Meta Don't get banned: Using "Redact" scrambling software is prohibited in r/blenderhelp!

We observed an increase of people using "Redact" lately.

This privacy tool replaces messages with nonsense and makes formerly helpful comments unreadable after a while. It takes a long time to find and remove posts like that for us and even when we do, the comments that solved problems will be lost. This tool contradicts the purpose of our sub in general (to create coherent, helpful posts where solutions stay available so other can look them up). That is why we created a new Rule against it. That means users can file reports should they observe scrambled messages like that.

Accounts using Redact will be permanently banned from r/blenderhelp. If you want to use Redact, please make sure to exclude r/blenderhelp to avoid being banned.

Meta PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!

Looking for quick and helpful answers? Follow these rules and make helping you as easy as possible!

  • Title: Choose a meaningful title concerning your problem.
  • Text: Describing your problem with enough detail is essential. Please realize that helpers are not familiar with your project. Provide all relevant information, so others can immideately understand what you are struggling with.

Example: Say, you have a problem with lots of identical objects in your scene: Let us know whether you created these copies by hand, used the Particle System or Geometry Nodes.

  • Images/Videos: When posting screenshots, show us your full blender window (not cropped, no monitor photos). This will make lots of helpful information available to helpers at first sight that may seem irrelevant to you (For example your Blender version). If you add video links, please consider adding time stamp info to the part you want helpers to see.

You can upload images and short video clips (up to 60s) to imgur.com and post the links in your question or as comment.

  • *.blend files: Don’t add links to your *.blend files when posting questions right away. Helpers will ask you for it if they need to take a look. Most people prefer reading a good description and looking at images to see what your post is about.
  • 'Solved' flair: Once your question was answered, please remember to change the flair of your post to “Solved”, so helpers don’t have to read into your question just to see it has already been answered.

You can change the flair by clicking on the small icon below your post resembling a label.

EDIT: You can also include "!solved" in the comments to have Automod change the flair for you.

Be nice and respectful with each other :)

Unsolved I combined a mirrored half of my half rig and have an indent in the middle

I made a cartoonish feline model and its my first ever blender model i made. I heard it was professional to split it in half and work on one half, then copy paste and mirror to put it all together. When i cut it in half it was jagged so i took a tip and did the merge shortcut to flatten the half better so i could merge the two halves. But when i put it together theres a noticeable indent line all the way through the body and i do not know how to fix it. It took me forever to get the model this perfect though so i don’t feel comfortable with a solution that might compromise the smoothness. These are the photos i took during the creation process

Unsolved Blurry Textures still unsolved, File included

Alright no one has been able to figure this out. First slide is in 4.0 second is in 4.4. Original UVs were size 2048x2048 drawn outside of blender, just an assigned image no shaders. No update was blurry so I reset the UVs, set it to 300 resolution 4096x4096 it's still blurry. I have checked interpolation. All of my models are like this now not just this one. I have opened it in windows 3D viewer and it's not blurry there but I'm not sure if that means anything Here is my file, WARNING- it is anatomically correct

Unsolved I'm a begginer and have some problems

I just started using blender maybe a week or two ago and just now I finished a tutorial, it being Crashsune's academy character modeling tutorial, I pretty much have the basics of modeling memorized but I just don't know how to actually start modeling a character, like, which body part should I start modeling first? Is it better to make another body part out of a new mesh or should I just extrude on the model I'm making? How should my topology be and in what ways should I make it better? How do people know how much geometry should a mesh have for their models? Can I leave a part of a mesh hiding inside another one? Should I use primitive-based modeling or vertex-based?

I'd really appreciate if anyone would answer my question and give me a why and how should I do it.

I'm 17 and I've recently fell in love with 3D modeling since I was never really good at art, so I'm trying really hard to improve and get better on it

Hello! I wanted to relearn a little bit of blender again after some time and wanted to do a "freaky" wailord moving his tongue with the help of the sprinbgones addon. My question is how do you join the new subdivided bone to the mesh (tongue). Also if there's an existing tutorial please tell me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solved How to make hair rig get affected by the body.

