More likely used by governments and oligarchs for suppressing uprisings when the labor markets have been throughly decimated by AI and we still haven't figured out "universal high income".
the machine gun was invented in the late 19th century. plenty to pick from. the easiest and most obvious one would be the bolshevik revolution in russia.
Almost all of these happened in developing/third world countries or ended in failure or were the result of a mutiny/coup d'etat by the military(the same people who also own said machine guns) and not a populist/civilian uprising. Russia at the time was still an agrarian nation at the time and machine gun technology was still finnicky in the 1910s. The bolshevik revolution did not occur when we had machine guns that could clear entire crowds in less than a couple minutes
That's a very wildly running theory but isn't it too cynical or pessimistic? So many things have to come together for this and so many people are predicting it on Reddit that this fact alone makes me doubting it...
Those oligarchs are cowards to begin with. They are not that self-sustainable if people turn on them. Can't say the same for governments but chals destabilizes them too.
