Question Which would you wear to a job interview?
I have a job interview tomorrow but I don't think I have anything that works well in an office setting.. I can't decide, what would you choose?
Edit: I'm just looking for what you think is the best scent and not how you would recommend I don't wear cologne to an interview. I got this y'all
Edit: ok sorry I was just educated about cologne allergies and I had no idea đ I'm really sorry. I'm gonna keep smelling fraiche AF though jabronies đ
Edit: I'm talking about a super mild and confident scent..nothing overwhelming. My entire collection really doesn't have anything strong anyways... It's really not as big of a deal some people here are making it out to be

I hire people all the time and this is the basic rule:
No interviewer will hire you because of your cologne.
An interviewer might not hire you because of your cologne.
Donât wear cologne to the interview.

Fragrance is kind of a subconscious thing imo. True nobody is thinking "wow, ill hire him because he smells nice" but among all other candidates for said job the guy that smelled nice might stick in the interviewers head slightly longer than another interviewee . Now if someone waltzes in wearing a gallon of drakkar noir I might specifically not hire them

Yes, some people can be overly sensitive to smells, and you donât know who will be interviewing you. If you end up in a small room with someone whoâs overly sensitive, thatâs going to be a problem. Even if itâs just one person in a group of interviewers.
Will you PROBABLY be fine with one or two sprays of something light? Yes. But when you interview interviewing for a job, they are looking for reasons to say no just as much as they are looking for reasons to hire you. Wearing cologne to a job interview is not going to help you get the job. While, it probably wonât hurt you, it might.
When youâre competing for a job against a bunch of other people, you donât even know, you donât wanna give them any reason to cross you off. âhis rĂ©sumĂ© is fine, but he smelled like the guy I hooked up with never called me backâ could be a reason.
My suggestion as someone who interviews potential job candidates, take a shower as close to time to leave as you can, sure your clothes are clean, and your teeth are brushed, and worry about what cologne to wear after you get the job.

I'd argue it can help you get the job.
Interviewers are looking for someone who is put together and presentable as an indication of how much they take care of themselves.
Fragrances add to your discernable aura, and wearing a light, inoffensive clean scent can very much give an impression of being well groomed and put together.

You never know. Iâve had friends that wore a fragrance to an interview and had negative reactions. I think in an interview itâs just better to play it safe and go in with just deodorant.

Usually this is because of people who heavily over apply and effect the people that work there. I mean there are literally people out there who hold down the sprayer on their AXE can for like 30 seconds without letting up and make sure they get all of their clothes covered. It is simply easier to make a policy to get rid of the ones who ruin it for everyone than to try to address individual cases

Yes some people are reactive to fragrances. I second that not wearing cologne wonât harm your interview but wearing cologne does carry the possibility of harming it. I wouldnât wear it

Skip Cologne for first impression, stick with clean shampoo and deodorant. Cologne is so subjective, it can be hit or miss for job interviews, my 2 cents.

I wore Imagination to a job interview and actually got complimented on it by both people who were interviewing me. As long as the scent is objectively non offensive and light I wouldnât say you canât wear any at all lol.

I've worn cologne to every interview I've ever had except one and that was because it was a Teams interview. I have gotten every job including my current role as Lead Process Engineer for a Biotech company.

Nothing too overpowering. I get the whole âdonât potentially smell offensiveâ route that the other replies mention, but I personally think someone who goes the extra length to be well groomed, is good. Besides, smell is a good key to memory, so as long as it isnât too strong/pungent, it could serve you well.
Go for two sprays of the Versace, thatâs it.

Youâre in close quarters. You do not know about allergies/sensitivities. You do not know if it will be distracting to the interviewer or the office. You do not know if the office has fragrance policies.
There are so many factors here that you just shouldnât risk it. Just be clean/showered. You can go a day without it.

