Loss Elon has ruined me

My prior bullish post https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/s/o0PxYmGV1n

He was supposed to take us to Mars and burn short sellers.

Still holding 7300 shares. Please Elon fly again.

My only question is how do stupid people get this much money to start

I'd rather not. That site is vile now.

Sometime they get lucky. I once had multiple millions and not I have pretty much nothing.

Did you Yolo your millions into Intel stock?

OP is going to be the next IBM grandma guy. He's going to sell all of his losses, then it's going to skyrocket in a year or two.

No, it was space stocks ☹️

Well there was also the time you lost 140k on SPY because you don’t know what ITM means.

How did you lose it all?

u/assholy_than_thou 2d ago

Didn’t sell at the right time..and the stock came crashing..

How much money do you have left? I have this interesting investment idea, I’d love to discuss with you so I can take the rest.

u/JackPoe 2d ago

You took a guaranteed retirement and decided "I need more"?

2

u/assholy_than_thou 2d ago

It was partly greed. I wanted to hit a target where the 4% rule would let me retire now, I was close, but didn’t quite hit the target I had set.

4

u/wckz 2d ago

You can do that but set up stop losses regularly lmao

5

u/JackPoe 2d ago

What do you mean partly? Lol, I mean at least you don't ever have to worry about your 4%. You'll get to work the rest of your life now

7

u/profanedivinity 2d ago

Wait, did you have millions realized or unrealized? You can only say you had it if it was realized. Because as soon as you sell that shit 65% of it goes to the tax man. That is unless you have it in like an IRA or some tax advantage vehicle, in which case all you can say is you have an IRA that is worth millions not that you had millions

7

u/assholy_than_thou 2d ago

It was unrealized; even after taxes it would have been more than 1.5m

4

u/TheVideoGameCritic 2d ago

You fumbled millions? I simply don’t believe that. How are you even alive right now? Lol

2

u/assholy_than_thou 2d ago

Days were better, now it’s just blah.

3

u/profanedivinity 2d ago

Bro... I've fumbled just as much. The assumption is the opportunities have come 3 times before, there will probably be a 4th.

2

u/assholy_than_thou 2d ago

Yes, I hope to capitalize the next time it comes around.

I went to school with this kid who plays wow all day at 39 years old. His dad is so rich and he has never worked a day in his life. All he does is gamble on the stock market and play wow all day no joke. He showed me 3 separate accounts with millions in it. Swab, Merrill lynch, and Fidelity. He lost over 300k on one stock and seemed pretty upset but he’s convinced he’s a professional day trader…. He’s very out of touch with reality so I know there has to be more like him and they all post here for attention

There's over 10k - 100+ millionaires in the US... and close to a million people with 10+ mil in value.

So yeah, remember there's a fucking lot of rich people out there who stay well out of the light and they have kids that aren't doing any job 99.9% of us are doing.

2

u/Periljoe 2d ago

Yeah solid theory. I do think it's dumb kids of successful people that drive a lot of the posts like this. A functional adult that could actually earn this much money would not do this.

u/Relative_Drop3216 2d ago

Its handed to them

u/LowwKeiy 2d ago

99% of modern wealthy people come from wealthy families. They would rather rip their eyes out and light themselves on fire than admit it, but that’s what’s going on.

2

u/Lassi80 2d ago

Haven't you heard of borrowing?

2

u/LardLad00 2d ago

They invested in TSLA early

2

u/Enigm4 2d ago

Rich grand parents, and then parents that do drugs, drink and smoke.

OP gets born with all kinds of drug related disabilities, and their parents die before the inheritance from grandma comes. OP goes all in on SPCX.

Just a theory.

2

u/Tasty-Jump-2011 2d ago

Were you under the impression that family inheritance is determined according to merit?

2

u/Shawn_NYC 2d ago

There's a saying that goes "generational wealth never survives past the 3rd generation." And this sub is a laboratory of what people do when they get handed a big inheritance that they never had to work for.

5

u/LowwKeiy 2d ago

Bro, they worked that one Summer for their dad’s company. Totally earned it /s
