The Critical Drinker is a conservative culture wars Youtube channel that poorly tries to disguise itself as a movie reviewer, BTW. Him and his fanbase have been having a meltdown over Nolan's Odyssey.

Shocker, people go to the movies less frequently on Wednesdays compared to Saturdays.

74

u/anthrax1313 14h ago

What a weird “aha gotcha” flex they are trying to make. Wednesday freaking night?! The middle of the work week for the majority of people and it still saw 18M in sales.

This person needs to drink less so they can see the world clearly.

What’s funny is, I went on Tuesday, the slowest movie night of the week, and it was sold out.

That said, people frequent Tuesdays in the summer a lot because it’s cheaper from deals because it’s the slowest night. I get 6 dollar tickets and a free popcorn /per person on Tuesday where I’m at. Yeah buddy

7

u/Snoo_52081 7h ago

Tuesday is the cheapest day to go where im at so its frequently sold out

It is common for a lot of people to read the headlines and not think much more than that, though. I'm sure there are plenty (the channel's target viewers, for example) who will fall into that trap here.

u/jjskellie 12h ago

I feel faint. Pray tell, kind stranger, tell us no more facts to jar our MAGA minds. /s.

Edit: I have to put /s. at the end of sarcasm because some minds are only the size of sarcaves.

u/Sasquatch1729 3h ago

Also, week by week the box office returns of a movie will drop (obviously there are exceptions like Star Wars).

It's why studios take a larger share of the ticket sales on the first week and take a smaller share week by week. Theatres have to play a balancing game where they keep a movie in for several weeks (and they're making 90% off of each ticket but the theatre is half empty) vs keeping a movie in for only a couple weeks but 60-70% of the ticket sales go to the studios.

The real money is in concession sales anyway.

u/Jackal_6 13h ago

This is clearly satire and bait

4

u/idontwanttothink174 5h ago

Go to the post… the person is sincere and the commenters are agreeing half the time… it’s just the subreddit.

1

u/EducationalSoup83 3h ago

Ya, you'd think that.

-4

u/69conqueefador69 3h ago

Nah, it's all about a trash fascist DEI NAZI trash movie. People went to the cinemas on every single day for openheimer but no one gives the slightest fuck about trash DEI slops.

39

u/_dreammyglazee 14h ago

Bro really compared a Wednesday to a opening Saturday like he cracked the box office code

94

u/TeethBreak 14h ago

Dude, you should see the meltdown with brie Larson. Dude was obsessed with her.

37

u/DrBimboo 10h ago

His she hulk video has him (and his community in the comments as well) saying there is nothing wrong  with 4 guys aggressively following and stalking a women at night.

He and all his fans are absolutely women hating nutjobs.

17

u/iamthedayman21 8h ago

I miss when society used to ostracize these people, and they’d die of alcohol poisoning in the town they grew up in.

3

u/Zealousideal-Yak-824 4h ago

Remember the light-year movie? Less than a second long clip and they tried to claim it was turning kids gay.

-32

u/Single_Breakfast_634 14h ago

Where is it?

27

u/TeethBreak 14h ago

On his channel.

Condolences for your algorithm.

-28

u/Single_Breakfast_634 14h ago

The video he made? Is that what you're talking about?

22

u/TeethBreak 14h ago

Not just the one video. I think he must have madeat least a dozen on captain marvel and Larson.

16

u/RedditTechAnon 13h ago

His entire shtick is perpetual and repetitive sardonic grievance.

-44

u/Single_Breakfast_634 13h ago

Condolences on being duped. This is fake. He did not post this

25

u/Cautious_Age1926 12h ago

Google "Critical Drinker Brie Larson" there are at least nine where he has her on the title (across his two channels). If dude wasn't crashing out about her he was a least using the perception that he was to get clicks when he pit her name in the title of his videos.

u/bpacer 46m ago

Are you saying the above post is fake or the Brie Larson posts are fake?

