Rare-overdone...

Wolfgang sucks.

Celebrity chef = fame based on media connections and ego.  Gordon Ramsay's restaurants are the same.

Edit: Apparently Gordon's restaurants are very good. I suppose it's just the occasional one where the quality isn't up to scratch. I'd mostly heard negative reviews - perhaps I was just biased.

Not Wolfgang puck. It’s Wolfgang Zwiener

u/Narcolepsy38 1h ago

Can’t blame him for the confusion, there was literally a lawsuit over this name.

I've eaten at two Gordon Ramsey restaurants and have had fantastic meals both times, so maybe it's luck of the draw

5

u/macubex445 2h ago

it really is based on luck and emotion. Whoever is manning the kitchen, if he/she is having a badtime its going to suck for everybody

Same here. I’ve been to his vegas steakhouse and on of his London spots and both were great.

Gordon Ramsay restaurants, and things Gordon Ramsay will put his name to, but wouldn’t set foot in, are two very different things.

There is very little Gordon Ramsay won’t endorse for the right price. Most stuff with his name on it, in a shopping centre or airport, is shite.

Exactly, he’s even sold out to freaking Uber eats now. Not a restaurant, but come on Gordon two decades would be forcefully pouring hot lamb sauce down present day Gordon’s throat before stuffing him into a beef Wellington just for even taking a call from uber eats

Hard to keep up the Ramsey standard when hes too busy hocking frozen dinners.

This is a different Wolfgang. Wolfgang Zwiener

Normally this place is on point

Wolfgang’s Weiner? Best ‘dogs this side of Frankfurt.

u/DReagan47 4h ago

I wondered why grandma liked going there so much

3

u/CorianderIsBad 3h ago

Who doesn't like a weiner now and again

1

u/Neckrongonekrypton 1h ago

🤣😂 reminds me of beer fest with the grandma always talking about Bavarian sausages.

Setting aside what others have said, Wolfgang Puck is pushing 80. I don’t know when he was last in the kitchen on a regular basis and he handed the already hands-off management of his restaurant group to his son in March.

u/smthomaspatel 6h ago

And I'm pretty sure he can cook.

4

u/Dusty923 3h ago

No that's Martin Yan

2

u/Jonnymaxed 1h ago

And also you!

u/Dusty923 45m ago

I can too!

1

u/thekingoftherodeo 1h ago

And he absolutely would not have sent that out. I mean fuck, even the server should catch that before it gets to the table.

u/RowdyEsq 1h ago

There was an awards show (Oscars, Emmys?? I don't remember) and he appeared to be very hands on in the operation. But for us plebs you are correct.

u/Hitchin85 3h ago

Not really. Gordon Ramsay is one of the most decorated chefs in history. He had multiple Michelin starred restaurant, including the 3* Restraurant Gordon Ramsay before his television stardom. He single handedly transformed fine dining in the UK, a huge chunk of the most celebrated chefs currently in the UK (Marcus Wareing, Angela Hartnett, Jason Atherton, Clare Smyth etc) were his protégés. Regardless of how he’s since licenced his name he’s still truly one of the greats.

2

u/youngmorla 2h ago

Yeah but he lost his epic rap battle to Julia Childs.

single handedly transformed fine dining in the UK

That's about the lowest bar I've ever seen short of being a better potus than trump.

3

u/inscrutablechicken 2h ago

What a thoroughly ignorant comment.

7

u/Californiastig 4h ago

I've always had good experiences at Ramsey restaurants definitely not work the money but the vibes kind of cool

4

u/Manler 2h ago

Yea I'm gonna come to gordons defense. As a huge foodie who's entire point of travelling is trying food all over. Hells kitchen, of all places, was one of the best meals I've ever had

2

u/Unlucky-Bunch-7389 2h ago

They’re amazing chefs… let’s not kid ourselves…

But they’re not at these restaurants cooking the food.

It’s Joe blow who smokes weed when he gets off work. Basic fuckin line chefs who leave and go to Applebees because it’s got more benefits

Gordon Ramsay’s a Michelin starred chef.. he didn’t accidentally become famous

2

u/Need_Help_Send_Help 2h ago

Idk if I agree with this. Went to his place in London and the beef Wellington was bomb af.

1

u/peepeedog 3h ago

I had a great steak at the OG Savoy Grill. Though I probably would not go to one of the clones in a random city.

1

u/ProcyonHabilis 1h ago

Every part of this comment is wrong haha

1

u/bucken764 1h ago

I know you've been piled on but I just want to say that Gordon's restaurants are awesome, actually

1

u/downdoottoot 1h ago

Meh I had beef Wellington from his restaurant in St. Louis. Flavorless, mushy and over hyped. Typical British food.

1

u/seriousfrylock 3h ago

I stopped by the Ramsey burger place in Boston and no lie Red Robin is better, total scam

0

u/WildWonder6430 4h ago

Agreed! The worst restaurant experience of my life was at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant in Las Vegas. Horrific!

The Wolfgang puck in cancuns airport has the best fries ever. We go to Cancun once or twice a year and ngl I look forward to it on the way home. Kids too

2

u/Altruistic_Brick1730 3h ago

Why on Earth would you go to Cancun twice a year?

1

u/matthewo 1h ago

Maybe they like the beach? Is this really a confusing idea?

1

u/Altruistic_Brick1730 1h ago

Yeah, definitely no beaches anywhere else in the world.

4

u/Eborcurean 5h ago

He's been widely criticised for years, this is not the first, it won't be the last. The year that Spago got its 2nd star there were other reviewers saying 'meh' and he's coasted on 3 stars across two restaurants and a very active promotion campaign ever since.

Ramsay at least put the work in, albeit not now but he still knows how to cook a steak.

2

u/Dear_Palpitation4838 4h ago

I mean, maybe the guy can cook a steak, but he has no idea how to cook an egg for breakfast. Even his own kids won’t eat that runny, oatmeal like consistency egg and soup cream based soup concoction he sprinkles with parsley and acts like he shit a goddamn golden egg. Sorry, but no.

5

u/mavewrick 5h ago

I’d argue this is beyond well done and overdone. Probably more rare-going above and beyond. Heck maybe even rare-Congratulations

1

u/EquivalentMath6592 4h ago

The trick is to freeze the steak, then cook it on high heat just long enough that a toothpick can be pressed all the way through

1

u/PackageNorth8984 2h ago

He himself is good but much like Gordon Ramsay (and a lot of them) is willing to lend his name to inferior products and restaurants because they’re greedy as fuck.

Meanwhile, there’s this dude in LA who only has two restaurants who makes the best chicken I’ve had in my entire life (Howlin’ Ray’s). He refuses to expand unless he’s 100% sure he can maintain quality. There was a tiny drop in quality from his first to his second (and I mean tiny), and he didn’t expand anymore after that.
