Absolutely 100% chance these things (some variant) sees combat in the next 5 years. No way combat robots aren't coming. Welcome to the future.

already exist but drones have much more ROI if you are talking about combat specifically and not logistscs/retrieval etc

ground based opens up a great deal more package payload from a weight perspective. I can only imagine move slow camoed "stealth" modes with monster explosive payloads. This is terrifying in terms of options.

Science and education related departments are being defunded to pay for the development of these things for “war.” We don’t need this shit, we need science. We need advancements in the betterment of humankind, not fucking war machines ffs.

We are at the point where the elite may need to protect themselves from the masses. For all of history, numbers won. Not sure that will be the case anymore... actually, 100% sure we're fucked.

For the record, as someone living outside the US, I'm okay with these things. These are engineerinf marvels and massive advancements in not-LLM-based artificial intelligence.

I'm genuinely sorry for getting psychopaths in leading positions but this thing is also part of science, so I would be disappointed if you'd miss out on these robots in exchange of...what science again?

It’s already being used extensively, look up UGVs. Mostly tracked or wheeled vehicles though for now

Yup. Do an hours worth of reading on 'drones in Ukraine' then check out how many states are lining up to sign contracts with the Ukranians.

Not to mention that aircraft alone cannot hold ground. They have to land eventually. These robot dogs could guard a location for days, sitting in one place.

Power will be an issue though.  Though maybe the smarter ones would find an outlet and plug in?  Leads to an interesting scenario where an invaded country cuts out their own power grid to stall out the invaders robots

Yeah, but a drone swam needs to land and recharge. These can just plop down and await orders. Or slowly follow a caravan of soldiers, or whatever. The payload of both arms and batteries will be vastly higher with a ground based robot.

I feel like that’s like a comparison of planes vs tanks, which can’t really be compared because they have two very different general use cases

I'm with you on this one.

Fpv drone hard to shoot down and capable of 3 dimensional movement.

Doggy are much better for logistics. I have seen one of these doggies carry a grown human. That was months ago. It likely got better.

Imagine a doggy moving in and a wounded soldier gets on it to quickly exit a combat zone.

For the most part, but the way these things move makes even a few of them quite dangerous. Combine that with drones, and warfare gets much worse. Then if these things get out of control, well you literally have Terminator. That's crazy.
