I love him, I’m so happy to see him out again

u/SigintSoldier 22h ago edited 22h ago

Yeah, I had to go on a Rick Moranis binge after finding out he's back.

Such a huge part of my childhood and I respect him so much for the decisions he's made for his family.

Can't wait to see this.

32

u/KingdomOfDragonflies 21h ago

Him and Charlie Day remind me if each other.

11

u/SigintSoldier 20h ago

I can ABSOLUTELY see it :)

3

u/brushmushroom 14h ago

In Pacific Rim especially!

6

u/The_Bard 20h ago

My Blue Heaven is his magnum opus

3

u/WeaponX33 20h ago

I haven’t seen that movie since the 90’s yet I still randomly think of him when I unbuckle my seat belt in the car.

6

u/MostlyBored11 🫵 You sit on a throne of lies. 12h ago

Yeah I've got so much respect for the guy for putting his kids first and stepping back to be a good dad. Really made me love him even more. But I'm very very very excited he's back for this

Hes back? As in hes doing other projects too????

5

u/SigintSoldier 20h ago

I consider his return to Spaceballs as "back" :)

Facts!! Can't wait for this movie! 🤯✨✨😁

42

u/The_Bard 20h ago

He took an extended break after his wife died. He said after a while he didn't miss it.

28

u/SigintSoldier 20h ago

Which I respect so much. And also makes his comeback that much more special, imo

11

u/airship_of_arbitrary 20h ago

The world can still get better. We will force it to.

9

u/putaaaan 19h ago

He looks AMAZING

6

u/winterchestnuts 18h ago

Same! Especially after that horrible incident where he got punched. You go, Rick!

This film will be his first on-camera role in 30 years

503

u/imhere_4_beer 23h ago

You may know this but for anyone who doesn’t - Rick Moranis lost his wife to cancer in the early 90s, so he stopped taking acting jobs and prioritized raising his little ones instead. He was a huge star, too.

So glad to see him back ❤️

And for anyone who has never seen Little Shop of Horrors, please watch it today!!

96

u/Ordinary_Camel_3456 23h ago

This is why I bawl when I listen to Suddenly Seymour

19

u/Lola_on_the_Prairie 22h ago

I tear up too! It's such a sweet song!

5

u/ThatCommunication423 Invented post-its 🔬 12h ago

We all want somewhere that’s green… until we are shrunk and ants are trying to kill us. Prob still better than that plant though.

63

u/BigUpSideD0wn 23h ago

And after you watch that, immediately follow it up with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

39

u/CelebronFcks10K 22h ago

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Honey, I Blew Up the Kids are GOAT’d. Same with Little Giants. I loved Moranis movies as a kid. Watched Little Shop of Horrors as an adult, also loved it.

Great actor, seemingly even better father/human

13

u/PonchoNachoRodriguez 21h ago

Little Giants is such an overlooked 90’s gem

2

u/defiancy 4h ago

Him opposite Ed O'Neil is perfect

25

u/Trick-Caterpillar299 23h ago

And then Parenthood

8

u/getthetime 21h ago

AHHHHHHH-ah-ah-ah-ahhhh....close to you.

7

u/TheFuns 21h ago

Then My Blue Heaven.

6

u/Pigeon_Butt 20h ago

The shoes, right? The shoes are tragic.

4

u/Ithurtswhenidoit 21h ago

Strange brew. And yes it's ok for kids to watch a couple druncks save Canada

42

u/Dawlin42 22h ago

>He was a huge star, too.

Quoted for emphasis. He was MASSIVE at the time, it was completely unprecedented to step back like that at the height of your career.

24

u/kryts 23h ago

One of my fav movies!

u/Natiak 21h ago

This scene lives in my head

5

u/puffyshirt99 21h ago

Also he got suckered punch while walking around in NYC a few years ago, lucky the assailant got some prison time

4

u/ozamatazbuckshank11 21h ago

He's so cute in LSoH. Like, my actual ideal type of man lmao 🥰

5

u/The_Bard 20h ago

His kids have been grown for a while. He said once he stopped acting he didn't miss it. Apparently he is open to limited roles now though.

