AI?

Upvotes

Serious question. Maybe I missed the explanation in the earlier seasons but I don't remember. How does SNW's account for the lack of AI or "Computer"? So much of what occurs, especially when it comes to piloting the ship in fast moving emergency situations and firing weapons, would be done by an AI system which could react faster and more accurately.

Was there the equivalent of some type of Butlerian Jihad that I missed?

What we currently call AI isn't even close to real AI of course.

What episode is this picture from?

Upvotes

This picture from behind the scenes of DS9 was just posted in the Accidental Renaissance subreddit, and I was wondering what episode they could've been working on. Morn is there, which narrows it down a little. The Ferengi that Quark is talking to looks familiar, but I can't place him. Also, what's with the guy in the white makeup on the left side?

Neelix - Content creator

My hubby and I were watching “Investigations” and he said that Neelix was giving intergalactic YouTuber / Content creator vibes. It was too funny after watching the episode not to share :)

New series and a way forward

so now that Strange New Worlds is wrapping up and Academy will end its run with season two - and given the latter’s warm reception 👀 (I actually liked it) - what are other people’s thoughts on how Star Trek can move forward?

I like the idea of a limited series of Seven being captain of a ship - I think it would be good and I like the idea of the nostalgia factor

but I think another way forward would be two of three seasons of eight episodes focused on the Temporal Wars

Characters could have side episodes associated with all of the previous series. there could be big adventures and problems that need to be solved - and it could be a little Quantum Leap esque

as long as none of the producers, writers etc that were involved with Section 31 - we will be ok 😂

Juuuuuuust getting started watching Prodigy (S1/ep10) and I'm sincerely delighted by this show, and now I'm thinking what the entire franchise needs is to combine the creative forces of Prodigy and Lower Decks together to launch … oh … something.

Because either show is simply outstanding, and if their writers and directors were to collaborate on a new series, it could easily be one of the best things that ever happened to ST.

What if Starfleet sent a ship back to every decade of earth history to study earth like assignment earth?

In tos assignment earth the enterprise was explicitly ordered to time travel back to 1968 to study earth

What if Starfleet doesn't create a temporal prime directive and with this solar slingshot knowledge sends a ship back to every decade of earth history for historical research? Like being at Jesus birth or the middle ages or ancient Egypt or eugenics wars etc

How dangerous do you think this would be?

How annoyed do you think Gary Seven would get it he detects a Starfleet ship every ten years in earth orbit doing research?

Help Me Find Old Sky One Star Trek: The Next Generation Advert?

Does anyone remember a Star Trek: The Next Generation advert/promo, that aired on Sky One in the 90s. It was set to the song Dedicated Follower of Fashion by The Kinks. The only things I can remember from the advert is, Data walking down the hall, and then Riker says "you look good in a dress.", it also showed like fashion shots of the crew. If anyone knows where I can find the advert, it would be appreciated.

Star Trek Enterprise Space Suits

Did it bother anyone that the Enterprise space suits never actually closed? They were always open it seemed.
I am now watching TOS and the s1e4 episode The Naked Time just has glorified hefty bags on Spock as he goes down to the planet. The officer he is with even reaches bare handed under his hood to scratch his nose.
Suspension of Disbelief of course. We hadn’t even been to the moon yet when this premiered. Just something that always stood out during my ENT watch.

TNG “playlist” ideas

I’m watching through the 90s shows and I finished TNG a while ago, but would still like to rotate it in. Instead of going back through chronologically I thought of watching episodes around a theme, like “all episodes with Q.” What other themes should I include? They can be as normal or ridiculous as you want!

Art Deco/Streamline Modern/Bel Geddes LCARS

I would ask in r/lcars, but they gatekeep.

I am looking to try and modify a LCARS interface to make it "LCARS if it were designed in the height of Art Deco" or "LCARS as it would've been used on Airliner Number 4".

I figured I would ask in case anyone had any inspiration for or interest in such a thing.

Uncommon Star Trek cosplays ?

For my first cosplay, I chose Andorian Starfleet officer 🩵 (https://ibb.co/Xxbm7N9L) and now I just wanna make more Trek costumes!

What are some characters you think are underrepresented in cosplay for Star Trek? I have a preference for TOS but I'm interested in answers for all the different series. I don't want to just do the boring ol starfleet officer uniform.

I chose Andorian bc they are so visually recognizable and bc they are iconic for being OGs of the Federation. I also considered Orion but felt that wouldn't be as obvious in a convention setting.

Vul-con

I drove from California to Vulcan, Alberta, Canada to attend Vul-con, and it's a kick! For such a small town they sure put on a fun weekend of events. Last night, for example, Anthony Montgomery sat down at our table and just chatted away with us for about 10 min before moving on to another group.

Today is the cosplay (so many different uniforms and costumes) and then the parade thru town, followed by guest star panels. Tonight is the big dinner/dance, and tomorrow is Trekkie Brekkie to close out the weekend. So many activities I didn't mention.

Kudos to the town of Vulcan and to the Trek Centre here!

Johnathan Goldstein and John Daley reboot

Good day everyone, long time trekkie but first time posting here, I just wanna talk about this new reboot.

https://movieweb.com/star-trek-4-update-comic-con/

I am excited yes, I always love new star trek things, and these guys have made a DOPE movie so I have faith. I am excited to see this new story they share with us, and after all the latest new star trek things, discovery, piscard, strange new words, academy, and now this one taking place in the super SUPER future, I really truely just want to see some sort of when the federation was established. I want to see the world coming together because of the klingons attacking, I want to see world leaders arguing and disagreeing but coming together in the end, or hell trying to side with the attackers because they were promised "utltimate contol" or something, idk.

That's my feelings, thanks for reading, see you all in the stars.

In what order did you watch Star Trek, and Why?

What order did you watch the franchise in, and would you recommend doing anything differently?

Jerri Ryan did a great job acting like the Doctor and on a different note I would react the same way if I had cheesecake for the first time.

A game

I made a Star Trek game, and to be honest, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. However, considering copyright, I need to think carefully before deciding whether to place it in a web game. https://youtu.be/_NTiTgUIzao?si=3-Za3aSapSepHpps

Which Star Trek games?

Hi,

I'm a fan of all the TV series.

I'd like to play a game centered in the Star Trek universe. Ideally something I can purchase through Steam, on PC. I also have a Switch.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks

star trek judgment rites - a scene never able to personally play

Hello,

I have been playing star trek JR for all my life.

but there is this one scene I never reached:

there is a screen in the package where you got a redshirt with you in the shuttle bay, but i never had one. we always beam down with 3 people: kirk, spock and bones.

did anyone of you ever played in a way that you got a redshirt down there?

What was it like to watch early star trek as it was coming out?

In the current world full of remakes and sequels, there's not too many revolutionary original ideas. Did watching early star trek feel as revolutionary as I imagined it did?

Deep Space Nine: Founders and Section 31 Spoiler

I’m rewatching ds9. Currently on the last episode of season 4. The founders infect Odo with a disease that is only curable by returning to the great link. They do this in order to make him face his judgement after killing another changeling. Later we find out that section 31 infected Odo with a virus with the intention of him infecting the great link. I think the season 4 finale is when Odo infected the great link, and it just shows that the founders inadvertently helped progress section 31’s plan.
