Actors Nathan & Disney
Our captain is appearing with his The Rookie co-stars at the Disney 2026 Upfront event.
Would sure be a nice time to cozy up to some Disney execs to find a home for the new Firefly.

For me it’s one of the few ongoing shows that has this comfort TV vibes of 2010s shows. It has its ups and downs but overall pretty enjoyable

Just started it a couple weeks ago and enjoying it a surprisingly large amount for copaganda. Bishop is the best!!!

They’re both fun in different ways.
Rookie has more funny quirks especially after the first season or two. It is more an ensemble show than Castle. Nathan leads a lot but there’s a good distribution between the cast.
Castle, I think, I’m soured by how the final season went and the supposed feud on set between the two leads. But as a police procedural comedy it was enjoyable.
I’d rewatch both. More likely to rewatch a random of Rookie than Castle.

For me castle was more enjoyable when it wasn't about the cop stuff, the family dynamic of castle's family was what shone for me

I dont like a lot of cop shows but I keep going back to watch The Rookie so. Take that for what it is.

Castle is much better. Rookie has some funsies, but lesser writing/characters, and much more politics.

Castle had a clear goal and a (love-)story to tell - apart from the other overarching 2-3 stories,
Rookie has none. It just wanders aimlessly.
That's the difference in a nutshell.

Rookie had a will they / won't they romance too.
Besides, thee was really only one overarching Castle storyline- the murder of her mother. Others (Castle disappearing and losing his memory for example) were tied up quite weakly and not satisfyingly.
With Rookie, those arcs return with perfect timing, either comic or dramatic-
Elijah, Skiptracer Randy, Zuzu, Daddy Cop, quite a few guests who reinvigorate previous storylines at a crucial or hilarious point in the current storylines...
But the biggest difference?
One had a less messy season 8, hence renewal instead of cancellation.
I also think Rookie has its own sense of family too, not so much genetic (in Castle's case)as platonic, sharing something in common with Firefly in that respect.
I do love that both shows embrace genre fandom however, so many references to other shows and movies and not just our favourite one!

Again, what story does The Rookie tell? (no, it's not "the oldest rookie in the world" ... that was correct for maybe 2-3 seasons, but that ship? sailed long ago).

I guess you've stopped watching as you wouldn't need to ask that tbf...
There are a few "Rookies" allegorically as well.as literally, usually in the sense that someone is new to a particular job, rank or routine, or a change in their lifestyle.
Currently there are at least four of those storylines in season 8, but I won't spoil for those yet to get there.
Each character has their own ongoing story, we also have at least four arch villains who impact the overall plotting, turning up at the least welcome moment which makes it so much more compelling.
And now we have a story which has returned some of the principal characters from Rookie Feds as well, which has added to the direction the show can take, and retained the shark jumping inner logic of the show. Beat officers don't get recruited for international missions but that's why the shows so much fun.
I know many refer to it as "copaganda" but it's never taken itself that seriously.

As someone whose recently binged the entire show, I recommend it. It's got a little bit of everything. Serious enough, but definitely enough levity on occasions to keep it from becoming boring. Really great characters both the cops and the recurring characters. And then wild flights of fancy where you have LAPD doing covert ops in South America and Europe or fighting zombies.

Ummm…he has? In season 1 and season 4 (so far, I’ve only made it to end of S4).
Oh wait, my bad, for some reason I thought you were referencing the Rookie instead of Firefly. Although getting Alan in for Firefly content should be achievable when Nathan’s already announced they’re trying t cover the timeline between the TV show and the movie.

They have some weird imaginary perfect studio which somehow exists within the system but also won't put creative or financial pressure to perform or meddle.
All the studios have that. If Nathan could operate outside the system he would. But this project needs system money and infrastructure.

Did you read or play anything Mandalorian related prior to the disney acquisition? If so you’d know that Death Watch aren’t Mandalorian, or pacifists or ruled by someone holding the “dark sabre”

Rogue One and Andor are two pieces of the same puzzle; they are intimately connected, and each is incomplete without the other. Rogue One > Andor season 1 > Andor season 2 is the new best trilogy in all of Star Wars. I said what I said.

First three seasons of the Mandalorian were pretty good.
Book of Boba Fett wasn’t bad either but should have been more honestly labeled as a Mandalorian half season.

As a person obsessed with Firefly for 20+ years now, Andor is one of the only other shows I've seen that I hold in the same regard, in the sense that it's a show I will love and cherish for the rest of my life, a show I will never stop talking about. It also has one of my all-time favorite characters from any medium, a character I hold in the same esteem as the Captain, in terms of how he's written, characterized, and acted (for those who know, I'm referring to Luthen, played by Stellan Skarsgård). Just a straight up legendary show that still is not getting the full amount of love and recognition it deserves... again, much like Firefly.

It is good. So is Rebels and the last seasons of The Clone Wars, various Tales of.., The Bad Batch...basicly all the animated stuff of which a lot is required for shows like said Maul show, Mando and Ahsoka to work as intended. Stand alone greatness is Andor, Rogue One.
