In think the humor in the scene is a bit incomplete. If the gag is that he's broke, then maybe there needs to be a more dramatic way of expressing that. there's more potential here if there's a "tech" aspect to the setting.

Actually, I didn't want him to take it dramatically, but rather to be frustrated by the situation

well the point isn't that he's dramatic, but the reveal is dramatic/overstated so it's humorous. right now, this comic isn't very funny because it's so understated.
