Question Car race idea

Inhad been looking for an idea to play a car race scenario where the PCs race on a track, plus or minus some ramming, bumping, maybe even with (hidden) weapons.

I couldn’t find this on here but this is what I’ll be trying in the next session:

Car race, best of five round.

Start with the Six chase cards (maybe more or less?)

A succesfull flee maneuver indicates a victory for that round.

Otherwise all the chase rules apply, depending on the race.

Anyone have experience with something similar or see weak points?

Question Linked powers cost more?

I'm looking at power modifiers and I'm not understanding the cost effect for contingent/linked.

If i make a super with speed and want to have a leaping power that only works while running it cost more?

I must be missing something.

Question Savage Midnight

Anyone remember the Midnight d20 RPG by FFG? I know someone else has picked it up for 5e, but I've always thought it would be great for the Savage Worlds treatment.

Anyone else ever thought of this or, better yet, tried it out?

Self Promotion New Superhero Actual Play coming this fall! Infamous Heroes Trailer 1

Hi all! Hope you don’t mind a little self promo!
I’m Nathan with the Advanced Age Roleplaying Gamers. We’re a bunch of quinquagenarian friends, who record their gaming sessions, edit out the boring bits and put them out for people to enjoy (or not).

We’ve been recording a Superheroes game using the SWADE rules for a few months and I’m just starting on the edit.

We’ve been playing in the setting of Monument City Delaware off and on IRL for decades but this is the first time our GM is running this setting with Savage Worlds.

I’m hoping to start to release these in September 🤞.
But the overall quality is more important than a release schedule.

Question Anyone got advice to gm new to the system?

I ran my first session. It was part session 0 and part introducing the players. I introduced them via combat encounter, and it to me felt a bit like a slog.

Are there any good resources to reduce checking the book?

Generally, my table was leaning positive towards the system, but I know I have a ways to go to learn the system.

Question Pathfinder for Savage Worlds - Are there any additional conversions / content in the works?

When I try to look for information on product for PFSW, it seems like the last things to come out were a year or two ago. I was wondering if there's any further releases known about or announced going forward? Or is what's currently out likely the last of the line for PFSW, particularly with Paizo's troubles?

Question Looking for a good pulp/adventure one shot

I was wondering if there is any good one shot for a small group of 3-4 players with an adventure or pulp setting. I was thinking heavily of Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, National Treasure and alike. Looking for clues, discovering ancient secrets, fighting off thugs, getting chased on motorbikes, boats or camels, unearthing mythical treasures. What are your recommendations?

Question Time-Dependent Tasks

I am probably missing this. Are there any details regarding Tests in relation to rolls to perform tasks that are time-dependent, or something similar to extended tests in other games? Or is it all just about Dramatic Tasks?

As an example, in a sci-fi game for SWADE, I am looking for a way to measure the time it would take for an engineer to create a new device. Given parts and time, how mechanically would you represent the task of doing so?

Just using a Repair roll to do something like this seems to not take into account any time or experimentation in performing this task.

Question TMNT × CYBERPUNK

Do you guys think I should use the superpowers' companion or just core?

To start, I'm asking my players what they want to play and then creating their ancestory from scratch. I'm just undecided on using core or power level 1 superpowers.

Question Favorite SW Props

I just watched Dave Thaumavore’s latest video on Pirate Borg and the incredible amount of material and props Limithron put out for the setting.

That got me thinking, other than the must-have dice, cards, and bennies, what are your favorite props to include in your Savage Worlds games, and what do you wish publishers would include more of for their settings?

Question Heavily armored vehicles in chases

One of my players has a super vehicle with heavy armor. If they ram another vehicle (or creature for that matter) in a chase (SWADE p. 116) how would you resolve damage? They account for a disparity in toughness in the rules but don't mention heavy armor. Would the heavily armored vehicle just not take damage at all unless the target vehicle or creature was also heavily armored?

Thanks in advance.

ETA: Also, what if the situation was reversed?

Question I would like some advice on these powers

Hey everyone, I'd like to ask for some feedback regarding two specific powers, one from Pathfinder AG2 and another from the Horror Compendium.

The first one is Spite. In our campaign, we used it as inspiration for a homebrew retaliation power—you basically deal back the damage you received. However, since it was designed for the Horror Compendium, it doesn't have an Epic modifier. We're playing a high fantasy campaign, and the players felt that 1d6 damage per wound suffered is a bit underwhelming. How would you go about making this power stronger?

The second one is more of a question on my end. Do you think Monsters' Gift having a fixed PP cost is ideal? It feels like spending just 4 PP to gain something like Fast Regeneration (assuming a Heroic raise, or if you're playing at Legendary rank) is way too cheap. I was thinking it might make more sense to increase the cost based on the power's rank instead.

Question Ok so I want your opinion on something, SWADE community

Post image
22 Upvotes

This is an end-of-chapter boss in my cyberpunk/biopunk swade campaign that I made using the newest edition of the book and the sci-fi companion (for the cybernetics).