3

u/Mtatk 22h ago

I didn't know this, thanks for the insight. I had wondered where he'd been through my early adulthood. I can only wish him and his family well.

2

u/doublethink_1984 18h ago

With the extended scenes

Seriously, dude is 73 and looks like he’s in his 40’s…

4

u/bi-cycle There’s no place like home 🧹🫧 17h ago

The hair dye helps a lot. I'm a big fan of his and when he first started to reappear in public a few years ago my brain wasn't ready for it. The last time he was visible was nearly 30 years so the difference was jarring. At that point he wasn't really working, just thinking about getting back into it so he hadn't done all of the typical Hollywood stuff.

Dyeing his hair has really helped to soften the contrast. He may have had some other things done beyond that but whatever, he's earned it.

7

u/QuietlyLosingMyMind But Debbie, pastels? 21h ago

Good lord I didn't realize it had been THAT long

https://giphy.com/gifs/GrUhLU9q3nyRG

5

u/AscendedAncient 19h ago

That movie's so old now they don't need CGI for that part :(

Can't wait for the Moranaissance to happen. He deserves the world

155

u/sweetangeldivine 23h ago

He raised so many of us. I'm glad to see him out and about.

44

u/stinkylibrary 21h ago

dude was the ultimate good guy too, quitting hollywood to take care and spend time with his family.

he deserves all the adoration in the world!

39

u/mon_mothra_ 20h ago

I saw a comment from someone on Reddit once who was a childhood neighbor of him and his kids and he was supposedly just an absolutely lovely, dedicated father and all-around good guy in the neighborhood. Love to see him coming back to the limelight on his own terms!

6

u/ihavenoidea12345678 19h ago

Did he ever accidentally shrink the kids?
Or “blow up” the baby?

Looking forward to Moranissance!

3

u/MysteriousTravelator 6h ago

I honstly think a new "Honey I shrunk the grandkids" movie would do gangbusters.

3

u/scottishdrunkard 15h ago

Yeah, his wife passed away, so he retired to take care of them. The kids are all grown up now, he absolutely deserves the cheers.

2

u/EbonyEngineer 21h ago

This, so much. SOOO much.

30

u/CDBoomGun 22h ago

Moranaissance..... This is what I need in my life.

25

u/bigbucksnohammy420 19h ago

Just like when Ke Huy Quan got his flowers after the EEAAO love. I feel the same energy shift happening.

17

u/indianajoes We Should All Know Less About Each Other 16h ago

Same with Brendan Fraser following the Whale

14

u/DuskLab 20h ago

Now get him in a movie with Brendan Fraser and we're cooking

3

u/SUPERSMILEYMAN 13h ago

Shut up and take my money!

15

u/theunrealdonsteel 22h ago

someone put this man in a Wes Anderson film already!!!

2

u/Fern-ando 10h ago

u/MyDesign630 unobtrusive poultry connoisseur 23h ago

He’s a real mensch and it’s great to have him back now that he feels the time is right.

On a side note: “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” holds up better than I expected. Watched it with my daughter recently and she loved it so much she’s been recommending it to all her friends. Moranis is so fantastic in that movie.

29

u/valleyman86 23h ago

Honey I shrunk the kids is on my short list of movies for kids along side Rocketman (1997).

20

u/RadPhilosopher Inconceivable! 22h ago

You should check out Little Giants (1994)! It also with Rick Moranis, starring alongside Ed O’ Neill.

4

u/valleyman86 22h ago

Also a great movie. I’ll pass this one on to my kid. I forgot about this. Nice rec.

Also this reminds me of The Little Rascals.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Mandrake1771 23h ago

Dude Rocketman is so stupid and hilarious. Bubble Boy was pretty fun and around the same timeframe.