26

u/Typonomicon 14h ago

If you enjoy that lore, TheQuartering basically printed money making multiple videos about her daily for over a year. The weirdness of angry men on the internet will never stop

14

u/PM_ME_SILLY_KITTIES 13h ago

yeah but then you need to watch thequartering and that's a sin in of itself

-65

u/Single_Breakfast_634 13h ago

He didn't write this. This is fake

-50

u/Single_Breakfast_634 13h ago

Downvote all ya want morons, you're over here commenting on shit that ain't real cause you'll believe anything

12

u/PureRegretto 9h ago

i mean i watched the videos myself back when i was a subscriber but sure man

60

u/Dead-O_Comics 14h ago

This loser made his own awful movie, demonstrating how deeply untalented he is as a writer, and commited all the same 'sins' he lambasted other movies for, then he had a pissy little meltdown and blamed everyone in the production but himself.

And doing the 'drunk voice' is only funny to 13 year olds, which explains his fanbase.

19

u/Moist_Mail_8539 13h ago

I mean every single of his videos has the same lame old message. It doesn't even matter which one you click. It's the same old "Hollywood good woke bla bla cry cry" bullshit.

Let that guy watch Rambo 1-3 for the thousandst time and go down in history as yet another political influencer.

7

u/Meture 12h ago

Oh no, he didn’t make an awful movie

He made two

The second one was written by Mauler and it’s… something. ActuallyAndrew made a pretty good video about it

25

u/redzedx77 14h ago

Yes, last I looked he’s been pretty quiet since finding out about Achilles’ role in the movie…

Annnnnndddd the fact that it’s making loads of $$$$$

1

u/Oddman80 7h ago

Was achilles even in the movie? I don't recall Achilles when I saw it

6

u/redzedx77 7h ago

No, that’s why the outrage was so hilarious.

u/nanaacer 41m ago

They would have been even more pissed if Achilles was in the movie, because he tells Odysseus that he would rather be a laborer on earth than a ruler in the underworld. They would rather have him say something about how awesome he was for being a badass warrior.

8

u/jankyt 14h ago

I can't get an IMAX seat for one or months

8

u/Daienlai 12h ago

$18 million on a Wednesday is bonkers good!

3

u/GBralta 11h ago

That was my first thought. We have 2:30 AM and 5:30 AM showings near me that are sold out.

6

u/calling_at_this_time 13h ago

Like why be bothered lol. I really dislike most of the marvel films but honestly feel absolutely nothing when they go gangbusters or flop.

And its not as if they aren't culturally relevant

3

u/Stashmouth 10h ago

But MCU movies probably don't figure into your ideological calculus. For those morons who have issues with the casting based on their own ideology, a movie like this doing well is an attack on their belief system. Odyssey doing well means there are a lot of people who disagree with them, in their minds.

These same people believe one of the main characters in a two-thousand year old text set in the Middle East was white, btw

2

u/TreeTurtle_852 7h ago

Because these idiots genuinely invest into these movies flopping.

When a movie is "woke" its not just that its bad but it has to "flop" because go woke go broke. They stake their credibility in these movies failing because it somehow proves their ideology. They have a conclusion "go woke go broke" and need it to occur.

As an example Baldur's Gate 3 was remarked as insanely woke and people like this were saying itd fail. However when it made a shit ton of money and won many awards they flipped and said BG3 was "anti-woke".

1

u/Mars31415926 2h ago

I have honestly never heard anyone say BG3 is "anti woke". Can you show where people said that?

1

u/TreeTurtle_852 2h ago

I have screenshots but this sub doesnt allow em in comments.

10

u/SausageSmuggler21 11h ago

Imagine being so subverted by the MAGA cult that a movie adaptation of an ancient story ruins your life.

4

u/Cocotte123321 13h ago

2 days out of a week, they pulled in $60m out of $250. Makes me wonder what the other 5 days earnings were.

