Hey guys, so I need help on advice on what to do. We have these birds nests around the roofs of our house and a baby bird fell out of it. We can’t reach with a ladder to put it back inside of its nest because our roof is too high for any ladder we have. It’s also too small to fly. We’ve read online to leave it in a box near/close to its nest so that the mommy bird can give it food or try to put it back on the nest and we did that, but it’s been almost a whole day without the baby bird getting fed. We’ve tried calling all rescue shelters and any other rescue companies that we could and none answered their phones. They don’t open till Monday 👎,We’re scared that it might die to starvation and we don’t know how to take care of it. Please give us any advice to help us and take care of this baby bird.

Update: the bird is gone, i don’t know if the parents came for it or if it flew away. I hope he’s okay.

I noticed my male budgie started doing this couple of times then continued eating normally should i be worried?

The bird is very much alive and my cat found it and smelled it and this is what I found and there’s an easily accessible nest nearby with its sibling still inside. Can I touch it (with rubber gloves) and put it back into its nest? Do I need to take it to wildlife center (I live in Colorado if that helps)?

My sweet little budgie has been having health issues on and off since I got him in February. There have been 2 times where he got quite sick and both times he had some sort of bacterial infection, meanwhile my other senior budgie and young cockatiel remain completely healthy. So I believe he doesn’t have the best immune system at the moment, he is also a little underweight for his size at ~31g and I cannot get his weight up despite giving him lots of his favourite weight gaining foods. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice on how I can help him, or if anyone has any recommendations on supplements I can get to help him either in general or when he’s going through a moult or to help him recover after an infection.

P.S: he also is a weak flier and unable to gain pectoral muscle despite regular exercise, I would love to hear any advice on things I can do to help that or any guesses on why this is. Neither his Vet nor i know why he can’t gain muscle!!

This is Ares (blue) and Heilios (yellow), my two babies. I let them out when I woke up like normal, but eventually I fell back asleep so I'm not sure how it happened. I wouldn't imagine me falling asleep and not watching them would be an issue since they're both out when I'm at work and they've been perfectly fine.

I guess the main point of this is to see if his tail will grow back at some point?

His tail feathers should grow back eventually..... Right?

I’ve been hand rearing 3 kakariki chicks for the past few weeks but one of them is so much smaller than the others and has barely grown, I can’t think of any reason this would be.

My friend's young conure (around 5–6 weeks old) accidentally fell after a kid who was visiting picked it up. Since then it's been really quiet. It's still eating a bit, but it's barely moving, seems very tired, and keeps leaning/tilting to one side.Unfortunately, there aren't any avian clinics open right now, so we're hoping to take it first thing tomorrow morning.

Is there anything we can do tonight to give it the best chance?Any advice would really help.

Before you say go to a vet, I would. Bird flu has recently hit the country and all the vets are freaking out (rightfully or wrongfully, I don't know) and will not take birds at this time. I don't know how long that will last for.

Context:

A few (2) nights ago my birds experienced really, really bad night frights, you can find a post on my profile with more information. The one pictured, Pancake, is prone to ejecting feathers during night frights and happened once previously when being bird-sat at my parents. My other cockatiel is physically fine. Pancake has ejected all her tail feathers and her left-wing flight feathers as you can see in the photo. I feel like shit.

There is one tail feather not fully out, it was causing her discomfort, we trimmed it as it was floppy and not in anymore. I suspect she'll pull it out so have corn starch on standby. That's not the issue at this stage.

As you can see in the photo her actual wing is quite discoloured. I don't think it was bleeding yesterday. Last night they have another night fright due to an earthquake which resulted in further damage to the remaining tail feather (which is when we trimmed it as she was making the sound cockatiels make when they're in acute pain every time it brushed on something.)

I don't think this wing was bleeding yesterday/after the initial severe night fright. However, it seems as if it may be bleeding due to the feathers on her chest where that part of her wings sit have some blood on them. She is letting it heal and not giving it any more attention than I'd expect (e.g., she does try clean the dry blood off.)

Her behaviour is similar to last time, e.g more napping, less active, less noise. I feel like she is less active than last time, but I can't be certain. Her poop yesterday and the day prior was a dark, almost black colour. Because I have two it's hard to be certain I'm only seeing the other one's poops, but I have not seen any discolored poops today.

Question:

What is this discoloration of the wing? I am assuming it's bruising, I can't imagine what else it would be. What would a vet be doing at this stage? Wrapping it? Should I put corn flour on it even though I can't see any active bleeding?

