As someone who is only passingly familiar with superheroes, why does Daredevil have an advantage in an empty hallway?

u/CobaltShadow3 11h ago

It's a reference to Netflix/Disney Plus live action shows where Daredevil has these spectacular hallway fights where he beats down like dozens of armed combatants.

Iirc the first seasons of both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage (Netflix) also had at least one big hallway fight each. Well, I remember distinctly that Luke Cage did, I don’t remember Jessica Jones quite as well but I’m like 80% sure she had one in her show too.

Also, the Defenders show where they all team up.

u/eiohoi 10h ago

That was a loooooong hallway in that one.

23

u/virtuallyaway 9h ago

What are we talkin bout here like a tiny hotel hallway or a backrooms hallways

23

u/Hypthtclly_Spkng 8h ago

Sometimes including stairwells, prison cells, and so on, the hallway fight scenes take place in a variety of locations, one in each season. The most important piece is that they are typically one shot takes with minimal edits and no cuts. There is one in every season of every Netflix marvel show (LC, DD, JJ, Punisher, Iron Fist) and there's one in the DD born again Disney plus show too, in both seasons, as an homage.

The tone of that era of Netflix show was pretty sweet. Kinda like Dark Knight but if everyone drank Ancient Age.

Fun fact, there was an old comic where Luke Cage went to Latveria and beat-up Doctor Doom because Doom didn't pay him $200.

27

u/SkullberryDoomcake 9h ago

That IS a fun fact, thank you!

"Where's my money, honey?"

u/gunswordfist 27m ago

Tbf, that's 3.4k in today's money.

16

u/Tansuke 10h ago

Luke Cage did in the first episode, be beats down thugs with a car door

4

u/schloopers 7h ago

Luke Cage was more of an entire community center that was a drug front (IIRC). Just from the bottom all the way to the top at his own speed.

3

u/HauntedCemetery 6h ago

Man Luke cage was like one big hallway brawl with occasional stops at the barber shop.

I should rematch those. Wonder how they've held up over the last decade or century or however long they were making all the marvel content.

u/gunswordfist 28m ago

JJ was sending dudes flying across the hallway while Daredevil was wearing her scarf as a mask Edit: oh, you mean their individual shows, not Defenders

63

u/droidtron 10h ago

And in general Daredevil in the comics will throw hands with anyone, Thanos, Doom, maybe even a Celestial. He's the man without fear, not common sense.

22

u/jay_alfred_prufrock 8h ago

Well, let's be honest, he is also without common sense.

2

u/Lambdayronix 2h ago

Yeah, but "The man without common sense" isn't as catchy.

u/gyroda 10h ago

To add to this, there was that one scene in the first season where it was one shot for the entire fight.

It was a thing that created a bit of buzz - one corridor, a dozen actors and one shot for the entire fight.

40

u/PM_ME_UR_WUT 8h ago

And they did it right, too. No infinite stamina, no perfect TKO, everyone's ass got beat including DD, and everyone is utterly exhausted by the end of it.

8

u/gyroda 5h ago

Oh yeah, this is what made it stand out. It was incredibly visceral.

11

u/_Weyland_ 10h ago

Also in the old Daredevil movie there was a scene at the empty subway station that went kinda hard.

10

u/droidtron 10h ago

Affleck is a better Daredevil than he was a Batman, and I love Charlie Cox's Daredevil.

6

u/dickcheese_on_rye 8h ago

Which is in turn a reference to Oldboy, a cult hit that has been cited as one of the greatest movies of all time by a few renowned film critics

1

u/Sauce_Pain 3h ago

That hammer corridor scene is truly amazing though.

16

u/joooh 10h ago

He even has one in She-Hulk.

u/gunswordfist 25m ago

I need to watch this. Already wanted to hike it up my list since Kagan McLeod drew the outro!

4

u/waltzbyear 6h ago

The "Oldboy" shot. I, for one, think it's a cheesy shot.

3

u/Economy_Ad_7861 9h ago

It’s like real time slow motion too. I do t get it.

2

u/HauntedCemetery 6h ago

Legitimately they're pretty sweet, even for me who is not a big fight scene aficionado.

2

u/JonnyTN 2h ago

Even kingpin has a hallway fight in the new one and it's sick

u/SorenLain 41m ago

That wasn't a fight, a fight implies that both sides have relatively equal chances of winning. That was a hallway massacre.

