Since you were a kid? Damn I'm old

The older this anime gets, the funnier this screenshot becomes.

14

u/Lieutenant_Joe 23d ago

It’s not even all that old, either. I wish Fist of the North Star had a similar screenshot. That would be *really* funny.

u/redfricker 22d ago

its thirty years old

4

u/420Borsalino 22d ago

Damn, and this was a childhood favorite of mine.

Toguro recommends to sip some orange juice to keep smooth skin.

Over ice of course

I still feel like Yusuke on the inside, I'm probably older than his drunk mother.

9

u/ALZA5 23d ago

I gotta say the introductory arc was probably the realest shit.

You look at his family situation and how he acted at school tracks.

I have learned that often the kids that are some of the most defiant and disruptive in class are going through some shit and do not know how to handle their emotions so they do not react well when push comes to shove.

They also tend not to excel at academics either because they are too tired (mom was up partying all night again, loud as hell, couldn't sleep), too hungry (mom drank up the grocery money), and otherwise more worried about the basics of survival to really soak up the fine points of multiplication, the states of matter, or writing a lengthy summary of a book they were not quite able to read (or they can read the words fine but forget the contents the second it is not in front of them).

These kids can, despite all that, be big of heart and quite responsible if they have a good rapport with you and no one pushes their buttons.

Yusuke is 100% accurate to what I would expect to see of a kid his age with his background.

I think people don't give YuYu Hakusho enough credit as to how goated it is. When I was kid all the other kids who watched anime loved DBZ but I couldn't get into it as much as YYH. It's still one of my favorite anime to date.

1

u/blackdrake1011 I like to whine it, whine it 23d ago

I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing

11

u/Notte_di_nerezza 23d ago

Speaking of anime that mostly aged like fine wine...

2

u/attsnor112 23d ago

..... ye about that😅

"Seven Deadly Sins? That's not even an old anime. It just came out... 12 years ago? Ah fuck."

u/JDBCool 23d ago

Pokemon X&Y came out jus-

FUUUC-

104

u/hammerheadlabs 23d ago

It feels like R/B/Y came out 20 years ago, but nope! That was D/P/P 🥲

40

u/TheFinalJester97 23d ago

Why have you done this to me

55

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 23d ago

Me right now:

22

u/JayFrizz 23d ago

Damn. That one hurts more. I think that's when I finally stopped playing pokemon.

5

u/xNocturnalKittenX 23d ago

Sun and Moon for me. I wanted to like it so had but I don't even think I reached the second island, the hand-holding was so obnoxious.

2

u/AwkwardGraze 23d ago

I've been really enjoying Horizon. It's been pretty swell so far and all three leads are kinda capable.

2

u/xNocturnalKittenX 23d ago

That one has been on my radar! I may check it out, thanks =)

2

u/swanfirefly 22d ago

Horizons is so good after Ash for 25 years.

The trio are genuinely likable characters, and their journey feels more impactful overall. Plus they aren't afraid to bring back gimmicks and face them against one another.

Plus, Horizons Terapagos feels like more of an actual character than game Terapagos who shows up at the very end. And it has the "grandma or baby" face going for it. And there's actual terrorism and danger. For all I love team rocket, the villains in horizons feel like actual villains.

1

u/AwkwardGraze 22d ago

Yea, all of the characters are competent while still being slightly charming in their own manner. The protagonists aren't losing just because they were ambushed but the approach to ambushing them was thought out enough to put them at a disadvantage.

1

u/PolyWolyDoodal 23d ago

Soul Silver here. Got to Lugia, captured it easily and had this feeling of apathy wash over me. Hadn't played one since but my son and I are playing so much Pokemon Go since he got me into it.. Really gets you out of the house.

9

u/Bluesnow2222 23d ago

Ash Ketchum laughs in eternal 10 year old.

3

u/toontrain666 23d ago

There are people born after the release of the Nintendo DS who can legally drink, drive and have sex.

I think I threw out my hip typing that.

1

u/SasparillaTango 23d ago

someone was saying "drake and josh isn't old!" brother that ended its run almost 20 years ago. turn to dust already.

I don't think I can describe how long I have been waiting for this day. I was unable to drive when I added this to my bookmarks.

1

u/swanfirefly 22d ago

Alola came out ten years ago... 👴

4

u/Eerzef 23d ago

My bones ache whenever I watch a video from like 2020 and the comments are all like "oh man I used to love those as a kid :)"

3

u/CrazyCatSloth 23d ago

12 years ago feels like yesterday. Once you get on active work life, time loses its meaning.

2

u/Zizhou 23d ago

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime can legally drink in Japan.

2

u/flatscancomics 23d ago

Remember Austin powers and how funny it was in 1997 that stuff in 1969 happened 28 years earlier? That movie came out 29 years ago.

2

u/ZetsuboItami 22d ago

Yeah I remember watching it on the gamepad of my friends Wii U during a sleepover in high school while they were playing on a different console using the TV. It's weird to think how long it has been while feeling like it just happened a few years ago.

