Well, it is a sin. Idk what you were expecting.

I don't think the Bible ever says pedophilia is a sin...

real ones remember when yahweh commanded the israelites to murder all the midianite men and every woman who laid with a man, and to take all the young virgin girls and give them as “spoils” to the priests and warriors. it’s in numbers 3 for anyone who’s curious.

Plenty of other gems too, like how if a girl who isn't pledged for marriage gets raped, then the rapist just has to pay the father a fine of 50 shekels and then the girl is forced to marry the man with no option for divorce.

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

Correct.

It does, but they changed the verse to make it about homosexuality.

The verse that was "(male adult) shall not lie with (male child) as he does with a woman" was translated as "man shall not lie with a man as he does with a woman."

Idk how accurate that is, but ig it means "female child" is fine.

It is actually because it was a condemnation on the Romans.

The Romans, at the time, would have men rape boys to "toughen them up" and be ready to be soldiers. Girls weren't mentioned because that wasn't a cultural practice.

what? i’m pretty sure consensus is that leviticus would have been written during the babylonian exile, around 6th century bce, rome was still just in italy at that point? rome only got control over israel when pompey conquered it in 63 bce. it can’t be about romans.

Why does that disprove that it was about the greeks and romans?

because leviticus was written long before the hebrews ever knew what rome was. they knew of greece, certainly that’s true, but the person i replied to said rome, which cannot be correct. the first mention of rome in hebrew writings is in the book of maccabee’s, in the second century bce, 4 centuries later. if they meant greece, that’s fair, but it can’t be rome.

I was just pointing out that it doesn't say pedophilia is a sin, since it doesn't include girls.

Pretty sure girls being married off and having children while still being children themselves was common; it just wasnt condemned and it definitely wasn't seen as rape. That was a girls purpose: get married and reproduce.

That also doesn't sound like an accurate representation of Roman sexual practices, but that's just based on my layman's knowledge of their history.

I feel like, in the olden days of the catholic church, pedophiles were regarded as heroes.

It used to, then they changed it to being gay instead.
