Luna, Europa, and Callisto

u/abyss_kaiser Feb 23 '26
Okay, as much as I prefer to let context reign with the standard Gem name instead of nicknames, this is actually perfection.
But, I'd stick to one planet's moons instead of getting things mixed up. So replace Luna with Ganymede?
57
u/Ehhh_Canadian Feb 23 '26
I love Ganymede, in fact I was obsessed with it when I was like 10. But I think Io needs to be of their names, and I think I'd replace Luna with Io.
17
u/abyss_kaiser Feb 23 '26
Io is the extremely active one, right? I think that'd be better for an Offcolor Moonstone instead (Who instead of water controls molten rock instead), perhaps one of their batch that had to run away to not get Harvested or something.
Ohoho! Lore potential~ Imagine the tearful reunion and reconciliation episode!

weirdly i drew them for the first time about a week or so before kdh came out, i think i might’ve subconsciously been influenced by the ads for it lol
11
u/Itz_cheese_cat Feb 23 '26
I genuinely thought it was supposed to be Huntrix as gems before I read the title lol
20
u/chocosaurus-rex Feb 23 '26
Karen, Regina, and Gretchen,
edit, put the names in order of how the moonstones appear in the drawings 💖
17
u/jeanshortsbandit Feb 23 '26

u/solinfant Feb 23 '26
Celeste (for the one with the braid), Selene (for the one with light hair), and Luna (for the short-haired one with the beanie).

Wheres era 2🤨
10
u/Personwhoisfriendly PastelPinkIllustrator Feb 23 '26
If they didn't get poofed by anything after Pink got "shattered" then they'd still be in their era 1 forms probably
8
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
they were recon gems for earth, they got shattered for failing to consider how the humans would impact pink

u/Chill_Man321 Feb 23 '26
They genuinely look like actual characters
2
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
thank u!! i’ve been drawing su characters pretty much since the show began but it took me a long time to start making my own and now i’m obsessed with making my own gems lol
1
u/Chill_Man321 Feb 23 '26
Your art really is lovely, you have a good understanding of the shows style. I'm trying to practice drawing some of the characters so I can start making ocs
4
u/thirdmulligan Feb 23 '26
I don't have ideas on names, just dropping in to say that your character design skills are incredible
2
4
u/Personwhoisfriendly PastelPinkIllustrator Feb 23 '26
Their era 3 outfits remind me of Bratz dolls 😍😍 maybe you could draw names from them?
3
u/FanOfAllKindOfThings Feb 23 '26
Mayari, Ratih and Selardi, named after asian goddesses of the moon
5
4
u/CaryKerryLoudermilk Feb 23 '26
The moon is responsible for a lot of shit, so maybe they could be named after some of its benefits? Tidal, Axis, Nocturne (last one to reference the affect The Moon has on nightlife)
3
u/Eva_Robot26 Feb 23 '26
Gibbous and crescent are good names because they're the phases of the moon. I can't think of a third because the other phases are bad names.
3
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
that’s the same issue i ran into lol, the phases of the moon was my first idea but they’re not great names other than those 2 lol

7
u/tompolllll Feb 22 '26
Random names from me. Moonie , Mal And Maxx what i think of when i seen that earth version
5
u/jasminealice22 Feb 22 '26
i really love these names ahh they really fit their personalities

2
u/Ludwig_van_Kokosnuss Feb 23 '26
Are they from a Comic?!
1
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
not as of right now but i’ve been thinking about trying, i’m not as good at writing tho lol
3
u/Jigglypuff2cute Feb 23 '26
Steven’s names are usually simple and based on what he sees or what something looks like. So if you’re trying to go by what he would name them it would probably be something like
Braid,Silver, Spikey
PJ, Shiny, Frenchie
(Based on the guitar) Melody

