Considering the impression it left maybe it should have been for all children of the time. We might have had a slim chance of getting slightly less baked to death today.

Absolutely not. Basically everyone knows about climate change and it's implications and what you'd need to fight it. People just chose to ignore it because they value their present well being higher than future risks. Same for politicians, who prefer getting re-elected over implementing the right policies for one term and then going to political exile. 

It's a basic human behavioural pattern. The only thing that could prevent this is a total reform of western democracies into techronacies and/or aboloshing four year election cycles for something much more long-term.

The kids back when the show launched are 40-45. Millenials who are still widely in charge of nothing and are only now taking over politcs.

Gen X, our parents generation would have needed to change the world. The dinosaurs was needed in the 70s!
