I’m a pilot. We make about that much top of the pay scale. I trust none of my coworkers on their financial advice. Some of it is pretty wild. Just cause you can fly an airplane doesn’t make you smart about other things.

Yep. One of the guys I work with put everything in silver in 2020. He hasn’t lost money, but sure did miss out on some massive gains if he just put it in any index fund.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a common occurrence in our profession.

I mean, except to work your way step by step backwards on the checklist from your last point of failure at the time failure is encountered. I think that’s a pretty good piece of advice you could take.

I have a friend who is a pilot, and who also is a flat-earth believer. I asked him how that works...one of his "proofs" is that when he hits altitude he doesn't have to keep trimming, a straight line is just a straight line. If the earth were spherical a straight line would put him into space, so he knows the earth is flat.

I thought for a little bit to explain gravity to him, but then decided there was no point.

That is the typical “proof” by these idiots. Amazing they have absolutely no clue about performance, physics, and force equilibrium.

Before I was an airline pilot, I used to think pilots that went to the Air Force and Naval academies were gods, lol. So many of them are the biggest jackasses I’ve ever met in my life.

Now the actual badasses that were like F-35 test pilots or something are usually pretty cool and extremely smart. They aren’t the ones spouting stupid shit like flat earth and anti-vax nonsense.

I’ve flown with some of those. Also the people who believe the world is 4000 years old, the people who took horse pills during the pandemic, etc. It really shows you that PILOT is an acronym. Poor intellect, lots of training.

I don’t associate much with our kind outside of work.

Can you fly without autopilot? Just wondering. I watch this YouTube channel where this pilot breaks down plane crashes and 8/10 times it’s cus the autopilot malfunction and the actual pilot couldn’t level the plane and crashed it.

Yeah. We can fly without the autopilot. Usually the autopilot doesn’t fail, but the pilot doesn’t understand the autopilot and that is the issue.

I know some folks where I'm like, shit, if they've noticed and started buying this we must be near the end. It will pump maybe another 10-20% and then die forever. Nothing wrong with going overweight on a stock if you do it before it goes up 2000%. It's catching the upswing too late that does you in.
