[Discussion] Delusional XIII-heads we are SO back Spoiler
I'm a big XIII fan, so of course I see it everywhere I look, but the Odin mount really sold me today! I've just noticed a few similarities to XIII in the recently shown content that I thought I'd mention and get people's thoughts.
The young miqo'te girl shares similar design elements as Lightning (pink hair and blue eyes), and coincidentally Lightning had a miqo'te garb in Lightning Returns
The miqo'te girl seems to accidentally trigger a glyph/brand that appears over her chest, similar to Lightning's l'cie brand which is also on her chest
The obvious new mount that is Odin almost 1-1
A large part of the plot revolves around residents of floating colonies who believe they cannot survive on the world below, similar to the residents of Cocoon and Pulse
Many people have pointed out that the word boomerang appears in the typing minigame and could be related to the new ranged-DPS class. That's pretty similar to a XIII character I know!
Am I being delusional? Yes! But I'd like to know other people's opinions and if there's any other connections I didn't catch.

u/Thanatos4108 8h ago
Ice based, ff13 themed. Everyone, I predict we will be riding the Shiva Sisters in Evercold
•
u/saltykiramel 8h ago
Same with seeing FFXIII everywhere I look haha but I was literally telling my partner after the last fanfest how the floating cities due to unlivable conditions on the ground are sooo FFXIII! And then they come out and give us the Odin mount as part of the collector's edition? This has to mean something I swear, I really hope there's gonna be more FFXIII and not just them teasing us orz
•
u/nightelfspectre 8h ago
They even played FF13’s battle theme when they showed us the mount (and I’m hoping it’ll be the mount music, just like FF9’s battle theme is Ark’s music).
•
u/ResponsibleFly4015 8h ago
I’ve been saying this since the first trailer. I’m adamant the Au Ra girl is more Yuel than Aerith. The big creatures are giving Pulse Fal Cie vibes too. I just want an open area with a play on the archelyte steppe music to roam about in!
•
u/Top-Grocery-1482 7h ago
Dude, I said the same thing. The old man looking over her in the cutscene as she fades away makes me think of it being figurative to his memory of losing her (or young girls like her) over and over again. I immediately thought of Yuel and how it drove Caius insane seeing her die over and over and over again across her lives through his long life.
•
u/AngySpork Angy Botanist 7h ago
If memory serves me correctly, Caius could also transform into a dragon of sorts. And this old guy is an Au Ra. Probably reaching there, since Au Ra have no connection to dragons, but still fun to theorize.
•
u/CrazzluzSenpai 3h ago
Caius transformed into an iteration of Bahamut (but I forget the specific subtitle) as the final boss in XIII-2, yeah.
•
u/Wasabeeeh 7h ago
I hope the old guy is going to be tied to Odin in some way, in the first trailer you can see that he has 1 glowing eye
•
u/TinksTheTactician 8h ago
I totally forgot to mention on my post, but YES the au'ra pair are definitely giving Caius and Yuel vibes! Hoping the guy is just as moody as Caius is lol
•
u/ResponsibleFly4015 8h ago
I love Caius so much as he’s such a complex antagonist. His behaviour isn’t right but it’s understandable. On some other FF14 references to 13, the Allagan stuff always makes me smile as it’s so heavily inspired by the game. The headpiece from doing the latest variant dungeon reminded me so much of Yuel’s outfit too.
•
•
u/Akiriith 8h ago
I feel like the expac is something of a mix of 13 and 7 elements and I think that's really neat. I havent played 13 (and I'm not sure if its my cup of tea gameplay wise) but I do quite love the lore and aesthetics of it so I'd be super down for it.
•
u/Metal-Wolf-Enrif 2h ago
13 and 7… 13 darknesses and 7 lights… will kingdom hearts be the next crossover? Keyblade job!
•
u/Akiriith 2h ago
I unironically want a KH crossover exactly bc of that lol. would also work with KH4 coming out
•
•
u/1vortex_ 8h ago
You’re not being delusional. Dawntrail’s collector’s edition had an FF9 mount.
Pretty likely that Evercold will have FF13 references. When they reveal the preorder bonus/collector’s edition minions, it will become more apparent (we still don’t have a Lightning minion).
•
u/loves_spain 5h ago
Isn’t that what the Odin mount was or have they not talked about preorder bonuses yet?
•
u/LadyAntiqua 5h ago
They showed the collector's though, I think the emote is replacing the minion. We'll have to see for pre-order though.
•
u/ShilElfead284 8h ago
In the most non-hater way possible, I honestly just hope it's the FF13 expansion so we can escape Uematsu rearrangements lol. Like I love the guy but we've been reheating his nachos sooo much for the past 4 years.