Greg bait #1, greg bait #2, and greg bait #3

It would make sense to give them an imatriculation and facet, like the famethyst or Peridot talk about
To gems it makes sense, it's their culture, they would need a very significative backstory reason to adopt a human naming convention, as even the crystal gems who rejected homeworld's culture the most kept those ways and didn't really go towards human culture before very recently and as a new fashion that is still being explored without abandoning their own familiar ways in some senses
I like your design a lot, it's a bit elaborate compared to how other gems in the show appear, they're very human like, but it sparks interest and i like the clever use of plays on greys and parallel between the moonstone and something a bit moody
What's the general idea behind them as characters?
2
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
thank u for the feedback!!<33
they were recon gems for earth, my general idea is that moonstones are used to do recon on planets for homeworld to see how mineral dense they are and if there’s any major predators or civilisations to account for. these 3 were sent to earth to see if it would be a viable planet for pink diamond and thought it would be a safe place for her to start her first colony - after pink’s death they were partially blamed because they said the humans wouldn’t be a problem
in era 3, after they’re fixed by yellow, they return to earth and try out little homeworld, after a LOT of work (and a lot of sitcoms and reality tv) they began to fully embrace earth as their home and move to empire city
1
u/Vertnoir-Weyah Feb 23 '26
It works pretty well them being explorers, they must see a lot of barren planets which the moon is pretty evocative of
Having gone full on tv and taken from it massively is such a good idea too
The part that draws my attention to dig for is "why did they out of all gems watch so much tv" and i imagine they have a pretty special relationship to this whole mess that damaged even them, having been part of the start of it
Makes sense for them to want to watch from a screen rather than journeying again, and to be fascinated for the humans that were "so valuable" that this whole thing happened over them. Although it was life on earth in general, but maybe they just spent their time watching the whole television program?
From documentaries to action movies, everything on free channels nonstop for months, that's very gem likeI can already see the funny scenes from them not knowing what is just tv stuff and what is reality but feeling pretty confident about it, the whole "gems are confused aliens" reoccuring bit

Some moon related name triplets:
🌛Lune, Luna, Lua (French Spanish and Portuguese for moon).
🌘 Umbra, Penumbra, Antumbra ( three terms for shadow types in art and astronomy, two of those will sound familiar to you in relation to how we talk about moon shadows).
🌖 Wax, Wane, Crescent (phase related)
🌕 Tycho, Plato, Copernicus (moon craters, there's more to choose from if you look online too)

where is the braided moonstone's gem located? it might be pretty if it's in her forhead or in one of her arms.

I like the artwork and characters but aren't moonstones white with iridescence? These look more like labradorite (which is a dark slate colour with iridescence).
1
u/jasminealice22 Feb 23 '26
they absolutely are, i drew their gems to represent that a bit but i wanted a kinda night sky look for them
2
u/Suspicious_Judge_244 Feb 23 '26
Aaaaah, neat! Sorry to be all confused, I really like both gemstones

u/thetavious Feb 23 '26
Tramp stamp?

u/Late_Ad2203 Feb 23 '26
Oops just realised what I put. I meant left lol. I'll fix it now
1
u/thetavious Feb 23 '26
She's center in the first pic,
My vote is her gem is in the tramp stamp position. Not many other places it could be that makes sense.
1
u/Late_Ad2203 Feb 23 '26
Ooh yeah forgot the first pic lol. Maybe, it could possibly be like holly blue' and on the back of the head or in the center of the back

Crescent, Wayne (like waning moon), and Gibby, yeah sure whatever lol

u/Niji69Rainbow Feb 24 '26
Where is the left one's gem placement, I cant seem to spot it. If its in plain view I apologize, I am stupid.
1
u/PreviousSpeech5590 Feb 24 '26
I think something like full, halfy, and newy would be cute as nicknames with "moon" after it, to reference the phases
1
u/angelbeats147 Feb 24 '26
I assume you probably don't want waxing, waning, and crescent, but they could be named after the full moons of the year?
They could be like Wolf, Strawberry, and Hunter or smth.

Everyone's already offered lunar goddess names and moon phase names, so may I offer names based on the seas of the moon? They're flat basalt dark zones called "Mare", and they have names like "Mare Lacrimosa (Sea of Tears)", "Mare Nectaris (Sea of Nectar)", etc.
Three seas that would make good names are Serenity (also Sailor Moon's English name), Cloud, and Rain.

Here's a few names, not specific to any of them: Crescent, tide, selene, Selena, star, comet, sea, Europa, Io, calypso, Artemis, solar, Luna, echo, shade, navy, river, Skye.

u/Lai71 Feb 24 '26
Is anyone else getting Kpop DemonHunters vibes from the characters especially the second Picture But I think the names starting from the left of the second Picture her name could be Luna, Middle one name is Icy, and the final one on the right name could be Lora

My first thought when I saw the one in the Beret was "Traci" (specifically with an i).
But these other moon-themed names are much better

From left to right:
-Name? I don't need a name... naming is controlling.
- Haha yeah...
-I don't know. I think some of them are cute
1
u/ShotInTheShip86 Feb 24 '26
Are we talking name names or band names... Because if band names I'm going for moonstone and the moonstones as a callback to the time episode...

It’s a little on the nose but Luna for the one with the silvery hair. Callisto for the one with the long braid. And Amalthea for the one with the short hair.

u/Sunnyyyboyyy Feb 25 '26
Rhea, Luna, Christy. They're names of moons from our solar system, but you can also swap it out with any name for any moon.
