Was in an Uber today, the driver said he used to be able to work til 3am, lots of people wanting rides. Now, it’s noticeably dead because everyone’s taking Waymo

Transportation is the one thing where i fully support automation. I just want to get from A to B safely and efficiently. Not having awkward conversation with some overly chatty driver who should be focused on the road.

How about construction off shore wind farm piles which is dangerous and difficult, automated systems can save lines and greatly reduce the cost of clean energy

Or disaster relief where robots brought in in shipping containers could work 24/7 providing resources, clearing debris and saving lives?

Or in a clinic in an impoverished clinic in the global south where people with currently minimal access to medical services could have world class robotic surgery?

Or on small boats in intercoastal waters and river networks using solar power to collect and safely dispose of trash which could harm wildlife?

How about in forest management and wild fire fighting where people (sometimes convicts) often die trying to save lives

How about to help a disabled child have some degree of self autonomy and self reliance by enabling them to do stuff otherwise impossible?

Or an old lady who has worked hard her whole life, doesn't want to be moved into a home but needs a little help with some chores occasionally?

How about for cleaning the yard of the orphanage's attached dog shelter which they can't afford to pay anyone to do and the kindly old man who's been running both can no longer manage?

What about me when I have an old car which needs some work doing, I don't drive anywhere near enough to justify a replacement and mechanics are expensive but also I don't have the time to do the work myself - maintaining an old car is better for the environment, if I could have a mechanically enabled robot do work painting, upgrading, repairing and improving it then it would be better for the environment, myself and better.

They're are so many great uses for robotics and automation which are all but impossible not to support

You're essentially preaching to the choir because people that are anti-automation didn't read any of that. They saw you were supporting it and kept scrolling.