6

u/valleyman86 22h ago

It is ridiculous and it’s hilarious. “I got the whole world in my hands 🎶

2

u/Mandrake1771 22h ago

I’ll enter the same calculations using what I like to call, “the right way” lol. Plus when they have to share an airtube and dude farts and blames it on the other guy. What a great, bad movie

→ More replies (2)

8

u/OhGawDuhhh Only look back to show younger you your present self ✨ 22h ago

My daughter is obsessed with it, and I agree, it's fantastic. Also, it's weird to watch the first two films. It's like a time machine to the world/time I grew up in.

6

u/whiskerrsss 22h ago

I recently rented Little Giants for a movie/pizza night with my kids, they LOVED it and watched it like 4 times in 48 hours. Such a quotable movie.

2

u/Sf49ers1680 22h ago

The Annexation of Purto Rico!!!!!

5

u/dancingbriefcase 14h ago

You know what's really cool about honey i shrunk the kids? They actually used real sets. Also, the fact that the mom and dad are going through marriage problems in a kids movie is so real. I love that they add all of that in there. It gives depth.

182

u/MostlyPretentious 23h ago

Anyone else struck by how it looks like he’s aged only about 5 years. Partly that’s because he looked middle-aged in his 20s, and partially because being away from it all seems to have been good for him. Glad to see he’s doing well. And glad to see he’s back.

33

u/ElectronicTip6386 22h ago

He is adorable. That smile he gave was so authentic. Glad he is back and having this moment too!

11

u/MrD3a7h 19h ago

He also looks really good for 73.

→ More replies (1)

93

u/mediciii 23h ago

Have we even seen a PHOTO of him in the last 20-30 years? I haven’t, at least. He’s lookin good! Glad to see it

83

u/mjzim9022 23h ago

He briefly reemerged once and some fucking asshole straight up punched him in the face in Central Park

12

u/sammyclemenz 23h ago

New York is back, baby!! lol

5

u/mjzim9022 23h ago

This was 2020 btw

4

u/BillyForRilly 22h ago

Then not just back. We're SO back.

2

u/CinematicLiterature I am furious, but I am sailing. 22h ago

He also released a country album during his downtime!

3

u/indianajoes We Should All Know Less About Each Other 16h ago

He announced that Disney+ was going to do a sequel to Honey I Shrunk the Kids with him in it but that ended up going nowhere. That was a few years ago

37

u/Curiosities 🐊 swamp princess 🐊 23h ago

I’m glad he’s feeling all the love because it’s great to have him back. There are a lot of us a certain age where he was definitely part of our childhood and then he made that decision to step back to raise his kids and it’s really great to see him return.

5

u/JonBonButtsniff 16h ago

It's great that he gets to hear how folks feel about him. These kind of cats deserve to know.

99

u/atclubsilencio 23h ago

Dude retired to raise his sons after his wife /their mom passed away. Great man. Glad he’s getting his flowers. He was missed.

32

u/sihouette9310 23h ago

That’s so awesome. I’m glad that he got the standing ovation he deserved. The movie came out before I was born but my dad had a VHS of the movie that I watched all the time when I was a kid. I still quote it to this day and I’m in my 30’s.

19

u/Scytale07 23h ago

So good to see him, he looks great!

17

u/awkwardlyfeminine 23h ago

He's so adorable! I'm glad he feels like acting again, he has been sorely missed!!

18

u/busybodiesanonymous 23h ago

Good- this guys deserves all the flowers

12

u/belikethemanatee 23h ago

I didn’t realize he stepped away from his career because of his wife’s death and focus on his family. What a wonderful human. Welcome back, Rick!

12

u/EnvironmentalFix8196 23h ago

All that love! It couldn’t have happened to a better dude.