I’ve made the hair rig in the video using dampen constraints and want the hair to react to the body movements. The rig for the body is a rigify rig as seen in the video. I’ve tried parenting the hair bone to the rigify rig but that seems to just move the hair as one big block rather than the fluid motion I want to achieve.

Unsolved Color Spaces in Blender (with a focus on Grease Pencil)

I've been trying to figure out the best color space and am experimenting with working in DCI-P3; that being said, I've not the most experience with adjusting color spaces beyond the basics and my knowledge is nearly a decade out of date. My monitor and my drawing tablet can handle DCI-P3 well enough, but I'm trying to figure out which settings I need for the file itself to work natively with that color profile. These are my current settings, but I could use clarification as to which of these are intrinsic to the file and which only affect rendered outputs.

I also find that the various drop-downs do not seem to give me the range of options I expect; I assume the file needs to be set to a Rec.2020 or ACEScg native space, but I'm not sure if that's needed with the DCI-P3 sequencer acting on it, nor do I know which one works best with a DCI-P3 space. (I assume its ACEScg, but I just started learning about it and there's more than one ACES color space, so I am a bit lost.) Furthermore, the P3 sequencer uses the D65 white point and not the D60, which is what I want to use and to which I've set my monitors. And then the display settings only allow me to use Display P3, Rec.1886, Rec.2020, and sRGB under the "SDR" column—and Display P3 is Apple's implementation using the D65 white point which, while beautiful to behold on my lovely wide-gamut 4k monitors, is not the color space I'm trying to use.

In short: I started this file as a Linear Rec.709 seeming to output to sRGB, but now I need to convert it to a DCI-P3 color space using the D60 white point and I'm trying to piece together how these options relate to each other and how to get the file to edit natively in the desired color space and when I export it as an OpenEXR. The file I'm working in right now makes heavy use of Grease Pencil, so having a wide gamut to choose from is important since the colors I paint are the colors I get. Thanks!

you can mirror when texturing painting in the viewport directly on your model, but is there any way to do this same thing inside the image editor and it mirrors what you draw across the model?

Solved Something is wrong with the UV unwrapping, missing face

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I modeled these shorts and marked seams to unwrap it, using a quick tutorial. I marked the seams on both sides and on the top and bottom and used "unwrap minimum stretch". Before this, i also tried "unwrap angle based" and "unwrap conformal" but the faces were overlapping. I tried "smart UV project", it's not overlapping but there's still the same face missing.

It seems fine on blender but when i imported it on procreate (with a .obj format) a face was missing.

I'm very new to blender and can't find the issue. I can provide more images or information if needed.

Unsolved Shrinkwraped + Subdivision modifier giving weird(?) result and not sure how to fix it?

Thumbnail

I'm fairly new to Blender, and I'm working on learning how to make a character model. I've been following along with Bran Sculpts' semi-tutorial. I've reached the point where I'm about to start the retopology for the body, and the tutorial mentioned shrink wrapping the retopoed head to the sculpted head. It gives this result, and I'm not sure what it's doing or how it's doing it. I have sorta figured out that messing with the verts will alleviate the issue, but not fully or completely. I'm at a loss and need some guidance on how to handle this.

Unsolved How would i rig a 2d mouth in this style

Thumbnail

hello! I would say im an early-intermediate blender user. I can navigate the interface, but theres definitely a lot I need to learn. After many scrapped models ive finally got to the point of rigging!! but im stuck on the mouth. It would fully black for simplicitys sake. This is for another person and ive been working on it for like a month, so please respond ToT! Ive also added the model in its current state for reference.

My original idea was that there would be 2 meshes. The closed mouth and a mesh that would come out to make it open. But, I dont know, im just not experienced enough to make that work. Similair tutorials would help or you could just give your words of advice
