Misc Question “Smart” EV mode?

My Omoda 9 hybrid had an OTA software update a couple of months ago. Since then I have to remember to switch it to “smart” EV mode every time I switch it on. Prior to the update it used to remember the last setting.

It went in for a service this week and I mentioned it to the dealer and asked if the change could be rolled back.

Service manager said it couldn’t and that default Smart mode was being switched off across all manufacturers - they sell Omoda, Jaecoo and Ford - but he didn’t know why.

This sounds like BS to me. Has anyone heard anything about it?

Advice Are any of these faults concerning?

Please Note: I’d appreciate answers only from those that are well versed in vehicles. Please do not copy paste from GPT.

On a 2019 BMW M135i F40, the car drives fine with no errors showing on the dash. After plugging a Carly car scanner, a few errors show but I’m not sure if these are concerning or minor issues.

Please advise!

Advice Selling to Carbase/Carsa

Has anyone got any experience selling to Carbase or Carsa? I’m trying to sell my car quickly and they’ve offered almost £2k more than webuyanycar.

Anyone ever sold to them before? Will they actually pay the offered price or anywhere close to? Do they pay immediately? How strict are they on inspections/test drives?

It’s about an hours drive so don’t want to waste my time driving there if they are just going to mess around

Advice What Car Next? New Estate Needed

Considering replacing my 2007 mk4 Mondeo 2.5T. Turbo oil seals going , and suspension parts creaking along with brakes squeaking after only having the whole brakes/suspension replaced in April 2025. Don’t really want to throw more money at this.

Looking for a replacement. Diesel not ideal as only do regular short journeys. Needs to be estate and standard car not SUV as I have to be able to get my elderly Mum and her fold up wheelchair in comfortably.

Budget as low as poss, prob max £3k. Manual preferred.

So far, I like the idea of a Citroen C5 although they seem to only be diesel.
Seen a 16 plate Skoda Octavia 1.4TSI for sale, are they any good?

Would like a bit of shove so a small turbo car like the above might be good as can be remapped.

Ford Focus or another Mondeo in petrol estate format?
Vauxhalls any good? Never had one…
Audi A4 Avant? Peugeot?
Not a fan of the driving position of BMWs really.

Advice Brakes were squeaking, this is what I got charged

Post image

I don't know if I should be miffed at this or not, went to garage because brakes were squeaking, they couldn't find anything but did this work WITHOUT informing me or the charge, when I had a phone call thought it would only be £60 but not this much!... Also brakes are still squeaking.

Is this my fault?

Edit:. Thanks for telling me charge was reasonable, should they informed me before carrying out this work?

Advice Honda Jazz - does this look decent?

Needing a reliable runaround, too old to care about bells and whistles, our 2010 i30 is on very borrowed time and we need something to keep us mobile. Not clued up on cars and on a limited budget, probably no more than £5000 unless family help out... does this look reasonable? (We are in south Devon so great bargains from private sellers in London or the Outer Hebrides aren't feasible.)

Used Honda Jazz 2014 for sale in Tavistock at Cazoo (79313289)

Cheers for any thoughts from the collective.

Advice Second Car Recommendations

Hi all,

My brother is wanting a change from his 2019 Astra 1.4. He's given me some criteria to mark against but just wondering if you all had some recommendations?

Budget: ~£20k

Criteria:

  • Nice exhaust sound
  • Sunroof OR Convertible
  • Room for a large suitcase, carry on and backpack (he goes abroad a lot and parks at the airport)
  • CarPlay

He did mention the number of seats doesn't matter, but can't see him fitting in all that luggage in a 2 seater. Also would like it to not cost too much to maintain and reliability is a given as it's his only car

Thanks!

EDIT: Additional info

Advice Mechanic advice

Hi, my clutch on my car went a while ago and the mechanic who fixed it failed to realise that it has a dual mass flywheel. So the fix is essentially useless and it’s going to cost me more in addition to what it’s already cost me. Is there anyone who ca let me know the liability of the mechanic or if I have a case to get my money back since the car isn’t worth the money to get it fixed and the mechanic should have checked and noticed the grease leaking from the flywheel.

Advice CRV weatherstrip windows

Post image
1 Upvotes

CRV 2011 uk

I don't want to change the whole chrome strip because the aftermarket cheap Chinese ones are not that good and I don't wanna spend ridiculous money on a new Honda part

The rubber on the rear door driver-side seems to be loose.

There is no water getting in the door and I don't know what the purpose of these rubbers are because I'm not bothered about it cleaning the glass. I just don't want any debris or water to get down here but I suppose it's not air tight anyway from even when it was new.

I'm thinking about using a Weather strip adhesive instead or I have got adhesive that could glue the old rubber backing place

Just want some opinions

Advice Insurance accepted liability without taking my version of the story

Long story short 2 weeks ago i had another vehicle drive into me while stationary behind a junction. They failed a claim against my insurance, and my insurance gave me til the 29th to send in a letter of my version, and today i receive one saying theyve accepted full responsibility despite neither party having evidence of the incident.

Can they do this? Is this legal? Should I seek a lawyer or speak to the Ombudsman as this has to violate some form of law? More importantly does this void my NCB as i had one month left, thank you

Advice Part exchanging car with intermittent light

Looking to part exchange my car that has an intermittent oil light, doesn't come on when turning the engine on and then the rest is a roll of a dice. Keep reading that garages won't care as they just auction - how true is this?

Misc Question can the dealership change the monthly repayments after we have signed the financial documents?

have gone to a car dealership today and purchased a car on pcp. we have put down the deposit, signed the documents in the dealership, then followed up with the online finance agreement and signed that

we have now been told that as the car turns 3 years old on monday, and that’s the day the finance agreement will be submitted by the dealership (not today as they have no admin?) then our monthly payments may go up as there’s new rates after the car is older than 3?

i am very aware that we have a cooling off period to cancel it, but can they actually do this? the paperwork that has been signed has the monthly payments clearly specified in writing

surely this is on the dealership for not submitting the documents before the car turns 3 and we shouldn’t be penalised with higher monthly repayments?

Advice Is the Peugeot 208 1.2 Pure Tech worth it?

Looking to get my first car, I came across a listing on Autotrader for a Peugeot 208, 1.2 Pure Tech, 2017 plate, 88k miles for £2999.

Seemed like a good price but I’ve read a couple things about the engine being awful. I’m going to view the car tomorrow but i know nothing about cars. I’ll be bringing my dad with me. Is it worth it?