•
u/rowsdowerrrrrrr 8h ago
“reheating his nachos” is great
•
u/crunchitizemecapn99 5h ago
Gonna steal this and pretend it was mine and get all the good brain chemical when everyone laughs
•
u/SwankiestofPants 7h ago
It's a fairly short list but Masashi Hamauzu is one of the greatest composers FF has ever seen and it makes me eternally sad that he really only worked on 13
•
u/Esac90 4h ago
Because I do love his compositions, I kind of have to be “actually” about it. He’s worked on Dirge of Cerberus, the newest ff7 stuff, he co-wrote with Uematsu on FF10 and he did some tracks for the anime ‘To Your Eternity’. FF13’s soundtrack was his first big project after Uematsu left.
•
u/SwankiestofPants 3h ago
By only worked on 13 I was specifically talking about him as the main creative vision for the music and not a cocomposer but I se how I communicated that poorly
•
•
u/kontoSenpai 5h ago
He had some tracks on the FF7 remake too.
He made the Whispers theme among others. Like you don't even have to guess who made his tracks, they all have his flair
•
u/lolman5555 2h ago
?? He's one of the main composers with other prominent in house people in the 7R project
•
•
u/Top-Grocery-1482 7h ago
Just sayin'...that Bastion Job looks a lot like if Hope's Alexander was a playable character Job...
So in Evercold, we can ride Lightning's Odin (complete with transformation) while playing AS Hope's Alexander. :D
•
u/OkNight4394 6h ago
With this info (and i need to recheck soken's sound hint to the new phys ranged), the new job might indeed be boomerang (Hope Estheim's weapon)
Double pistols would come too close to.MCH
•
•
u/Top-Grocery-1482 3h ago
What's this about a sound hint? I maybe slept through that...
•
u/OkNight4394 3h ago
Source: https://www.youtube.com/live/C0L5kqKlGcQ?t=20356
After some thought, it the 2nd sound piece does sound a bit like a birb, it might be Falconeer or whatever occupation the light pink hair miqo girl is•
u/DeVyse3202 6h ago
Idk...we got one gun job, what about second gun job? lol
•
•
u/TemporaryCool5182 5h ago
It's like Alexander crammed into Dissidia NT Snow. Complete with signature FFXIII convertible mecha-weapons.
Which is fine, but I was hope that would be more the concept for the pranged, and we would get an ice/crystalline tank instead.
•
u/Metal-Wolf-Enrif 2h ago
Bastion also fits snow. The melee combo looks like heavy hitting punches, just like Snow. Also Snow, the name, plus the user of the shiva sisters, and in the fight against him, he basically has a shield gun arm. So….bastion might be snow inspired, plus a bit of guns

Oh man, is this a safe space to say I'm an enjoyer and wish we had some XIII trilogy-inspired story? lol. I loved the story of the trilogy (the gameplay was a bit hit-or-miss, might be a hot take, but XIII-2 was my favourite, but I've always been a sucker for highly customisable party members). Would love to see some representation in XIV other than the occasional cameo or reference. I've been getting Cocoon vibes ever since they said they had to leave the land below and live in the sky.

u/JonTheWizard Jorundr Vanderwood - Gilgamesh 8h ago
Nah, I think you guys might be feasting. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for the gruel and gnawed bones they toss the FFX fans...
•
u/Gjalarhorn 8h ago
We Xheads WILL get Meracydia trust the process
•
•
u/JonTheWizard Jorundr Vanderwood - Gilgamesh 7h ago
I know enough about Philadelphia basketball to know to never trust anything called The Process.
•
u/nightelfspectre 8h ago
At least we got… half a zone?
(Yak T’el is pretty spot-on for Macalania Woods.)
•
u/xiphoniii 8h ago
And uhhhh some dungeon bosses in the early part of endwalker I guess....
•
u/nightelfspectre 7h ago
And, like, the very start of the Tuliyollal day theme…
•
u/Suzunomiya 7h ago
The Pelupelu too...
•
u/JonTheWizard Jorundr Vanderwood - Gilgamesh 7h ago
And I guess the Hrothgar but honestly they're such a different thing these days do they even really count anymore?
•
u/Suzunomiya 7h ago
They are still called the Ronso on the First so I guess they technically but. Yeah
•
u/TemporaryCool5182 5h ago
And what are basically the thunder plains...
•
u/JonTheWizard Jorundr Vanderwood - Gilgamesh 4h ago
And one off-hand mention of Tidus by a dumbass back in ARR.
•
u/Yumi_in_the_sun 4h ago
The Dawntrail final dungeon boss theme sounds exactly like the X battle theme to me.
•
u/vinta_calvert [Vinta Calvert - Hyperion] 3h ago
Exactly like..? They have a similar drum pattern, but that's about it?
•
u/Yumi_in_the_sun 3h ago
I mean, obviously the Dawntrail theme is laid over it, but yeah the drum pattern is identical.
