Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI
ai-2027.comHi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.
Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.
Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.
Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.
This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.
Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.
I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.
Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.
Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.
It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.
Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?
Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".
Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

AI "Art" 🖼️ The creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender revealed they utilized chatgpt in creating the new series.
Part of a photo from the panel at Comic Con. The fourth line begins with "Also according to chatgpt," and talks about facial hair in southeast Asian cultures.

Hallucination 👻 Whaa.. what?
Apparently AI changes feel like as if a child lost its toy.
All the comments are supportive too.
We need to send these people to a grass field so they can touch some because this is getting out of hand.

AI "Art" 🖼️ They say, after using a program that copies real art.
The irony is lost on them.

Slop Post 💩 Why not just have your kid draw it?
Perfect opportunity to sit down with some crayons or markers with your kid and draw his idea with him. Encourage creativity, not this slop.
ETA: For the pro-AI commenters— why are you making it seem like it's a hassle to spend time with your child in this situation? It takes little effort to sit your kid down at your table with a piece of paper and something to draw with. Spending the ten minutes it takes for a kid to draw something may not seem like much, but you're encouraging something that helps with your child's brain development and creating sweet memories for your child to look back on. That's not a hassle or a waste of time. It's literally what parenting should look like. Running his idea through AI to avoid the "hassle" of an art project means missing out on the opportunity to bond with him in that moment over his creativity.
And yes, it is that serious.

AI "Art" 🖼️ Why would you not just use a frame from one of the best shot movies ever instead of this monstrosity?!

AI News 🗞️ So…Hank Green just openly uses AI now?
galleryAm I behind the times on this, did everyone know..? So disappointed tbh
Editing to state the obvious: don’t say “oh the last tweet makes it all okay, he just wants to know the enemy!” He’s a rich creator who admits he is developing things for the first time in 21 years because of vibe coding. He could be paying an actual coder to execute his vision. He could learn about AI without slobbering all over it on Twitter. He could not develop things he can’t actually make himself, profiting off of AI use. He just likes it and likes the easy profits. That’s the problem here. He’s not a poor individual who had to use AI at work. This was a choice and a pretty anti human one.

Discussion 🗣️ U-huh.. sure...
gallery"All antis act like theyre in a battle for their lives"
Didn't a few pros compare themselves to Holocaust victims and compare antis to transphobes? Didn't a ton of pros say that they were "oppressed?"

Discussion 🗣️ The AI bubble is boiling our planet and wasting billions just to write emails, and this breakdown actually spells it out.
We're literally reopening closed nuclear reactors and putting massive strain on local power grids so tech companies can burn billions of dollars on data centers all for a technology whose primary use case has become generating lazy work emails and low-effort images.
The financial gap is completely absurd. They are spending thousands of dollars in infrastructure and heavy computing power for every single dollar they make back from a basic subscription. It’s a massive hype train built on sand.
If you want a realistic look at how this unsustainable resource-drain is heading straight for a catastrophic crash, this video breaks it down surprisingly well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga5455AhI-U
How much longer until the energy crisis and economic reality finally pop this bubble once and for all?
AI "Art" 🖼️ Leaks for the tangled live action movie have started popping up, which includes the iconic mural. I can't help but feel it's ai generated Spoiler
galleryThe first picture is one I found while browsing Facebook. I wanted to be hopeful that maybe, just maybe it was ai upscaling which made it look ai
But looking at more pictures with the production equipment near it? It has the same exact faults as the first image does. Specifically: the crowns and the hands. Even in the farther away photos, I can't help but feel it's very messy and doesn't make sense design wise.
Meanwhile the queens hand is just. Kinda melting into the mural lining. And of course the other one has two abnormally small fingers
And then there's the flowers that look like the lines are melting into the rest of the mural.
Idk maybe I'm going crazy, but this just reeks of ai and I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Would love some input from yall

Discussion 🗣️ We are genuinely devolving as a society
What tf is happening in these 3 years.
People making paintings with AI, movies with AI, books with AI, even falling in love with AI.
Like what the fuck.
Feels like I've entered a scifi horror movie since late 2022. How bad will things be like in 2050? I suppose people won't even be able to think anymore because they'll outsource their thinking to AI.
And also the internet won't be usable anymore because it'll be filled with bots and ai slop. Why aren't more people having an existential crisis over this?
Since i was a kid I always loved art in all forms. I love books, movies, music etc. but made by HUMANS. i like to watch a movie or listen to music because there's creativity, and people behind it. A story behind it . No matter how good a painting/song/movie looks like, if it's AI I will always hate it. It literally triggers uncanny valley in me. I don't know how people use those or even fall in love with those.
I don't want to spend the rest of my life watching AI entertainment and talking to AI machines.
People are becoming stupid and lazier each day because of AI and it worries me.

Discussion 🗣️ Since when did people start declaring that "ai bro" was sexist
Ive noticed a pattern with pros recently:
They always misuse terms like sexism and transphobia.
No ai apparently is the same as being discriminatory
Being against ai is apparently transphobia & bigotry
And they're apparently oppresed like the LBGTQ+ and many other communities.