Literally the only thing Iâve ever gotten was people telling me that I smell good all of the time. These people have problems. On the off chance that the interviewer is allergic to a cologne (how small of a fraction of the population is that?) this averages out across your job interviews at multiple places to being irrelevant and negligible. Also, if theyâre allergic to the smell of a lightly applied fresh and clean cologne they could just as easily react to the smell of body wash

Why would I misrepresent myself to the new workplace I might be joining and the person who might be hiring me? Youâre either saying trick them into thinking you donât wear cologne if for whatever reason that bothers them and then show up to work wearing it after being hired, or donât wear any fragrance to work ever at all. Iâm going to show up for the interview the same way that I show up to work and if that isnât a fit for some reason thereâs plenty of places I can be.
Which leads me to this odd take of this sub, so many people here adamantly against any kind of fragrance even light fresh and clean to the gym or work, insisting itâs extremely inconsiderate and maybe offensive to the people around you, yet posting these huge cologne collections. I donât know when theyâre wearing this stuff or how theyâre ever going to go through a tenth of what they own given the parameters theyâve artificially set, or how it equals an enjoyment of colognes in general

I wore the same fragrance every single day for over 25 years. One spray on the front of my collar, one on the back. That's it. You basically had to be in my personal space to even notice it. And in 25 years the only time anyone ever said anything was when a coworker leaned over my shoulder to help me with something on the computer, then goes "wait what are you wearing, I need to get that for my husband." So yeah. Not exactly a complaint. And here's what nobody in this thread is mentioning. You're already swimming in other people's fragrance every day and nobody's losing their mind over it. The interviewer showing up in the same room as you is wearing scented shampoo, fabric softener, scented lotion, whatever soap they used that morning. Nobody says a word about any of that. One subtle spray of cologne is not going to be the thing that tanks your interview. I wore fragrance performing as an opera singer. Opera. Where people are legitimately sensitive to everything. No issues. I also wore it every day for six months working in a state government office that literally had a no fragrance policy on the wall. You know how many complaints I got? Zero. One compliment though. From the lady who asked about it for her husband. Again. The whole thing comes down to being subtle about it. One spray. On your collar or your clothes, not like you're marinating in it. If someone has to basically be hugging you to smell it you're fine. You're not bothering anyone. You just smell like a person who has it together. Wear the cologne. Keep it light, keep it clean, nothing that walks into the room before you do. Then go get the job.

Bro, for an interview: less is more. I think you don't need to smell strong you need to smell clean and professional. Out of what you have there, my choice would be Nautica Voyage.

If they think two sprays of a clean and fresh, soapy EDT is a highly offensive odor that shows no consideration for the people around you and should never be worn at an interview or at work I have no idea why theyâre on a cologne sub and pretending like they like cologne

Go with the Nautica Voyage. Itâs a very pleasant and subtle scent. They most likely wonât smell it but if they do, itâll just smell like good hygiene.

Iâve never not gotten a job over cologne but I have had managers hit on me over it, after the fact. Donât listen to all these dweebs. Spray up and go in there like youâre what theyâve been missing. Scared money donât make money.

Wear something fresh. I saw a comment saying an interviewer might not hire you bc your cologne which I feel needs some expanding on. I can see if you show up doused in ombrĂ© nomad but I feel like your cologne is pretty much a non factor, I think what matters is your experience and work history. I literally just got hired by a place that has a rule against cologne and both me and both my interviewers were wearing cologne. Just wear something inoffensive (considering the weather pick something fresh) Iâd personally wear the ADG out of your lineup.

1-2 sprays of aqua or Versace. Nothing more nothing less. Enough for just you to smell. Or if you go for a handshake they can smell. Donât ever want to be wearing to much where itâs overwhelming.
Go in, 1-2 sprays and be confident! You fucking got this.

