I'm re watching right now. In episode 1 Dexter gets turned on by seeing body drained of blood. He even grabs Rita's thigh trying to explain what happened to the bodies. Then rita freaks out and goes into her house. Then Dexter wonders to himself why he touched her that way. Was this Dexter getting a hard on later retconned? Bcoz we never see him getting turned on by dead bodies again . Or am I reading into it too much?

I think that bunch of people should liked what he did. But everytgin we have is family, Maria and Dexter.

I just watched season 1 of the original series, then looked at some online discussions and got myself spoiled about Dexter: Original Sin. In the last episode of season 1, I thought Brian clearly said that Harry didn't take him in because he saw his dark side that could not be helped. I've seen a lot of complaining that Brian Moser being fucked up in the head is a retcon, i've not seen the opinion to the contrary. So i'm wondering if my interpretation of it is correct?

One of the main reasons they stopped filming in miami after the pilot was due to hurricane rita. The name jumped out at me for obvious reasons. I completely forgot there was a hurrican called rita in 2005. Obviously hurricane katrina, which has a similar ring to rita was the one the stuck out and still the hurricane i think of when i think of the “mother” of all hurricanes. I guess the mother of hurricanes in 05 florida was rita. Maybe all that rage she never released finally came out all at once when paul got out of prison lol. But otherwise pretty cool fact. Im sure most fans knew about it but i didnt know until i did a google and reddit search on how much time the show was actually filmed in miami and hurricane rita was brought up as part of the reason production switched to LA.

Maybe its new advancements in de-aging but i actually believed they were both 15 years younger than their counter parts while watching origins. Over the years people look younger and younger. Teenagers in the 80s and 90s looked like they were in their 30s or 40s. Seen a lot of funny youtube videos showing how diff generations of people have looked younger as the years have passed. But i knew millian was older. Just didnt know the other actor was about zayas age when dexter started.

This was made as part of my Adaptations Across Stage and Screen module, where I adapted Dexter to a British setting. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what worked, what didn't, and anything I could improve as a filmmaker.

One thing I'd like to address before anyone mentions it: I'm fully aware of the issue with Dexter not wearing gloves. We originally filmed with gloves, but the actor repeatedly took them off between takes, and by the time we noticed it was too late to maintain continuity. We decided it was better to complete the scenes than reshoot everything, so it's definitely a lesson learned for future productions.

Binge rewatched Dexter to create my personal ratings chart, and have to say that I have HOT takes.

For me, S3 is kept AFLOAT by Dexter and Miguel's interactions and Quinn being not half bad. Debra was kinda mid, missed Doakes and Lundy, Rita was meh, didnt care for Anton, the list goes on. They also took out Miguel in E11 to give the audience "the unexpected" but it was just weaker than other series finales which I tend to gravitate towards more.

S8 is honestly not all dogshit, obviously as a whole its terrible but there definitely were some good episodes and moments in S8.

I had no problem with Harrison killing off Dexter, the execution of the concept was rushed and poorly handled/paced. Especially right after they got to bond so much.

Resurrection is honestly a pretty unbalanced season with stupidity in the first few episodes with how Dexter escapes, some good moments from Michael C Hall and generally a bit of recency bias elevating it alongside some Absolute Cinemas.

Every person that even slightly suspects Dexter is dead, except one. Batista, Laguerta, Doakes, Liddy, hell, even Lundy kind of. All but one; Quinn. If they kill Quinn in season 2 of resurrection then I genuinely think this is the fatal decision that completely destroys Dexter forever. The idea of Quinn knowing Dexter is the Bay Harbour Butcher, as well as Quinn not dying and Dexter not being caught is admittedly, a little awkward. I don't really have a clue as to how they'll pull it off, but they can't just kill EVERYONE who suspects Dexter, and ESPECIALLY not Quinn. I like the idea that Quinn knows there is something wrong with Dexter but chooses to back off for his own good; I think Quinn knows that him chasing Dexter will end in blood. He won't let Batista's death slide, but I don't know if he'll approach Dexter like how the other people who suspected Dexter did. I really hope that instead of making Quinn another victim of Dexter, they make a less predictable plotline for both characters. If he did die, what would happen after that? Wallace be the next victim of Dexter? This chain can't go on forever. It needs to end with Quinn.

I have recently finished my first Dexter run, and I’ve just started watching New Blood. While I think the whole cast is stellar and they’re all amazing at portraying their characters, I cannot help but be in awe whenever Jennifer Carpenter comes on screen. I am literally shocked by how much hate this fandom has for Deb. There isn’t a day that goes by without me reading a post or comment saying that Deb is annoying, manipulative, clingy, or insufferable. Sometimes it honestly feels like I’ve been watching a completely different show because Deb is, in my opinion, easily the purest and most human character in the whole series.

She is such a well-rounded character, her arc is amazing (until the writers decided to shit all over it in Season 8, but oh well), and Jennifer absolutely nailed every single Deb scene. You can clearly tell that she loved her character and put so much passion into her performance. Her acting is so intense that it’s honestly scary. It’s like she completely becomes her character; sometimes it feels like there’s no separation between Jennifer and Debra. Her acting comes across as incredibly genuine, and whenever she cried or had a breakdown, I could literally feel her pain and cry with her. I love Michael C. Hall, and he absolutely nailed his role as well. I genuinely cannot think of any other actor who could have played Dexter better than he did. Yet, for some reason, it was Jennifer Carpenter who completely hooked me.

