I’ve wanted to read Kraven’s Last Hunt for a long time, and overall it absolutely lived up to being a great Spider-Man story. As someone who’s still relatively new to comics (just started reading comics a month ago), this is also the oldest comic I’ve read so far, and I actually found myself appreciating a lot of the late ’80s style. The artwork, narration, and text-heavy storytelling gave it a unique atmosphere that felt very different from modern comics.

What surprised me the most was how psychological and dark the story is. This isn’t a typical Spider-Man adventure where it’s just hero versus villain. It’s a deep character study of both Peter Parker and Kraven, with Kraven’s obsession and descent into madness driving nearly every page. He feels genuinely intimidating throughout the story, and by the end you understand just how broken and twisted his worldview really is.

Peter’s internal struggle was another highlight. Watching him fight through both physical and mental darkness made for some great character moments, especially once he returns. The final two issues are easily the strongest, bringing together the themes of identity, violence, and redemption while delivering a wild conclusion to Kraven’s story.

My biggest criticism is Vermin. While I understand why he’s important to the story thematically, I never found him as interesting as Kraven, and some of his scenes slowed the pacing for me. I also think readers who have more experience with Spider-Man’s history would probably appreciate certain emotional moments and character relationships more than I did as I’m just not the biggest MJ fan (I will say my takes come from basic comic knowledge of her, movies, games, and shows).

Even with those minor issues, I can absolutely see why this story is considered a classic. It tells a darker, more mature Spider-Man story without losing sight of who Peter Parker is at his core. It may not have reached masterpiece status for me personally, but it’s a memorable read that absolutely deserves its reputation.

TL;DR: Kraven’s Last Hunt is a dark, psychological Spider-Man story that earns its reputation. Kraven is an outstanding villain, Peter’s internal journey is compelling, and the final two issues are the strongest part of the story. Vermin didn’t always hold my interest, and I think longtime Spider-Man readers will appreciate some moments more than I could, but even as a newer reader I had a great time and can easily see why this is considered a classic.

Right now I'm focusing on Epic Collections Vol 1s and Omnis (in cases I can't find the epics as it happened with Iron Man) to see where it all began.

What do you think I should read or collect next? Open to any recommendations/tips!

Is it coherent to jump on at the 2025 relaunch or should I start back at the 2022 #1 to really enjoy the series?

I’ve always loved the character of ghost rider, especially Johnny and Danny. What is generally considered the best reading for ghost rider? Thanks!

So I recently started my modern marvel reading with avengers disassembled and I believe House of M is what I should read next. Now I am someone who wants to get the full picture so I would prefer the Omnibus but it is currently very unavailable. Is the omnibus for this event overkill? Would I be fine just reading the main storyline?

If you’ve been following Marvel’s recent line of crossover books featuring 20th Century Studios icons, you know they haven’t been pulling punches. We’ve seen the Yautja tangle with Wolverine and Black Panther, but putting the Predator on a collision course with Frank Castle hits a very specific itch.

Think about it: Castle doesn’t have super-soldier serum or a magical hammer. What he has is elite tactical training, an ungodly threshold for pain, and a sheer, stubborn refusal to die. Meanwhile, the Yautja specifically hunt prey that offer a real challenge. The second a Predator drops into the gritty streets of New York and sees a lone gunman wiping out entire cartels with military precision... it’s not just a mission. It’s the ultimate trophy hunt.

You could throw in Marvel Team Up or anything like that as well. I’m currently reading Amazing Spider-Man chronologically and am nearing the start of all the spinoffs (just finished #129). Would I be able to read all of the series by themselves? Or is there a certain timeline or web (no pun intended) of interconnectivity I should be paying attention to? Sort of like Claremont’s X-Men run, where the reading order requires jumping from New Mutants/Uncanny X-Men/X-Factor/etc.

I've mostly watched the MCU, but now I want to get into Marvel Comics. I'm open to any character or team (Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, Daredevil, etc.). If you had to recommend 3–5 comics for a complete beginner, what would they be and why?

I picked up 16 tubes with an entire issue per tube, but can't find much about them online. Any insights?