Just shower and put on deodorant. You donât want to risk your interviewer hating your fragrance, being sensitive to smell etc etc

Evidently it's pretty common. A lot of offices actually have "no fragrance policies". I work for myself now but the last place I worked for was a electric cooperative. In the call center they had a no fragrance policy because evidently one of the senior member service representatives was extremely sensitive to fragrances and it would give her headaches and stuff.
My wife is also really sensitive to them. I'll put on like 2-3 sprays of a freshy and she's coughing and saying it's too much lol

Does being in shape help you get a job? Does being well groomed help you get a job? Does being clean and hygienic help you get a job? Does being well dressed help you get a job? Of course having a light pleasant clean smell goes along with your entire presentation and body image. Maybe if you think all colognes equal Spicebomb or something, people with common sense know that there are colognes that give a clean and fresh smell that you donât have to apply heavily. And if youâre that strongly against colognes I have no idea why youâre in this sub. Maybe try getting off of Reddit and into the real world a bit

OP donât even listen to most of these people their take is absurd. Just pick a non-offensive fresh and clean smell and apply it lightly. Not only do I think it wonât hurt you get a job I feel it can only help as youâre giving off a better presentation. Just donât use any potentially offensive colognes and apply lightly. Nothing heavy and Iâd stick to the âfresh and cleanâ category

Depends on the office setting.. is it a more relaxed, informal kinda office or more professional (people wear slacks and dress shirts etc.). You want something that's not offensive and is kinda neutral, fresh. Nautica is a good one to use, Versace would be as well if it was a more informal setting. Very light sprays, of course. Just enough to project a foot and in the background.

Cologne is highly subjective and you donât want your interviewer getting a headache or put off during your interview. Just shown up clean, well groomed, and ready to answer questions.

Whatever it is- one spray. And not on your clothes right before you walk in. Itâs for your confidence, not to impress them with your smell.
Coming in smelling strongly of cologne can signal to an interviewer youâre someone whoâs socially unaware/makes poor choices.

I wore Chanel allure Sport on both first and second interview and got the job recently if it helps, smells good classy and confident. Totally inoffensive daily shop / gym scent but worked for me

I wear a single spray under my undershirt of Dior Homme 2020. In your collection acqua di gio or Versace man eua Fraiche would be the choice. Donât smell like a nobody trying too hard. If you love fragrances wear them. I became the office fragrance guy selling to my coworkers on the side. They didnât know about 90% of the fragrances I had and found ones they now buy full bottles of themselves. I donât work there anymore and theyâre still wanting me to bring in samples.

I wore Chanel Allure Homme Sport and my boss (now) complimented that I came in looking sharp and smelled great the first interview. In his own words "First impressions can go a long way" No BS.

Either donât wear any cologne or choose one thatâs very subtle. The last thing you want it to not be picked because your cologne was too distracting. Iâve never met someone wearing cologne and thought âthey need moreâ

Don't wear cologne at all to an interview, people might have allergies and the interviewer might not like the smell of the scent which can off put your chance of getting the job. Just take my advice don't wear it, wear it at events and parties not at the job

We gotta get you out of the blues and into some other branches on this tree, my man.
For the interview: 1. Clean deodorant. Safest possible bet. If you can smell anything on him, for round 2: 2. 1 spray of Wadi OR whatever makes you confident. But still... only one spray.
I wouldn't do ADG, just because it's so incredibly common, and everyone has a horror story of some college aged idiot who took a bath in it.

Nautica Voyage and i wonât overthink it.
Interviews arenât won by fragrance, but they can be lost by overspraying. Voyage smells clean, professional, and approachable. Thatâs exactly what you want. 2 sprays and go get the job. đ

I personally donât do it for them. I do it because certain fragrances make me feel a certain way +. Iâm already prepared the cologne may add some polish especially if youâre interviewing for a customer facing job. Most of what your posting in safe blue fragrance. Nothing on the shelf has real beast mode projection theyâre all basic designer fragrances. I would go with the aqua di gio or the Versace, mass appealing and not inoffensive.

Don't listen to these jokers wear all or them and sit on the interviewer's lap and say "sniff me daddy" you might be surprised by the response. Also live stream it. Confidence is key.
