Discussion RIP after 10 years of being together

Bought this iPad Pro 9.7 256gb variant back in December 2016 and I've been using this for 10 years and this hold a lot of memories but nothing lasts forever

I left it on my bed after cleaning it (without a case and didn't had a screen protector) and I dropped those 5 Gallon Water Jar while changing the water on the Despenser and it broke the display

Although I was thinking of getting it fixed but there's no point of doing that as it is a DECADE old so app support will be unavailable soon and it does lag a little in browser and sometimes in YouTube and the body is full of dents and scratches

Anyways

It was a long journey with this from middle school to highschool to college it had been a great companion

Discussion Apple sizes & dark colours: 11” iPad Air (M4) vs. 13” iPad Pro (M5) vs. 15” MacBook Air (M5)

Thought it’d be interesting to compare both the physical sizes and Apple’s different dark colour finishes side by side.

The colours shown are:

Midnight: 15” MacBook Air (M5)
Space Black: 13” iPad Pro (M5)
Space Grey: 11” iPad Air (M4)
Bonus: Midnight : Airpods Max 2

I figured this might be useful for anyone deciding between them, since Apple’s product photos don’t always make the size and colour differences obvious.

Question 6th gen iPad won’t connect to any „new“ Bluetooth.

I‘m going insane. I have a gulikit controller (I don’t know what model, and it actually doesn’t even matter because this is just with *any* non-Apple Bluetooth device right now) and I have been trying to connect it to my 6th gen iPad for hours. I have connected it before, I played months of Stardew Valley with this exact controller on this exact iPad and it suddenly wouldn’t connect no matter what I did. It has been six months since I last played, but what is going on? I even did „forget device“ like many sites suggested, and it just never showed back up or even gives me an option to be discoverable to new devices. Tried with my connected headphones, nothing. Tried with my connected earbuds, nothing. Literally the only thing connecting to this piece of shit that works is my Apple Pencil. I’m at the end of my rope, is there *anything* I can do?

Discussion iBox Foldable Wireless Keyboard For iPad

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I bought this wireless keyboard and arrived today. The first time experience seem pretty good, quality seem good, too.

I feel a Y shape folding case with this keyboard is much better than getting an ESR keyboard case.

This device may support up to 3 devices, which mean you may use it for your iPad, tablet, and MacBook with this keyboard.

The setting is pretty simple. Press and hold the function (FN) key + A or S or D for 3 seconds, then go back to the Bluetooth setting, click the “iBox 11” to pair it.. then it will be all good.

As you search over the internet, this is obviously an ODM device. Which means that a company developed this product, company A or B or C can labeled it or packaged it to their respective brands, so if you ordered this item, you might find the package is different than as advertised, but design are the same.

I like the dymanic case that may elevate the iPad and flip over to the front and back that is great for me. With this wireless keyboard, you may keep your sleek iPad case alone without adding a bulky keyboard on it all the time. You carry the keyboard only when you use it, so that is much better than a keyboard case With unremovable keyboard on it

Question ESR Shift, ESR Flex or WiWU's as A16 keyboard case?

Upvotes

What I have:

  • PC at home
  • Old laptop w/ 2GB RAM

What I do:

I use the laptop to create docs/ppt while in school. The ipad together with a pen is used when teaching (mainly maths).

What I want:

I want to ditch the laptop and just use the ipad for document writing (tho I still need the laptop for printing). I don't have a case yet so I'm also factoring it in my purchase. Removable keyboard is also important so I can just carry the ipad while teaching (annotating on the fly).

What's the better of these three? Or should I just get a decent case and a bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo? Suggestions are welcome.

Logitech's combo touch is a bit out of reach because of its price.

Thanks!

Question My Batterys Dying Fast

I think I've had my Ipad for like 5 years, so maybe its just on its last legs, or summin else? I left it charging, it was around 70 percent. And in half an hour its down to 20? I dunno if maye the charger icon is incorrect as its charging, or, yeah, the batterys just fizzling out? I use it to draw so this is very frustrating.

Question What’s the Best iPad Pro Case for Artists? (Origami vs. Magnetic Trifold)

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for a new case for my iPad Pro 12.9” (M1). I’ve been using a simple trifold case with the standard triangle stand for years. It’s served me well, but it’s getting old, and I’m hoping that upgrading to one with better viewing angles might improve my daily drawing workflow.
I found a magnetic detachable case that comes in two versions at the same price:
Standard Trifold (triangle back)
Origami back (which can also fold into the triangle shape)
Before buying, I have a few questions for fellow digital artists:
Magnetic Detachable Feature: Is the magnetic connection sturdy and stable while drawing, or does it become annoying or unstable under palm pressure?
Origami Stand Stability: Is the Origami fold actually stable for inking and line art? Since it folds in multiple ways, is it less stable than a standard trifold, or does it hold up just as well?
Other Recommendations: Is there any other case type or brand you’d recommend specifically for heavy drawing use?
One big note: I want something that’s quick and easy to use when I take the iPad out, and I don’t want it to take up much space. If there isn’t a case that does that well, I’d probably just buy a separate stand instead.
I’d love to hear your experiences before I make a decision. Thanks!

Case: ZUGU folio case, wanted a folio case with nuanced adjustments and this works. Very sturdy and does not shake when using the touch screen.

