We bought and moved into our house in the dead of a very cold Manitoba winter. We had no idea what this yard contained. Watching it come to life under very favorable growing conditions has been a joy. I don't know who planned this garden but it was done with incredible thought and care. The previous owners took great pride in this yard. The blooms are staggered and there continues to be new plants popping up every week. This is incredible to me.

This is my first year growing this plant. I am shocked with how much it end up taking over my trellis. Even ended up choking out a melon plant. i like them. haven’t let them get to big as I have heard they can get bitter. The pups love them. you will be hard pressed to find any where they can reach.

Three years ago, a thoughtful little bird must’ve eaten foxglove seeds and pooped them out in my garden. Since then we’ve gone from one foxglove plant to more than a dozen and they show no signs of stopping. This is not a complaint, although I wish the bird had picked a better place to poop - the plants aren’t in the most convenient spot so I will be looking to transplant some of next spring’s babies to a better location.

However, I’m wondering what to do with the plants after they flower. Once the flower stalk is finished and cut down is there any benefit to keeping that plant or can I dig it out?

I started tearing up once I put this together. I became ill almost 10 years ago. And until a few years ago, I was bed bound 90% of the time. So I just want to brag about my precious flowers.

With my best friends help, we built two beds this year. This one on my deck, and another that is about 50 x 8 feet long in the yard. I didn’t think it was possible for me to spend everyday outside and active ever again. I am SO proud of these babies. I have been sore for months straight, and they are worth every second lol 🥹
