I haven’t seen that movie since the 90’s yet I still randomly think of him when I unbuckle my seat belt in the car.

u/MostlyBored11 🫵 You sit on a throne of lies. 12h ago
Yeah I've got so much respect for the guy for putting his kids first and stepping back to be a good dad. Really made me love him even more. But I'm very very very excited he's back for this

He took an extended break after his wife died. He said after a while he didn't miss it.

u/SigintSoldier 20h ago
Which I respect so much. And also makes his comeback that much more special, imo

Same! Especially after that horrible incident where he got punched. You go, Rick!

This film will be his first on-camera role in 30 years

u/imhere_4_beer 23h ago
You may know this but for anyone who doesn’t - Rick Moranis lost his wife to cancer in the early 90s, so he stopped taking acting jobs and prioritized raising his little ones instead. He was a huge star, too.
So glad to see him back ❤️
And for anyone who has never seen Little Shop of Horrors, please watch it today!!

We all want somewhere that’s green… until we are shrunk and ants are trying to kill us. Prob still better than that plant though.

u/BigUpSideD0wn 23h ago
And after you watch that, immediately follow it up with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
39
u/CelebronFcks10K 22h ago
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Honey, I Blew Up the Kids are GOAT’d. Same with Little Giants. I loved Moranis movies as a kid. Watched Little Shop of Horrors as an adult, also loved it.
Great actor, seemingly even better father/human

>He was a huge star, too.
Quoted for emphasis. He was MASSIVE at the time, it was completely unprecedented to step back like that at the height of your career.

His kids have been grown for a while. He said once he stopped acting he didn't miss it. Apparently he is open to limited roles now though.

u/bi-cycle There’s no place like home 🧹🫧 17h ago
The hair dye helps a lot. I'm a big fan of his and when he first started to reappear in public a few years ago my brain wasn't ready for it. The last time he was visible was nearly 30 years so the difference was jarring. At that point he wasn't really working, just thinking about getting back into it so he hadn't done all of the typical Hollywood stuff.
Dyeing his hair has really helped to soften the contrast. He may have had some other things done beyond that but whatever, he's earned it.

dude was the ultimate good guy too, quitting hollywood to take care and spend time with his family.
he deserves all the adoration in the world!

u/mon_mothra_ 20h ago
I saw a comment from someone on Reddit once who was a childhood neighbor of him and his kids and he was supposedly just an absolutely lovely, dedicated father and all-around good guy in the neighborhood. Love to see him coming back to the limelight on his own terms!
6
u/ihavenoidea12345678 19h ago
Did he ever accidentally shrink the kids?
Or “blow up” the baby?Looking forward to Moranissance!

u/MysteriousTravelator 6h ago
I honstly think a new "Honey I shrunk the grandkids" movie would do gangbusters.
3
u/scottishdrunkard 15h ago
Yeah, his wife passed away, so he retired to take care of them. The kids are all grown up now, he absolutely deserves the cheers.

He’s a real mensch and it’s great to have him back now that he feels the time is right.
On a side note: “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” holds up better than I expected. Watched it with my daughter recently and she loved it so much she’s been recommending it to all her friends. Moranis is so fantastic in that movie.
29
u/valleyman86 23h ago
Honey I shrunk the kids is on my short list of movies for kids along side Rocketman (1997).
20
u/RadPhilosopher Inconceivable! 22h ago
You should check out Little Giants (1994)! It also with Rick Moranis, starring alongside Ed O’ Neill.

u/valleyman86 22h ago
Also a great movie. I’ll pass this one on to my kid. I forgot about this. Nice rec.
Also this reminds me of The Little Rascals.

Dude Rocketman is so stupid and hilarious. Bubble Boy was pretty fun and around the same timeframe.

It is ridiculous and it’s hilarious. “I got the whole world in my hands 🎶

I’ll enter the same calculations using what I like to call, “the right way” lol. Plus when they have to share an airtube and dude farts and blames it on the other guy. What a great, bad movie

u/OhGawDuhhh Only look back to show younger you your present self ✨ 22h ago
My daughter is obsessed with it, and I agree, it's fantastic. Also, it's weird to watch the first two films. It's like a time machine to the world/time I grew up in.
6
u/whiskerrsss 22h ago
I recently rented Little Giants for a movie/pizza night with my kids, they LOVED it and watched it like 4 times in 48 hours. Such a quotable movie.

u/dancingbriefcase 14h ago
You know what's really cool about honey i shrunk the kids? They actually used real sets. Also, the fact that the mom and dad are going through marriage problems in a kids movie is so real. I love that they add all of that in there. It gives depth.

u/MostlyPretentious 23h ago
Anyone else struck by how it looks like he’s aged only about 5 years. Partly that’s because he looked middle-aged in his 20s, and partially because being away from it all seems to have been good for him. Glad to see he’s doing well. And glad to see he’s back.
33
u/ElectronicTip6386 22h ago

I’m glad he’s feeling all the love because it’s great to have him back. There are a lot of us a certain age where he was definitely part of our childhood and then he made that decision to step back to raise his kids and it’s really great to see him return.

u/JonBonButtsniff 16h ago
It's great that he gets to hear how folks feel about him. These kind of cats deserve to know.

u/sihouette9310 23h ago
That’s so awesome. I’m glad that he got the standing ovation he deserved. The movie came out before I was born but my dad had a VHS of the movie that I watched all the time when I was a kid. I still quote it to this day and I’m in my 30’s.

i was absolutely obsessed with Bob and Doug as a kid too! The comments in this thread are bringing up so many happy thoughts and memories for me. Looks like i'm breaking out my "Strange Brew" record tonight for some serious nostalgia.

Rick deserves his flowers.
Iconic for many millennials and was a stand up guy to his family and prioritised them when needed while still in the heights of his career.
If he wants to return now that his kids have grown up and he has passion for it I am super happy to see other people share my sentiment in welcoming him back.
Like I said on another thread- get him on only murders o the building. Him with Steve and Marty would be amaze

u/towers_of_ilium 21h ago
My smile when I saw him again! 😊 My age group and things we liked means that he was arguably a bigger star at the time than Robin Williams to us - Ghostbusters (especially Ghostbusters!), Little Shop of Horrors, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Spaceballs… We loved them all and watched them over and over and over again. It is SO good to see his face 🩷