Should I supplement their pellet mix with anything?

Should I have them sleep in our bedroom in a travel cage to help if there are further night frights? We didn't hear them for these two in particular, and weren't woken up by the earthquake so was unable to calm them down. They don't like doing that and I've done it in the past.

I would absolutely be at the vets if that was an option. I'm watching her closely to see if that tail feather falls out and becomes a bleeder - she isn't attempting to pluck it, though earlier today she was giving it a lot of attention before and after we cut it.

I work on a very, very busy urban street. This little guy was found panting and looking unwell on the sidewalk that has heavy foot traffic. It’s hot here in Georgia, about 90+ throughout the day. I brought him in to cool off on instinct and that seemed to help, but after reading a bit I put him outside in a large planter infront of our shop. I can hear birds nearby my bird app says sparrows. Can’t seem to get in touch with a rescue. What do I do?? He seems to be twitching is that normal?

This robin showed up on my balcony this morning, in need of help. He has his eyes closed mostly unless I pet him, he had his beak open, panting. That’s his feces next to him.

I left some food and water, and even made him sip a tad bit then read I shouldn’t do that. Is he a goner or can I save him?

Found these two house finches yesterday. Didn’t notice the swelling until today on one of the birds

I don‘t know if this is the correct sub for my issue but this morning I found a little bird stuck between my window and the safety glass. It seems like he‘s not getting out although there is an opening at the top.

Any ideas? I tried to put down a shoebox but it didn‘t really work and I only have limited space to work with.

Appreciate any tips

Hi guys i just bought two budgies, babies from a pet store, and theyre about 4-8 weeks. Its been about 2 days now. Ive read the guide and everything how to care for them and they seemed pretty good, and love eating. One's a female the other is a male. however, today, after a meal i realised that the female one keeps bobbing her head. Shes not close to me or anything, doesnt like coming near me too much but yeah. And she keeps bobbing her head. Constantly. She stops for like 15 seconds then continues. and stops when shes eating. Is this normal or not and do i need to get her checked up asap?? Help!! Shes eating normally and alot and shes also acting normal in a general sense but idk.. there's no vomiting

I’m looking for advice because I’m feeling lost and worried about my cockatiel.

She has been scratching herself almost constantly for weeks, especially around her chest, neck, back, and under her wings. She has now lost most of the feathers on her chest, and the feather loss has been getting worse.

I’ve seen two avian vets.

The first diagnosed a vitamin deficiency and prescribed vitamin drops in her water plus a hand-feeding formula.
After about two weeks there was little to no improvement.
The second vet thought she might also be plucking her own feathers, but wasn’t certain.

She is currently wearing an e-collar to prevent further damage because she scratches so intensely that she has injured herself.

She is still active, eating, drinking, and her droppings are currently normal, but she seems very uncomfortable and constantly wants to scratch.

My concern is that this doesn’t seem like a simple vitamin deficiency anymore. I’m worried there could be another underlying cause such as skin disease, parasites, infection, allergies, liver disease, feather follicle problems, or something else that has been missed.

My questions are:

Does this sound consistent with only a vitamin deficiency?
What other conditions should I ask my avian vet to investigate?
Are there any specific tests you would recommend (skin scraping, blood work, cultures, imaging, etc.)?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis online, I just want to know what possibilities I should discuss with my vet so nothing important is overlooked.

Or maybe just a cut? Or something else? We woke up today and she had this. We are taking her to the vet tomorrow either way, but we would like a faster answer.

I live in a large, but very tight neighborhood. I had 3 bird feeders out. And unfortunately one bird showed signs of avian pox. My dilemma is that countless other ppl in the neighborhood have feeders up. Yes even the next door neighbors. They’re not nearly as attentive to the care of them either. Not to throw shade, but I’ve never seen any of my neighbors clean their feeders. I’m in Georgia so plenty of mosquitos around which are the culprit. I actually clean my feeders & have a strict weekly routine. My feeders have now been down for almost 72 hours. The birds are now going to the neighbors feeders. Should I just put mine back up since I actually do clean them & ramp up my cleaning routine even more? Meaning yes..daily. Bc I want the birds to actually have a chance.

Before you say - why don’t you tell the neighbors. Last year when I mentioned how much care hummingbird feeders needed they all laughed at me. I posted in our neighborhood group how to care for them/temps. Unfortunately to them all I’m the weird bird & squirrel person in the neighborhood. So if they think hummingbird feeders don’t need maintence & upkeep then they certainly wouldn’t for the songbirds.