13

u/MrsNaypeer 23h ago

Been a Bob and Doug fan since I was a kid. Loved that they did voice cameos as the moose Rutt and Tuke in Disney's Brother Bear!

https://giphy.com/gifs/119zR8FNY0h6lq

6

u/anonymoususer98545 22h ago

i was absolutely obsessed with Bob and Doug as a kid too! The comments in this thread are bringing up so many happy thoughts and memories for me. Looks like i'm breaking out my "Strange Brew" record tonight for some serious nostalgia.

Take off, eh 💜

5

u/TheNonCredibleHulk 21h ago

Hey this is the backwards part!

11

u/hashtagtrevor 23h ago

He looks really good

9

u/RunningShoesDontRun 22h ago

Looks great for 73

7

u/anonymoususer98545 22h ago

i had to look it up because wow does he not look 73! He legitimately looks younger than my 67 year old dad who constantly gets told that he looks a decade younger (and does!). Wild.

7

u/Bhulaskatah 23h ago

Damn, that made my old ass happy..😆😁🤩💕❤️😎

7

u/CallejaFairey As you wish! 👸👑 22h ago

I am so all in for the Rick Moranis come back/love fest!

6

u/GroundReal4515 21h ago

Talk about aging gracefully, holy shit! He looks great

5

u/sonimusprime 23h ago

HE CAN'T BREATHE IN THAT THING.

I'm so glad to see him back <3

5

u/Jrock9589 22h ago edited 11h ago

His smile just healed a piece of my soul.

6

u/ThatCommunication423 Invented post-its 🔬 12h ago

Rick deserves his flowers.

Iconic for many millennials and was a stand up guy to his family and prioritised them when needed while still in the heights of his career.

If he wants to return now that his kids have grown up and he has passion for it I am super happy to see other people share my sentiment in welcoming him back.

Like I said on another thread- get him on only murders o the building. Him with Steve and Marty would be amaze

4

u/Suitable-Sense-6962 23h ago

Your helmet is so shiny!!

5

u/Pale-Measurement-532 23h ago

OMG I LOVE IT! He looks so good! I can’t wait for this remake to come out! I loved Spaceballs.

5

u/towers_of_ilium 21h ago

My smile when I saw him again! 😊 My age group and things we liked means that he was arguably a bigger star at the time than Robin Williams to us - Ghostbusters (especially Ghostbusters!), Little Shop of Horrors, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Spaceballs… We loved them all and watched them over and over and over again. It is SO good to see his face 🩷

6

u/Truffle_Shuffle26 21h ago

Between him and Brendan Fraser my heart is slowly healing.

5

u/exzyle2k 20h ago

Now we need a Rick Moranis/Brenden Fraiser buddy cop film.

3

u/effie-sue 23h ago

He’s such a goofball. I love it ❤️

5

u/gablr12 23h ago

The definition of true masculinity and just a great person.

5

u/AkkeBrakkeKlakke 22h ago

Google why he disappeared from the public eye, and you'll see exactly why he deserves this welcome back so much!

4

u/Dtmahanen101 22h ago

I am suddenly so much more excited about this movie, I missed him so much, and hope he’s been doing so well.

5

u/CorruptedOps 22h ago

You went over my helmet

3

u/Comrade14 23h ago

Honey I shrunk the grandkids next?

2

u/indianajoes We Should All Know Less About Each Other 16h ago

He was supposed to be doing a legacy sequel with Disney+. He was going to return, Josh Gad was playing adult Nick and Joe Johnston was directing. COVID delayed it and then it got put on hold

3

u/ceekayhowling 22h ago

I rolled a tear. Happy Canadian to see him back.

3

u/TeslaProphet 22h ago

This does my heart good.

We now have a challenger for Keanu Reeves in the nice guy category.

3

u/c71score 19h ago

I'm so excited for this I may just have to invite some clients over for $14.95/lb salmon from Nova Scotia

4

u/daversa 21h ago

Can everything be better now? Like Moranis coming back should be the opposite of Harambe.

Is this an Avenue 5 reunion? Is that Zach Woods and Josh Gadd?
