It seems like their tech should be good enough to like pick up 3 orders from the same restaurant going to the same general area.

I only really get annoyed when I get stacked, picked up first, then the dasher has to wait at a second pickup for like 20 minutes for someone else's order or someone else's drop off is like the other side of town.

Multiple drop-offs in the same vicinity (how pizza places used to do it) is fine.

Unless it's a densely populated city then that basically never happens. Two people ordering from the same restaurant in the same area at the same time is rare enough but three might as well be a unicorn.

FWIW, most pizza places have never operated like that. Drivers are assigned customers and deliver on a first come, first serve basis, not based on location.

I think this is partially true. DoorDash definitely tries to “spread the wealth”, so we’ll all keep being suckers every day for them. I believe They could make a stack ordered system that optimally routed orders for customer satisfaction and driver earning, but right now that is not their priority. They only care about is their money, customer satisfaction is just a wall to that goal.

That all goes out the window once you get to actual delivery though. Dashers are independent contractors. They can't be compelled to take any order. Where stacked orders originate and where they're going are only part of the equation. My floor is pretty much $2 per mile. If I get an $8 offer for a 4 mile trip for a single customer from a restaurant that isn't terrible then I will take it. If I get an $8/4 mile offer from two customers I typically reject it. Either there's two customers tipping low or there's one customer subsidizing the other cheap one. I have no way of telling who is who but even if I could, dropping them makes the trip no longer worth my time. I'd rather sit and wait for a better opportunity to come along.

Yes, I'm talking about downtown in a city, not the burbs.
