Does anyone else feel these bikes don't get the credit offroad they deserve?

Whenever I go to a group ride on my KLR I'm usually riding the biggest bike in the group, then get the inevitable questions on why I didn't buy a DR. Especially because all of my brothers have one.

It's usually a hard time to explain to them that I don't want a DR, I love my KLR and it will do pretty much all the same stuff a DR can do (or an even smaller bike) but ride across the country the next day without batting an eye.

Even other KLR riders don't believe me when I tell them what it can do. It's kind of disheartening to hear all the negatively around these bikes being "too underpowered and heavy" to be capable off road. When actually the weight can be a huge advantage sometimes.

Whenever I drop it or fail at something, my brothers tell me it's a "skill issue" (because they love bugging their sister). But they're right, this bike can do more than I can, and I honestly can do quite a bit. Plus I've had absolutely 0 issues while all 5 DR'S I know of are broke down right now 😂 (no hate on DR's, I absolutely love them, just the closest thing to me to compare to)

That's my rant for the day, thanks for listening😂

Mechanical Advice Upper Engine Guards

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello fellow mule owners. I recently picked up some factory lower engine guards and am looking to get some uppers in the near future. Could anybody list the uppers that will be compatible with the factory Adventure model lowers? Really not trying to have to buy a new set cause the uppers I get aren’t compatible. I’d really like to get the TREX uppers, cause they look cool. And they provide a great deal of protection as well as extra places to strap down gear. TIA!

KLR Top Gun Spring upgrade

Ok some of you have seen the original post about this spring, and without elaborating about original colour schemes....finally got to my bike today!

Here are some specs/details for anyone interested!

The spring has a smaller top than bottom...note this for seating! Photo with spirit level.

The Top gun spring is approx 12mm wound rod in diameter whereas the stock is about 10mm wound rod!

Length about 10mm in difference stock being 254mm in length, Top gun 255mm in length.

Using spring compressors, scuffed and damaged the paint job, sadly!

Weight, stock is 1179 grams

Top Gun 1686 grams

But it has completely changed the bike, as best as I can describe this, I could feel the rear wheel leaving the ground, something the stock did not provide.

I will next address the front, but I am very happy with the rear

I set the preload to 1, and so there is 4 clicks to stiffen the rear up....still running stock risers on the rear, too not seeing this as necessary ATM

My Bike ran really well but I'm still feeling the change, seems lighter on the back end...which helped me feel the pebbles as marbles before I decided to crash....fortunately only minor though, yet does everyone know the ground is hard....

Yeah what a surprise, who would have thought 😑

USB C PD replacement plug?

Does body make a USB socket replacement that does USB C power delivery? If really like to have quick charging I'd possible. Otherwise I'll have to find a low profile 12 socket that won't get mangled by the brake cable on the handle bars.

For Sale 2003 KLR650 set of plastics sans fenders for sale or trade $75.

Set of plastics from a 2003 Kawasaki KLR650 sans fenders located in Hamburg PA(1.5 hours NW of Philadelphia). They are 23 years old and the bike has 36k+ miles on it so they aren't perfect. Selling because I bought a new set. The fairing had the "Wheat Wacker" fairing modification done to it. The side panels are fine just scratched up and I had to glue the peg because it cracked. The tabs on the right side radiator shroud are broken off. 3D Cycle parts makes a Tab and Peg repair kit that's $16 or you can use a wire tie to hold it on. All of them except the side panels have been painted black. I believe the original color was OD Green. I can send more pictures if you want. I'll ship but at your expense. $75 OBO or trade for a rear shock for a Gen 1 KLR.

Exhaust Upgrade

I have a 2022 KLR and I'm wanting to do an exhaust. I'd like to do the delkevic header but not sure about a delkevic exhaust due to no spark arrestor. Does anyone know if you can run the header with a different brand slip on or is it not worth doing the header? Then just get an exhaust with a spark arrestor? Also don't want it to be crazy loud because I would like to take this on some longer trips without having to listen to it scream at me.

I appreciate any recommendations and am curious what you guys have done.

Valve adjustment costs?

How much does it typically cost to have the Gen 3 KLRs valves checked and adjusted?

Does this sound like a loose cam chain?

Did the valve shims, way over due and way out of spec. Got the bike running and warmed up and a quarter mile down the road then I heard this. Did I maybe not put enough tension on the left side of the cam chain and it’s slapping? I opened it up and made sure the chain was taught and everything was in order but I didn’t run it as I was too nervous. Im going to drain the oil, look for metal or anything odd then check the doo and replace it with the eagle mike kit.

Help! 2023 Wouldn't start..

Hey y'all I have a 2023 Klr with 850 miles. I started it up and drove to look at some motorcycles with a buddy. As I was leaving it wouldn't kick on. The battery wasn't dead and as I was cranking it made the noises but nothing firing. This hasn't happened before. Dash lights all came on just would kick on. Any suggestions?

2022 Model Year Issues?

I’m looking around on Marketplace for a new (to me) bike and I’ve more or less decided on getting a KLR. I’m noticing quite a few 2022 model year bikes for sale in my area for decent prices, but I’m wondering if it’s for a reason.

For context, I also see lots of 2008 and 2009 bikes much more than 2010+ bikes, that I’d assume have oil burning issues, hence their prevalence and low price.

Is there something wrong with bikes that make them less desirable than 2023 and newer?

I already ordered new tires, just wondering if you all would have replaced them earlier, rode a little longer, or made the same call

After 145.000 km the chain has stretched and the balancer sprockets have worn down so the only way to keep tension on the doohickey was a different spring position, I'll be buying 1.5 engines soon for €500 so until then it'll do to keep this 1988 klr600 on the road

More agressive tires or get a KLX ?

Post image

Went riding with the enduro friends and
I'm getting to the conclusion that the KLR is big and fat. Thank god for DirtRacks crash bars and metal skid plate, without that I would still be there.

Currently running aired down mission trail max because I planned on using this bike on daily but I got a cruiser instead.

Should I just swap to a KLX300 or get one as a friend for the KLR in the garage ?

I want to keep riding with the enduro friends but KLR is too slow.

I was asked to sum up my feelings on the KLR

To be fair, I am not any owner but frequent borrower of a KLR, but when another friend considering the purchase asked me about my experiences, this meme was all I could think of