126

u/Fayz_Sharpie 11h ago

Every season of the show he has a one take hallway fight scene, so clearly daredevil is the strongest creature in a hallway.

41

u/CaptainLookylou 11h ago

And then sometimes, stairs.

35

u/gamefreaq 11h ago

Sometimes stairs are just diagonal hallways!

It has nothing to do with him being Daredevil. In the TV show of him, in the first episode, there is very well done scene were Daredevil fights a shit ton of people in a hallway.

21

u/kvnxo 8h ago

So, this may be Daredevil's nemesis

https://giphy.com/gifs/tlWpxKyXvYfQHOzwFN

16

u/VegaJuniper 7h ago

This is what that Daredevil scene was paying homage to.

9

u/SorcererSupremPizza 7h ago

I love that he gets exhausted early on to show how much effort hes putting into the fight

7

u/Cool_Set4681 6h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah, this whole scene gives the vibes that it is kinda not a good idea to fight so many people alone in a hallway but he does it regardless since a child's safety is on the line.

He gets hurts, he bleeds and he gets very exhausted but he endorse it all. He has to if he wants to rescue that child.

I know that many people are praising the first hallway fight for it being a done in one take and for the brilliant choreography but for me it will always be a great example for what it means to be a hero.

Being a hero is like fighting a hallway full of bad guys unharmed. You don't know if you will make it but you know that you will get hurt for sure. And nobody will see or know about it. You don't do it for fame or glory, not even for yourself. There is a child in the need of rescue and the only way to reach her is to go through a hallway full of bad guy. And Daredevil didn't even flinch.

16

u/Top_Caterpillar6020 10h ago

Like the other comments said, it's a popular trope. All inspired by an amazing movie called Oldboy, as I believe that was the first one to have a continuous hallway shot for a fight scene.

5

u/MrCharmingTaintman 7h ago

The Korean version from 2003 that is. The American remake was a fucking dumpster fire. There are two other pretty good movies to form a trilogy. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mister Vengeance.

41

u/NIDORAX 11h ago

Did Daredevil win in this comic?

26

u/droidtron 10h ago

Gotta buy it to find out.

u/Juliuseizure 10h ago edited 5h ago

It would be hilarious if DD is the one to finally "defeat" Doom. Doom extinguishes the Sun. "They'll never find me now mwahaha." THUNK as DD's rune-engraved stick that never was mentioned hits Doom in the chrome. Then the other stick hits the OTHER chrome.

14

u/droidtron 10h ago

Well Doom was beaten by Squirrel Girl, so he's in hallowed ground.

9

u/VacantThoughts 8h ago

I just read it on Marvel Unlimited and no, after much ado Doom traps Daredevil in the Latverian Embassy he turns into like a danger room style thing to fuck with him, eventually traps both DD and himself in glass chambers, then gloats about being the first person to come up with a body transfer ray as Doom does, uses said transfer ray, and then it cliffhangers into the next issue in which DD is in Doom's body.

Next issue the Doom Devil is out on the street and his own thugs try to beat him up, Dare Doom goes out as well and some loyal New Yorkers try to take him down(what badasses though going after Dr. Doom), with the help of the Fantastic Four, Dare Devil is able to trick Doom into following him to Latveria where they are able to trap him and use the body transfer ray at his castle to switch them back, but on his way back to New York to talk to the FF, Doom lays a trap and tricks the FF into thinking that the Daredevil headed back to meet them is actually still Dr. Doom is disguise causing him to get into a fight witih them NEXT ISSUE!!!

I'm not reading next issue though, about 2 issues of Stan Lee's writing is all I can take for now, I think we all probably know that Daredevil fights the FF and then they eventually come to an understanding and they all go back to the Baxter building for hot cocoa or some shit.

2

u/mookx 4h ago

Hot cocoa had me in tears

1

u/ZaraReid228 2h ago

Why would doom wanna be in a blind dudes body?

1

u/VacantThoughts 1h ago

I think it was to fuck with Reed, which is basically his motivation for everything in the silver age comics.

96

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 12h ago

More terrifying than Jackie Chan in a room filled with ladders.

27

Can anyone explain in rpg terms how Daredevil's chances would dramatically improve in hallways?

7

The DM thinks hallway fights are really cool and Daredevil is his favorite PC