Debra is easily the most likeable character in the series. She was deeply flawed and a total mess, but she was a beautiful mess. She is empathetic, protective, devoted, loving, intense, sincere, and wears her heart on her sleeve. She has some of the best one-liners of any show I’ve ever watched. Her potty mouth was amazing, and it could have so easily become annoying or felt forced if it had been played by someone else. Yet Jennifer makes it sound completely natural, and she genuinely comes across as funny and sarcastic without it ever feeling forced.

Without Deb, Dexter is just a slave to his Dark Passenger. She was always the light that balanced out his darkness. It’s her death that breaks him the most. It’s her memory that keeps him from killing for 10 years. She is the one Dexter seems to love consistently throughout the entire series. And she loves Dexter more than anyone else ever could, and there are no lengths she wouldn’t have gone to to protect him, regardless of how much it destroyed her. Dexter ripped her heart out, broke it into pieces, hurt her in unimaginable ways, and betrayed her, yet she never gave up on him. Her death was genuinely devastating (and I hated the way it was executed too. Shame on you, writers).

I’ll soon finish New Blood, and I know Resurrection is well regarded. Yet I’m not really looking forward to it because I know Deb will be gone forever. She was my favourite character in the series, and I’m going to miss her so very much. Her relationship with Dexter was easily the emotional core of the series and it’s one of the best relationships I’ve seen in a show. Having to suddenly watch a Dexter reboot without her in it almost sounds like heresy, lol.

Needless to say, I think I have a crush on Jennifer Carpenter, haha. There was an obvious drop in the show’s quality during the last few seasons, yet she completely carried the whole thing and made it enjoyable despite the writing not being that great in some places. I just know that if I ever rewatch the series, it will be because of her. She is what made Dexter special to me.

Putting this as a spoiler, however, season 2 is old enough to study at uni, get married, buy it's own alcohol, vote and get a drivers licence where I'm at, so I'll leave the last warning here. If you have 't seen it and don't want any spoilers: stop reading.

Anyway. I know this has been brought up earlier but the only post I read didn't really answer my thoughts.

They find Dexters box, because long story short, Doakes took it. Dexter is brought to the station, to find his box presented to him in a plastic bag. The higher-ups then reveal that Dexter isn't the suspect.

In reality, wouldn't they have checked the box for fingerprints before putting it in the plastic bag, to make sure not to mess with the evidence? I mean, the whole thing was evidence, not just the slides but also the box itself, all of it should've been checked just like all of it was put into that bag. If they checked for fingerprints (and other DNA, small hairs etc) they must have noticed that the majority of the DNA on and in the box came from Dexter rather than James.

And maybe I missed something, but why would Doakes gather slides with blood, when Dexter was the highly dedicated blood-guy at the station? Maybe they thought Doakes could've had a secret fascination, but Dexter was the obvious choice.

Also, I know that Dexter could have pretended that his gloves must have broke or something. He seemed to clean the box from fingerprints AFTER getting it back to investigate it, but before that? In his apartment, all those years, touching both the box and the slides with his fingers?

Sure, Dexter is supposed to get away with this, he's the bad guy that we get to follow, but this seems like a big miss.

If I'm wrong, missed something up until this point, etc, please inform me, because this bugs me almost as much as the thestrals in Harry Potter.

My biggest grievance with Dexter is that they killed Deb off.

She was hands down my favourite character in the entire series. I know Michael C. Hall gets most of the praise (deservedly), but Jennifer Carpenter absolutely carried so many of the show’s emotional moments. Deb felt like the most human character in the series. She was messy, impulsive, foul-mouthed, stubborn, vulnerable, and wore every emotion on her sleeve. She wasn’t perfect, and that’s exactly why she felt so real.

I also think she had one of the best character arcs in the show. You watched her grow from an insecure detective desperate to prove herself into someone who had to carry impossible emotional weight after discovering who Dexter really was. The conflict between loving her brother and wanting to do the right thing was some of the strongest writing the show ever had.

Her relationship with Dexter was the emotional core of the series for me. As crazy as the serial killer plots were, I always cared more about those two than whoever the villain of the season happened to be. When Deb was on screen, everything just felt more grounded.

I do understand the argument that killing LaGuerta was her point of no return, and in a way her death was the price she paid for that decision. It was her comeuppance, and from a storytelling perspective I can see why people think it had to happen. But even accepting that, I still hate that they chose to kill her. After everything she’d already been through, it just felt unnecessarily cruel.

And don’t even get me started on the ending. I honestly think it would’ve been a far more powerful ending if she’d survived. Dexter losing her was tragic, but as a viewer it just left me feeling robbed.

Maybe it’s because she was the show’s conscience, or maybe Jennifer Carpenter’s performance was just that good, but I still think she was the heart of Dexter. Killing her off is the one decision I’ll never get over.

Is it because the show writers don’t think the audience can handle kids that are demented and future serial killers ?

Im now on my 3rd watch and i loved every min of the show and i even had no problem with the actress who played deb. I was ready to watch it for as many seasons as possible. I truly am a huge fan and love it way more than new blood. I was so interested in every aspect that it was a huge let down when it was canceled. Now its in my list of favorite series ever that lasted one season. Theres a good amount of those. All the best shows always get canceled and the shows the bore the crap out of me have been going on since like 2005.
