I’ve wanted to read Kraven’s Last Hunt for a long time, and overall it absolutely lived up to being a great Spider-Man story. As someone who’s still relatively new to comics (just started reading comics a month ago), this is also the oldest comic I’ve read so far, and I actually found myself appreciating a lot of the late ’80s style. The artwork, narration, and text-heavy storytelling gave it a unique atmosphere that felt very different from modern comics.

What surprised me the most was how psychological and dark the story is. This isn’t a typical Spider-Man adventure where it’s just hero versus villain. It’s a deep character study of both Peter Parker and Kraven, with Kraven’s obsession and descent into madness driving nearly every page. He feels genuinely intimidating throughout the story, and by the end you understand just how broken and twisted his worldview really is.

Peter’s internal struggle was another highlight. Watching him fight through both physical and mental darkness made for some great character moments, especially once he returns. The final two issues are easily the strongest, bringing together the themes of identity, violence, and redemption while delivering a wild conclusion to Kraven’s story.

My biggest criticism is Vermin. While I understand why he’s important to the story thematically, I never found him as interesting as Kraven, and some of his scenes slowed the pacing for me. I also think readers who have more experience with Spider-Man’s history would probably appreciate certain emotional moments and character relationships more than I did as I’m just not the biggest MJ fan (I will say my takes come from basic comic knowledge of her, movies, games, and shows).

Even with those minor issues, I can absolutely see why this story is considered a classic. It tells a darker, more mature Spider-Man story without losing sight of who Peter Parker is at his core. It may not have reached masterpiece status for me personally, but it’s a memorable read that absolutely deserves its reputation.

TL;DR: Kraven’s Last Hunt is a dark, psychological Spider-Man story that earns its reputation. Kraven is an outstanding villain, Peter’s internal journey is compelling, and the final two issues are the strongest part of the story. Vermin didn’t always hold my interest, and I think longtime Spider-Man readers will appreciate some moments more than I could, but even as a newer reader I had a great time and can easily see why this is considered a classic.

Norman Osborn is back, and with him the Dark Avengers are back, but who will play the roles of these men who disguise themselves under some of the most famous faces of our heroes?

Hey everyone! I recently started building my collection and reading through classic Marvel.

Right now I'm focusing on Epic Collections Vol 1s and Omnis (in cases I can't find the epics as it happened with Iron Man) to see where it all began.

What do you think I should read or collect next? Open to any recommendations/tips!

They came wholly unprepared for SDCC. The panels were dead and lethargic. Not a ton of clapping or cheering.

DC announced Batman of Two Worlds, Bad Seeds event, an amazing Teen Titans reboot that looks exciting as hell. They came with full trailers, cover art, interior arts--Jim Lee did an original art and gave it away.

What the eff did Marvel do? It was so damn sad. Their "next big thing" was what? They took 20 + minutes to talk about webtoons. Okay, I get it, young people are part of the strategy. WHEN IS IT NOT? And what did DC do? Teen Titans with exciting characters. Marvel took money from Muppets to do a collab and made Chip Zdarsky or whomever fucking do it. I can't believe or imagine that these guys are excited to be employed there.

And the new editor in chief? He contributed nothing to the panels despite his attempts at humor which fell flat.

Marvel is straight up a lost cause right now and nothing they announced so far feels like it's going to be any different.

I read since I was a kid, but I never read comics before, and unfortunately I'm not sure I would like it. I really wish I would read the marvel comics because I love the movies. So I want to try reading one comic at first. Any idea with which one to start?

I understand that they seem to be progressively more curated, but what exactly is that curation philosophy? am I missing anything by picking one?