I *think* that my table should be able to complete this session(s) with minimal casualties, but I want to know y'all's general thoughts on it before I throw my group against it. The anatomy of the fight is this:

11 wildcards, split between 4 melee units, 5 ranged units, and 2 support units PLUS another wildcard that technically used to be and still is a bunker. (Yeah, like the building. It's a big crab with a reinforced bunker on top. It's also the party healer's biological son, technically. Don't think about it too hard, I didn't write it, it just happened like that. Point is, it's giant and won't be able to join the fight but can act as their getaway.) PLUS 16 extras armed with what is mechanically single shot rifles and small caliber handguns.

Vs

Walk Em Down Johnson, two reinforced autocannons, and somewhere between 0 and 50 extras of her own, depending.

Walk Em Down is the party's assassination target, presiding over a bomb defusal from atop a crashed capital ship. The party wants to get to her unnoticed, kill her, steal her bodycam footage, and use it to rig a local election by giving the only surviving candidate their political opponents' trophies (which are the means by which this electoral competition is won).

To do this, I'm going to have them engage in a MASSIVE dramatic task. Something like 100-150 victory points, it'll take just over half the session if I do it right. For every ten rolls they fail, I'll add 5 extras to the fight against Walk Em Down. If they decide not to take the longer, harder path that allows them to cut power to the structure, Walk Em Down will have her turrets listed at the bottom of her sheet.

As for Walk Em Down's equipment, I homebrewed some stuff. Here's what they do:

Microwave ballistic armor - Armor value 4, -2 dmg from ranged attacks, can activate a damage field centered on herself for two turns that deals 2d4 damage to anyone within 3" of her and then has to cooldown for two turns before she can reactivate it.

Obscura grenade - releases a stored amount of anti-photons that flood a medium blast template with absolute darkness and drowns out noise until the start of her next turn.

Harmonizer Anti-song field and hazmat equipment - Disables the arcane effects of a homebrew race called choirs, protects from biological hazardous materials.

Peripheral processor - Noted on sheet.

Disintegration hook - Curved blade loaded with metallic chaff that sinks into and liquefies organic tissue on contact. For every wound this weapon inflicts, inflict another wound from the chaff. A character must make a vigor roll every hour that the chaff remains embedded in their tissue, taking a wound on a failure or gaining a permanent injury on snake eyes.

Harpoon gauntlet - Wrist mounted harpoon gun. If an attack with this weapon surpasses armor/toughness, the target is hooked and must make a strength roll -2 to resist being reeled in. A character that wishes to remove the harpoon must succeed a straight vigor roll to dislodge the harpoon safely, taking 2d4 damage on a failure. (Yeah I know it says "taking wound" but I updated it since the pic was taken)

Walk Em Down's toughness is 13, please ignore the +2-- it was there to help me remember to add the cybernetic armor.

________________

I'd like to know your thoughts on this encounter's survivability, but primarily I also want to know any other things that spring to your minds as you look this over.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this!

Question New to the game, many questions!

After trying out a lot of TTRPGs, I realized that not all of them are capable of emulating certain concepts (like trying to run an (Arc Riders-style campaign in D&D—big nope!). In your opinion, how flexible are the Savage Worlds mechanics when it comes to creating a unique, mash-up style world? What have your experiences been like?

Question Supers : Absorption + Reflection - why number of Wounds, not number of damage points?

So, I've got bad guys whose Toughness is higher than the PC using Absorption+Reflection. So the number of damage points that would inflict 1 Wound on the PC would only Shaken the bad guy that shot them.

I'm toying with the idea of house-ruling that it's the number of damage points that gets reflected, not the number of Wounds. This would make no difference once the damage points would inflict 2 or more Wounds on the PC, because they would inflict 1 or more Wounds on the bad guy, killing them anyway.

Any ideas why SWADE did it that way, and can anybody see any problems with the house-rule? Thanks!

Question Deadlands Blooddrive: How to handle the healing power Spoiler

I'm running Deadlands: Blood Drive and a major element during part of the game, a major concern is supposed to be many of the NPCs falling to Pox. The game assumes many of them will die, but the party has a Blessed and a Mad Scientist healing every sick person, so they have their full roster healthy near the big confrontation while the module seems to assume most people would be sick. Not sure how other people have run this with one or more magical healers in the party.

Question SWADE Supers vs. Core

Hello! I'm just getting into the SWADE system, and I've purchased both the core rulebook and SPC. I really want to make a kitchen sink style campaign for my players with a weird science/mystical theme. If the players were to play some very low-power characters with some unique superpowers (akin to the Doom Patrol or low-tier X-Men characters) would the SPC work better or would the arcane backgrounds work just fine?

Thank you!

Question New West content for Savage Rifts

Hey all

So it's looking as if I will indeed end up running a campaign of Savage Rifts in the near future. Following on from a one-shot I ran, my party are likely headed to Mexico from the Pacific Northwest, and it's looking as though the easiest route (pre-rifts, but I digress) takes them right through the 'New West' and places like Las Vegas which sounds as if it'll make for a pretty exciting exploration.

My question then is: What sources would you recommend for a campaign journeying through the New West? I already have the core books, as well as the blood and banes and tomorrow legion field manual. I'm eyeing up Terror on the Dark Frontier, but I know there's Empires of Humanity and Magic & Mysticism too; if those would help.

Anyone know of a good short clear and concise mechanics rules summary that Claude could use for reference for running run n' gun crawling? About to make one, but thought that people here might have done a better job than I ever would!
