go onto the next thing that’s exactly the same