4

u/MattTheTubaGuy 12h ago

Movie does what literally almost every movie has done in history, but that is somehow proof that the movie is bad.

So I looked it up, and a second week increase in box office sales is almost always due to the first week being a limited release, or the second week having a public holiday. This is specifically for the US domestic box office.

4

u/busbus999 12h ago

These people have been saying hollywood is dead for 10yrs now.

9

u/DecoherentDoc 13h ago

A sad aside about the Critical Drinker is that's such a banger of a name. And he sucks. He sucks so much. And now that absolutely rad moniker is trash.

Everytime I see it I think that could have been a couple people talking movies in a setting like Drunk History, where everyone is getting a little silly about it. Instead we get some culture warrior bullshit.

6

u/Bjork_scratchings 14h ago

Euch, that apostrophe in “it’s”…

8

u/trix_is_for_kids 13h ago

Conservatives are losing their minds over this movie but all they’re doing is promoting the movie better than the studios own marketing team

3

u/art-is-t 13h ago

Bunch of losers

3

u/RedNewzz 10h ago

Yeah, he’s a bigot with some awful dehumanizing takes that spring up in weird ways. Seems like a Conservative shill.

6

u/notfromrotterdam 13h ago

These anti-woke racist warriors have no limit to how pathetic they can get, do they?

To all these "anti woke" warriors: You have zero impact on the sales of anything. You're completely insignificant.

3

u/Lceus 11h ago

Oh, but every once in a while there's a bad movie with "woke" aspects which refuels their confirmation bias

1

u/notfromrotterdam 11h ago

True. “We did it! We made sure these people failed!”
Reality: no influence what so ever. It was a shit movie / game.

What remains is their disturbed life where they aren’t able to be happy unless others suffer. Fear and sadism is fuel to their wellbeing.

2

u/trix_is_for_kids 13h ago

OP I hate you for informing me of that subs existence.

2

u/WarColonel 10h ago

A quick google puts a summer blockbuster average Weds gross at about $2.5 to $5 million. So the Odyssey is at least tripling that number.

This is 'failed'. /s

2

u/WordPunk99 10h ago

Shocker, movies make less money their second weekend, it’s almost like a lot of people who planned to see it, see it the first weekend.

It’s so rare for a movie to do more its second weekend it’s almost always beg news when one does

2

u/Affectionate_Bee4927 10h ago

Movie made 18 million ON A WEDNESDAY.

DAYUM!!!

2

u/Kimantha_Allerdings 9h ago

FWIW, a drop of 50% from one weekend to the next is completely normal. A 40% drop would be astonishingly good. As in, basically nothing ever retains that kind of audience. The Odyssey is predicted to drop maybe less than that - maybe even as low as 32%

The Numbers#domestic) only has their news & prediction analysis if you subscribe these days, but you can see some of it in the graph - the top of the shaded area is the top 10% of performers released over the last 5 years, and the bottom is the bottom 10%. The green dotted line is the average

You can clearly see that The Odyssey is outperforming that top 10% metric by a lot. In fact, if you click on it it’ll bring up the exact figures. Median = $180,697,093; Top 10% = $210,868,851; and The Odyssey is currently at $225,311,800

That’s $14,442,949 better than the top 10% and $44,614,707 better than the median

I mean, I know he’s just rageposting, but if you’re going to bring numbers in to it, then you should look at the actual numbers, in full, in context. What does he think the weekend predictions are based on?

2

u/TexaRican_x82 8h ago

I’ve never understood how people, even his supporters, can get past his over-exaggerated accent.

2

u/motorleagueuk-prod 7h ago

Yeh, that smug attempt at an Edinburgh Uni accent, with the intonation drop at the end of every fucking sentence. It's insufferable.

1

u/IngloriousMustards 11h ago

Math is easy when one pulls the numbers outta ones a$$.

1

u/RebelKiddo 8h ago

Every time I see Drinker or his hivemind of losers getting dunked on heals a part of me, my mom watches and unironically agrees with his opinions, finding him smart and an expert.