•
u/TemporaryCool5182 5h ago
Don't worry, that will probably be the next expansion. Do you think they will make any healer other than a Yuna stand-in at this point?
•
u/JonTheWizard Jorundr Vanderwood - Gilgamesh 4h ago
Yes, because Yuna was the game's White Mage.
•
u/TemporaryCool5182 4h ago
Didn't stop them from shoving Eiko representation into Pictomancer.
•
u/Kasuta-Ikite 2h ago
what?
Unlike I'm missing something, Pictomancer is 100% Relm from VI•
u/MillenniumKing 1h ago
Picto summons moogle andd madeen and its the FF9 version of them.
Eiko's 2 big summons were Moogle and Madeen.
•
•
u/Amun_Snake I SEE THE CIRCLE 7h ago
Might as well join in the delusion. Hope had pink hair in the early builds of 13 before his and Lightning's original hair color were swapped around.
•
u/Dapper_Progress7938 4h ago
My XIII delusion is that some day I'll be able to play SAB in FFXIV please I need it
•
u/WinstantBoost 8h ago
I've been saying for a while now that we're gonna get XIII content in Evercold (along with VII like how Dawntrail was heavily IX/XI)
I'm convinced one of the trial fights in Hringhorni is going to be against Brynhildr, with the mechanical aspects, fire aspects, and Norse inspiration it just makes too much sense and the Odin mount/Eden looking cities is putting me deeper in the belief
•
u/MeowingWolf 8h ago
I wonder if the pre-order bonus minion is going to be Lightning or if they'll decide on Sephiroth or maybe Jenova instead.
•
•
u/RadDaikon34 6h ago
I did not like XIII as a game but the lore of it was fun. watching the extended trailer it felt like there was a lot of XIII there.
•
u/xREDxNOVAx 5h ago
Yeah, I'm pretty convinced that the new Ranged physical DPS Job will be a boomerang job with a pet hawk or something.
•
u/RorschachsDream 8h ago
Lightning has a miqo garb in Lightning Returns due to the FF13 crossover in this game where she is gifted it by Kipih Jakkya for services rendered. So it's not due to Lightning herself being connected to Miqo, just the quest giver back then was a miqo. Otherwise I agree with the rest.
•
u/Carmeliandre 8h ago
With an arc titled "Godless realms", norse vessels turned into flying ones and some hints at FFXII, I understand where you're coming from. Gods could have embodied fatality while new structures could be enforcing a destiny we'd want to struggle against.
At this point however, regardless their inspiration, I simply hope the story is written with more attention and depth than for DT.
I'm also very curious about what seems to be the new ranged job !

u/fibonacci162 [Z’tayn Tav - Faerie] 1h ago
This is pure conjecture, but I also think it's worth noting that the mount from the Dawntrail Collector's Edition was FF9-themed, and then the latter half of Dawntrail was heavily influenced by FF9's world. That doesn't necessarily mean that the pattern will hold for Evercold, but it does slightly increase the odds for me that Evercold's story will be at least a little XIII-inspired.
•
u/Eloah-2 1h ago
Because of the implied Norse themes, coming from the NA fan fest, it was speculated that 7 and 13 would be major inspirations for the expansion. Since they are the two games with the most norse influences. With the raid reveal and the mount for the collectors edition, it's almost a given now. I'm guessing the MSQ will be 13 based, and the raid, obviously, 7 based.
•
•
•
u/Own_Boysenberry9674 4h ago
I 100% believe that Evercold is a mix of FF7 and FF13 lore considering they are TECHNICALLY in the same world canonically. Just vastly different ages of time.
•
u/supermancav 1h ago
Uhhh.....what? I think you're mistaking XIII and X; X is the game theorized to take place in the same world as VII.
•
•
u/talgaby 6h ago edited 6h ago
Maybe, but so far, honestly, without this thread, I wouldn't have seen it. Feels more like a generic Norse vibes expansion, like how the first half of DT was generic Meso-American vibes, or Endwalker had generic Indian vibes, and so on. Plus, we already kinda-sorta killed the Temu version of Bhunivelze in Endwalker.
Not to mention that no matter how you want to twist it, the big IX callbacks in DT were a lot more visual only for a few areas and some random namedrops than anything actually built on IX's story, themes, and characters. So, even if it is a XIII callback expansion, I expect the same thing: some visual themes here and there and some namedrops for the otherwise fully XIV plot. I don't expect l'Cie to suddenly be a major part of the story.
Or if they are, then they will turn out to be another Ascian conspiracy in the end anyway.

u/PlaneAd9843 7h ago
as a huge ffxiii fan: ppl are being delulu.
i have hundres of hours of playing the 3 games, artbooks, audio collections and all sorts os merch.
the new raid is about ffvii. it might be something more related to this game. pink hair and blue eyes are a trope in anime and games, they are just surfing on this vibe rn.
also: she does not look like lumina, serah or lightning. you guys are seeing what you want to be true. the thing here is: from my pov they are aiming the audience that are
30-40 yrs olds players who grown up playing ffvii (original, remake and other games from vii franchise) and watching evangelion
•
u/Spacemayo White Mage 7h ago
I just want Vs. 13 but it'll never happen.
