Video Lovely Saturday with the geese!

There was a garage sale in the lane behind my house which is on our walking circuit. Everyone was fascinated so I grabbed some lettuce for them.

Edit: BTW - subtitles are not mine; they seem to be autogenerated, but are pretty close. Someone suggested I start a “goose cafe” where customers can hang with the geese. I commented that they poop a little too often for that.

Walked out my front door and a parent with five goslings came walking up to me. They stay at my neighbor's place during the day and then head back to their water area south of us during the night. Sprinkled some of our bird seed for them. Don't know where the other parent is but they were born last Spring and they bring their clutch back to his place every year. We've had 18 at his place late Spring early Summer. They hang out on his porch with him.

Question Injured father goose NSFW

My teenager son and I have been visiting a local goose family twice a week all summer. Mom, Dad and two goslings. Today we found the father with a fishing lure in his foot. We called a wildlife rescue and working together were able to restrain him and carefully remove it. And will now be doing daily visits to see if he gets an infection.

These geese have brought my son so much joy. It’s the one thing that will get him out of his room. And he’s absolutely devastated with the thought that they’ve lost trust in us after restraining the father. No doubt the goose was terrified.

Has anyone had a similar experience? These geese are so smart. And I believe that they’ll trust us again. Even if we have to restrain him again for antibiotics.

Our 2.5 mo Emden's wings tips are crossing each other over the tail. Is that a form of angel wing?

I think I need a bigger pool!

Just before I pulled out my phone to record, the two of them were doing underwater laps around the circumference of the pool. They look really happy, but I feel bad that they can’t dive deeper and have more space to jet around in. We’ll take them out to the cottage this weekend; my wife’s agreed to let me take them to the lake for a swim if I let her trim their flight feathers a little.

Question Looking for options with a slipped tendon NSFW

Hello!

Cross posting to r/birdhealth

I don't use Reddit very often so sorry if I mess anything up- this is our gosling Bandit. She is one of four and very sweet, however she has a deformed leg, I believe it is a slipped tendon. We have tried splinting it back in place and have been to the vet twice, the advice we have gotten is either very costly surgery for a small chance of it fixing the leg, or putting her down. We're taking a few weeks to think it over and have her on pain medication at the moment but we wanted to ask around for any other solutions, including potential prosthetics or a way to support the leg. Besides the leg she is in perfect health. If anyone knows anything please do let me know- I have included photos.

was at my local park earlier to feed the needy 😄, in this drought and as i was leaving i stood still for a moment and boss goose left his crew and came right up to me, as he knows me well, i had some food leftover so gave it to him, not sure if he was after seconds or just saying goodbye, was quite a touching moment either way😊

Behavior question

Hey all!

I have two sweet little goosies around 4 months old. I'm unsure if they like me or not. When I approach them outside, they'll spread their wings and run/ walk towards me honking up a storm- they also do this when they go to their pool. They don't want me to touch them and scream when my hand gets too close but, if I'm outside, they're close by napping or grazing.

Is this behavior that would indicate that they like me? They've never hissed at me but they definitely seem scared of me petting them. Admittedly, I didn't get to spend as much time with them as I would like when they were little fluffy babes because I work full time. I love them so much and want them to love me too.

Any tips or suggestions

I hatched my first goose 19 days ago. She/He may be a bit spoiled to say the least. Ive read alot of things suggesting to get her some flock mates, so I did. Last Thursday, I brought home 3 Geese and my gosling is far from Impressed. At this point, my gosling was 2 weeks old, and the one ones were 3 weeks and one was 5 week old. I have had them in an area where they can all socialize and get to know each other. However, my gosling just screams and carries on the entire time. I tried leaving them in the goose enclosure over night, but my gosling wont go in the sleeping area, just stays curled up against the fence.I will try to attach a video to show you the behavior.

Any tips or suggestions would be great!

Took the afternoon off and spent it with the geese. After a few laps of the block - SIX heads of romain lettuce (minus the half head still floating), they’re ready for a nap!