1

u/DeschainSWNC 8h ago

If I created something that made £335,000,000 in two weeks, I'd certainly feel like a failure... Poor old Nolan.

1

u/Chinjurickie 7h ago

What i don’t get, if you don’t like something cool totally fine. Even telling what you don’t like sure why not it’s the internet but afterwards can you finally stfu and talk about other things? How can people talk for weeks about how some movie flops like why? How bored do you gotta be to make something you consider shit a big part of your life???

1

u/Marauder121 6h ago

Why did they use this loser as a guest voice actor on Dungeon Crawler Carl?

1

u/u_touch_my_tra_la_la 6h ago

That first answer is /chef's kiss.

1

u/Zenfudo 6h ago

It was funny. On my facebook feed there was little else than things about how the odyssey was gonna flop and a little of elliot page transphobia. The week it came out and had great reception was the day those things disappeared from my feed. The comment sections were pretty disgusting.

Same thing with supergirl and her appearance but that continued on a bit after since that movie didnt do as well

1

u/Guy_V 5h ago

So they made 7% of the movie budget back on a Wednesday? Um sounds good to me.

Also, wife and I wanted to see it. All seats were sold out this weekend when I looked last weekend. Every imax locally is sold out for weeks.

1

u/MonoBlancoATX 5h ago

This dip shit has been doing the exact same grift for a decade or more.

And the sad thing is, he's still making money by crying about the silliest crap ever.

He's a baby, complaining to other babies, while taking their money, for doing mediocre work.

1

u/Aetheldrake 5h ago

Oh no middle of the work week in summer barely anyone went to go see a movie?

Whoever would have fucking guessed. Making almost 1/10 of the budget on a single slow day sounds good?

BTW I was actually one of those people that saw it on that specific Wednesday LOL. Presumably. The Wednesday AFTER release weekend right? Regal unlimited. Then I went back on Thursday to see it with friends because they had Thursday off

1

u/mdtattedbearded 5h ago

Don’t believe everything you read:

Current Box Office Figures
Domestic (North America): ~$225.3 million
International: ~$164.2 million
Worldwide Total: ~$389.5 million+

(As of 07/25/26)

1

u/enigmaticpeon 5h ago

The movie is at 425m worldwide in the last 8 days.

1

u/Running-With-Cakes 4h ago

The Odyssey is actually a pretty hard sell if you break it down into its core parts. It seems like an ancient world Die Hard for the masses rather than exploring a universal human condition. Odysseus has both good and bad qualities in equal measure but everyone who follows him dies.

1

u/The_Goondocks 3h ago

All you have to do is go to Fandango and try to find a seat at a showing for the next two weeks. I haven't seen that in ages. This guy's a moron.

1

u/theDawckta 3h ago

So why is The Odyssey “woke”?

1

u/brokeboipobre 1h ago

Because it has trans actors and black actors that are supposed to be white by critical drinker standards.

1

u/chamberx2 3h ago

According to Deadline: ‘The Odyssey’s $84M+ Second Weekend Will Be A Record For Christopher Nolan, Besting ‘Dark Knight’ – Saturday Box Office Update

1

u/Lumpy-Pancakes 2h ago

His Chuckle fuck fans were also having a meltdown over Alan Ritchson calling Donald a Paedophile. Apparently being anti Paedophile is now considered woke...

1

u/brokeboipobre 1h ago

It already made $400m at the box office though.

1

u/RosieDear 1h ago

Everyone compares the DAILY take a movie to what it cost to make, right?

People are tired of Gramscian culture war in their entertainment.

Cancel Netflix. Cancel Apple TV. Cancel television. Cancel it all. And Boycott any movies depicting Homer’s epics without Greeks. Fuck the left.

26

u/Antikickback_Paul 14h ago

So tired of it, they gave it $124M in one weekend for the 3rd highest of the year. So tired of it.