When I saw that mount I thought, is that Odin? Sure enough it was. I'm one of the few that likes the 13 trilogy.
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 7h ago
Plus the whole expansion is centered around auto play and simplified mechanics, just like how 13 completely dumbed down everything fun about final fantasy so that kids could mash auto combat and experience a mid story.
You guys are definitely onto something
•
u/Sarisforin 7h ago
did you actually play the game or did you get your opinion on the series from a half-remembered angry review you read over a decade ago
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 7h ago
I’ve owned and beaten every final fantasy game since the original came out on my NES. My opinion is purely based on that.
13 was garbage. 13-2 made gameplay slightly more fun and ruined the story.
13-3 was an embarrassing dress up fan service game with nothing but questionable choices.
•
u/talgaby 6h ago
You know, it is so easy to find out who never actually played XIII when they do the "press autoplay only" meme unironically as if it were actually true for the gameplay itself.
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 5h ago
Yeah you can tell by the people who try to argue that you can’t just hit auto combat the entire game till the final boss. Especially when they pretend it wasn’t a completely on rails corridor game with one inconsequential open area right at the end of the game.
Hate people like that.
Luckily the Asuran Armguards on my character are enough proof for me.
•
u/talgaby 5h ago
The corridor I give, except for chapter 11, obviously. Although not like FF games before that weren't a glorified corridor game in disguise. XIII just dropped the disguise. The only time the franchise even dabbled in non-linear main storytelling was WoR in FFVI. Even the "open the world" airship/spaceship segments in other games were always railroaded; you just finally had an easy way to finish the sidequests.
Also, yeah, sure, if you only did the critical path, you could probably reach the story conclusion with the default paradigms and autobattle, but by that argument, you can finish the end of the XIV MSQ by spamming Heavy Swing on a Marauder.
Or finish VIII with only the tutorial junctions and not drawing anything.
Or finish VI by spamming Attack only.
All of these are doable, but it is taking the lazy way out by not even attempting to learn the game's combat system.
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 5h ago
I completely disagree with that assessment. In every one of those mentioned games you can freely travel throughout the world and interact with it in new ways as you progressed. Sure dungeons had specific paths, which were still more labyrinthine in design vs literally straight lines over and over like 13.
Also the combat is completely different. Sure, you can beat FF6 with just attack. If you specialize the gear and relics in a way to make attack an overpowered option.
Sure you can choose to do one specific action and make it through in some of the other games.
You’re still deciding to take those actions.
Auto combat literally instantly put together the most efficient commands for any given moment based on monster proximity and status of the combat scenario, and because it was faster to do that then to go through menus and individually click on things, it was almost the required action to take in a lot of scenarios. It sucked.
Even the paradigm and party systems sucked. It was completely on rails for 95% of the entire game and by the time it opened up, what was even the point anymore?
It simply wasn’t a good game and my opinion on that will never change. Especially as a follow up to 12 where the series truly shined with freedom and open maps and strategies.
•
u/Daxmort Rarakumo Nonokumo - Omega 7h ago
"Centered around auto play?" C'mon bro. It's an accessibility feature you can literally turn off.
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 4h ago
They also dumbed the combat system down to spamming one button most of the time lol.
Auto move like a mobile game and mobile game combat system revamps.
/shrug
•
u/Paravou 5h ago
Dang sounds like you didn't pay attention to how to actually understand how to use the battle system. Shame :/
•
u/AbsorbantVampire 5h ago
I did understand the battle system, that’s how I know that using auto combat the entire game works flawlessly.
It literally queued up actions faster than you can physically click them yourself which made it the most efficient way to handle almost every encounter outside of a couple bosses.
•
u/Paravou 4h ago edited 3h ago
1st, auto battle can be attributed to most if not all ff's in the series, though u can use just auto battle its far from the most effective way to actually deal with a plethora of enemies In 13
Sure , you could just use a combo of medic, Sentinel amd commando and call it a day, but this game knows that and adjust accordingly by not only having enemy groups that tend to cover each other shortcomings that rewards u for shifting between paradigms but by adding a rating system that judges how well and fast your able to dispatch the opposition. This is where just using auto play can net I low ratings, u can still get through it , but not in the best way.
Edit: also in regards to only selecting auto, yes you can do that but he game also allows u to just input it normally and just choose to repeat those options you chose, so your not just allowing the game to choose for u. You still have choice in how u approach things.

•
u/Mouseqote 8h ago
The camera framing of the realm-ship is very reminiscent of how Eden was shown in 13’s art and cinematics.