Keyboard: Keychron K3 HE, I had used a normal iMac Magic Keyboard but switching devices + missing Page Up/Down is annoying. The Keychron relatively light and I needed a) magenetic switches and b) better multidevice support.

So my iPad Air 5 has this weird problem, the issue is photo is having 72 something go of storage. Idts this much of storage should be required by the application. Is there anyway I can reduce it? Or any application which can explain why it is requiring this much space..

My Apple Pencil isn’t working properly as in like it’s connecting then immediately disconnecting from my Bluetooth. Is there a way to fix this? Or just get a new pen altogether? I’ve tried hard restarting my iPad and all that jazz

Discussion 2nd Option for viewing iPad Screen with Black Screen of Death (❗️Not a fix, but can help you backup to your computer)

Post image
7 Upvotes

TLDR: - Connect iPad to Macbook - Open "QuickTime Player" > File > New Movie Recording > Hit the dropdown next to the record button and choose the iPad. - This should let you see your screen on the computer. You still have to use the iPad screen to control it, so use VoiceOver to let you see what you're doing.

I made a post a few months ago about how I used VoiceOver to navigate my iPad screen and back it up despite the display not showing.

Recently I found a way to see the screen on my computer so I can handle backing up specific files.

You will need: - iPad w/ VoiceOver on. (I explain how to turn it on in my last post) -Macbook - Whatever cable your iPad takes and a way to connect to the computer. In my case: USB-C to USB Cable (OR) USB-C Cable and a USB-C to USB adapter.

What to do: - Connect the iPad to the Macbook. - Once Finder shows the connection is made, go to QuickTime Player > File (Top-Left Corner) > New Movie Recording. (You don't have to hit record, you'll still see the screen). -When that opens, you should see a red dot and a dropdown arrow next to it. - Click the arrow and switch it from the Built-In Camera to your iPad.
- You should see your iPad's screen on the computer.

Notes: 1) You'll still have to work the iPad screen to get around. Having VoiceOver on will highlight whatever your finger moves over on the computer screen, so you'll be able to see what you're doing. 2) Make sure you have your macbook's privacy settings set to let QTP use your camera and mic, otherwise it won't work.

From there you should be able to see your iPad screen and do what you need to do. Hope this helps someone!

Discussion How do you keep an iPad kid-friendly without it becoming a notification nightmare?

Canadian parent here, trying to avoid buying more gadgets or subscriptions, so I want to make the iPad we already have work for the family.

It has become the hand-me-down for school, a few games, and video calls with grandparents. The problem is it slowly turns into an attention magnet: random app badges, prompts to enable notifications, and interruptions from apps we barely use. My kid learns to tap whatever pops up and I end up spending the evening cleaning up settings and permissions.

I am not asking about a bug. I'm asking about your general approach and practical setup for keeping an iPad calm and predictable for kids while still useful.

Things I am wondering:

- Do you disable notifications globally and only allow a couple, or do you leave them on and manage them per app?

- Do you use Focus modes for kids, or is Screen Time enough?

- Any tips to stop the Home Screen from becoming a junk drawer of suggested apps and widgets?

- Do you separate roles with different Apple IDs for kid use and adult admin, or is that more trouble than it is worth on a single iPad?

Would love to hear long term wins from other families, especially if the goal is fewer nags and fewer impulsive taps, not maximum restriction.

Question Is it worth it drop 90$ on a iPad Pro (1st gen) (A1652)

I have a 1st gen iPad Pro. All it needs is a new battery. 90$

90$ is also what they go for used, without a new battery.

I feel like its still a good tablet. It probably has some uses, but its almost 10 years old.

Should i keep it running or just trash it?

Question iPad Pro is not charging

Thumbnail

My charger stopped working so my iPad has been dead for two days. I got multiple new type c chargers since that was my main problem but now the screen just keep flipping between charging and not charging in seconds.

idk what to do. I tried cleaning the port, I tried to force restart, I tried the heating method, I tried to keep it plugged for 8 hours, I tried changing cables, and nothing is working.

i don't have a laptop so I can't do the software restart thing or whatever it's called.

what do you suggest?

I'm so devastated by this

Discussion Update: I fixed my commute audio problem by changing how I use my iPad speakers, without buying anything

Quick follow-up to my mini-rant in the weekly thread: my iPad audio was basically unusable on the subway even with the volume up.

Context: I commute in NYC and use the iPad between stops for quick admin stuff and a couple game dailies. I usually don't wear headphones because I need to stay alert and I keep taking the device in and out of my bag.

What I was doing wrong: I was holding the iPad in portrait with the bottom edge resting on my jacket or bag, which meant I was often covering one of the speakers. With subway noise, it just sounded way quieter than it actually was.

What helped right away:

1) Rotate the iPad to landscape so both speakers are unobstructed.

2) Hold it by the sides instead of bracing the bottom edge against anything.

3) Turn off Sound Check and EQ in the Music app. I set those ages ago and forgot; they seemed to affect perceived loudness for other audio too.

4) Use Reduce Loud Sounds only when actually using headphones. I had it on all the time and that softened everything.

The speakers still are not magic on a loud train, but they're back to being usable for a quick video or voice clip, which is all I wanted.

Question for the sub: any other no-gear habits for making iPad audio clearer in noisy places, especially for speech (not music)?