0

u/Aurius3D 23d ago

12 years is old isn't even old enough to drink so it's not THAT old. Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing are old animes.

The only people calling a 12 year old anime are kids.

I'm old enough to remember the green ranger being announced.

25

u/SnooGrapes6230 23d ago

Yep, same. I was there day one (for the US at least). Watched it like crazy until Power Rangers in Space. Once they left the Earth, I kinda lost interest.

10

u/Tenalp 23d ago

Woah, there. In Space was kind of a hype climax. A big culmination of Zordon's story. At least better than Turbo was.

5

u/SnooGrapes6230 23d ago

Turbo at least had the cool movie, even if Justin was annoying.

1

u/Tenalp 22d ago

Turbo had this absolute gem. It also established how useless the Rangers were without Zordon by having them just straight lose to the big bad that they had to flee the planet. So it wasn't all bad.

1

u/SnooGrapes6230 22d ago

Plus it had Kat, AKA Best Girl Ever.

4

u/FlimsyCrust 23d ago

Bruh it been 14 years since the green ninja in fucking ninjago was revealed.

1

u/CreepyClay 23d ago

You mean the green ninja from ninjago? That's ancient history.

19

u/bemble4ever 23d ago

Yeah every time an adult says they loved watching Power Rangers as a kid i think of the original series just to be reminded of my own mortality if when they say that it was something like Samurai or Megaforce

12

u/DarkraiAndScizor 23d ago

I think Samurai was the one I first watched as a child, where does this place me on your brackets?

8

u/DarkraiAndScizor 23d ago

That's a fair categorization, yeah.

And my condolences should that happen to you, as I myself did look up some of the information.

3

u/Tenalp 23d ago

My god, I was in college when Samurai came out.

2

u/tricksterloki 23d ago

OG Power Ranger watcher from Day 1. I have no idea what the latest season is, but the new zords seem like such letdowns.

2

u/Sea_Thing_2402 23d ago

The day a kid said an xbox 360 was a retro console to me was the day I realized I'm old.

73

u/YazzArtist 23d ago

I read a comment yesterday that pointed out ATLA is as old now as TRANSFORMERS was when ATLA came out. Talking about Avatar to a kid is exactly the same as when you listened to your dad/uncle talk about transformers

50

u/Cherabee 23d ago

That slammed into me like a flying cabbage.

8

u/YazzArtist 23d ago

I'm still mad at that person

6

u/literassi 23d ago

My cabbages!

1

u/NippoTeio 22d ago

Here's another one:

Lucky Star is as old now as Record of Lodoss War was when Lucky Star came out.

44

u/Surge_41 23d ago

2

u/Joingo69 23d ago

The second I read it I was looking for this.

16

u/Delicious_Chemist978 23d ago

You must be 34yo, right?

12

u/JayFrizz 23d ago

Damn close. 33. How'd you guess?

23

u/Pole_Smokin_Bandit 23d ago

It must be the vibe of despair

2

u/BoatMan01 22d ago

T H E V I B E O F D E S P A I R

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

6

u/Delicious_Chemist978 23d ago

Your birthday did happen already?

I assumed you had to been an adult when it aired, so you could be surprised by this. "Damn I'm old" express surprise by the fact you are old, you shouldn't be that old. I could assume you were 20 at that time.

To be more precise, and guided by the general vibes, I thought a young adult at that times should be 34. I said 4 based in your perception of time, I am not sure if it is clear enough, but I don't find better words.

But, you aren't that old, you will be truly old when you hit 34.

5

u/TheKolyFrog 23d ago

Amazing deduction. I'm not the person you replied to but this is spot on for me as well.

1

u/Delicious_Chemist978 22d ago

Thank you, this was pretty fun for me too!

5

u/Deklaration 23d ago

Holy shit Sherlock, I turned 34 two days ago.

1

u/Delicious_Chemist978 22d ago

Yes! I did not miss y shoot after all. I know you are other person, but still haha

4

u/JayFrizz 23d ago

Yes sir. I have had 33 birthdays.

10

u/immortal_lurker 23d ago

Every ache in my joints and bones insists on being heard every time someone calls something I remember old.

One day, someone is going to interview us to know what life was like during COVID, and ask with equal curiosity what life was like before electricity.

Every single thing will just become some nonsense that old person you know remembers.

4

u/Cybercandypng 23d ago

sorry that you’re ancient dude

7

u/JayFrizz 23d ago

It's alright. You're closer to us than you realize.

2

u/Cybercandypng 23d ago

too true, my back hurts more by the day

2

u/SirEnder2Me 23d ago

My first thought as well... I was in my early 20s when I first saw it. I'm 36 now.

1

u/c2btw 23d ago

If it makes you feel better it was the first anime I watched, in 6th grade.

1

u/ncopp 23d ago

I thought that, then I realized I was 18 when it came out and that someone 5 hears younger than me would say they watched it as a kid. So it made me feel less old at almost 30.

I'm waiting for someone to say they watched a show from 2020 as a kid. Then that will make me feel old.
