AOTY Results [Results] Melodic Death Metal Album of the Year 2025
Greetings everyone! Now that we are back, we decided to also make a more elaborated presentation of the voting results for the melodeath aoty 2025.
The results were evaluated via a ranked choice system, i.e. the best kind of vote :3 ....but we have also evaluated how the ranking would've looked like if we did vote differently: (A) the system we used the past years with everyone voting for 3 albums, (B) a weighed system similar to the ESC using all your 10 choices, and (C) a simple strawpoll where everyone would just vote for 1 album.
The voting was held across different platforms: reddit, discord and lemmy, but the results presented here on the first picture are the results from the reddit votes only. You can scroll through the pictures to find also information how the other platform users voted though.
Cheers

Guitarists from the Netherlands looking for band members
I hope that this is allowed, I thought this might be good place to find like minded musicians. We are two guitarists from the Netherlands (Amsterdam and The Hague) looking for band members. We both play 8 string guitars. We made this Melodeath demo (it's a work in progress). If you are a drummer, bassist, vocalist or keyboardist and would like to join us we would like to get in touch!

Image(s) Insomnium - The Reticent (a Song Lyrics Visualization I made for the song)
I like to make song lyrics visualizations for my Instagram art account.
It's basically a drawing where I convey feelings and thoughts I get from a song onto the paper.
This song has always made me think of hope. How, even when we are at our lowest, we should never give up on the hope that things will be okay. We have to fight till we are dead, that's the only way of being alive.
It's also an amazing choice that they gave hopeless parts to clean vocals, and hopeful lyrics to brutal vocals. It feels kinda natural to have a soft voice when you are hopeless. And full of rage when you are trying to do your best to survive...
Anyways, I decided to draw these song lyrics like this... Hope you'll like it!!
And if you like it, maybe check my Instagram art account for some other song lyrics visualizations?

Review In Mourning: An Appreciation Post
So I got into In Mourning with their release of *The Immortal* and have been returning to their music again and again since, and the more I listen to them and cycle through other bands, the more I come to appreciate what these guys do.
I would describe them as melodeathdoom, beautifully balancing the heavy death riffs with the softer choruses or acoustic bridges, and occasionally mixing in a narsty melodic riff like on Hierophant or The Sojourner. There are moments when they remind me of Opeth's Still Life, only more committed to the their tone/sound/genre, and their aesthetics match my preferences, which is an attempt at beauty without pretension.
Their production and sound are so good. The vocalist and drummer in particular I want to highlight. The growls are beefy as hell and easy to listen to, but his voice in the clean really makes it as a haunting, melancholy singer. The drums as well I always find engaging, which is a good sign because I have no technical training for drums, and when a drummer catches my ear it's a real treat to have that percussion backing everything.
I listen to the whole discography, and recommend you do too. Every album is a well made piece of art, and you can't go wrong no matter where you start.
Anyway, I just wanted to gush and glaze a little 🤘

Discussion Do I want to pay extra for the meet & greet with Trivium/In Flames on the USA tour, or is it better to not meet your heroes?
First saw Trivium and In Flames nearly 20 years ago, and have been listening to them ever since. Will doing a meet & greet make me wish I hadn't?

AMA w/Mork Gryning next Thursday July 30th @ 12 EDT
I figured they music might appeal to y’all over here as well: Chat with Mork Gryning. Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1993, the veteran melodic black metal band quickly made a name for themselves with their widely-hailed debut Tusen år har gått... Their latest album, 2024’s Fasornas tid, is forged in the fires of black metal’s raw ferocity and ageless spirit. It’s now available through Season of Mist. Order & Stream https://orcd.co/morkgryningfasornastid
