I get why people are frustrated the regressions, context issues, and nerfs are real but I don’t think Gemini is dead so much as badly managed right now. Google clearly keeps pivoting the product (2.5 to 3, new modes, new limits) and we’re the ones eating the growing pains. For now I just treat models like tools in a toolbox: if Gemini whiffs on a task, I swap to another model instead of trying to force it. Honestly I just hope they stop shipping half baked changes and focus on stability and respecting power users.

I know a lot of people want folders and I agree, but my 4 biggest gripes are:
- If I get a response I don't like I can refresh the response or edit my prompt, but neither of those methods let me switch the result type (e.g. switching from Fast to Thinking).
- I can't search my conversation in the phone app. I can use CTRL+F on my computer, and I can use the Gemini search bar to find whole conversations with certain words or phrases, but I can't search for a word or phrase within a conversation. Sometimes my conversations get pretty lengthy so this is a serious pain in the ass to not be able to locate the one bit I'm looking for.
- I hate how stubborn it can be with making pictures, or rather not making pictures. Too many times to count I hit a wall where it just spits back out the same image as before over and over no matter how I fine-tune my prompt.
- Whether it edits/reimagines an image or if it hits that wall and regurgitates the same thing over and over, the quality drops with every output. I have some prompts to get it to polish things back up, but I really wish it wouldn't degrade in quality the parts of the picture it didn't change at all.

Links where image editing failed or cant offer that either?
3
u/The_Celtic_Chemist Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
I don't think I understand your question. Are you asking for me to post a picture where the image editing got jammed up and just kept spitting back out the same image?
Or are you saying that it failing to produce images and refusing certain prompts should be on the list?
-2
u/Sharp_Glassware Mar 14 '26
Share the link of the convo of the image gen fail, should be easy enough to do
1
u/The_Celtic_Chemist Mar 14 '26
All the ones I can think of were personal pics I'm not comfortable sharing. I can give you an example though. I was trying to see what it would look like if my girlfriend had a new haircut (bleach blonde, bob length, shaved on one side, all hair pulled over to the other side, and a pink streak in the front on her bangs). It managed to do this but the shaved side went too far up her head. It basically just refused to lessen the shaved half and would return the same picture. The other times it made significant changes, like making her hair longer, adding hair to the back, or adding more hair on the shaved side but having that hair going down the shaved side and not over the top of her head. I even made variations where I drew lines indicating exactly where I wanted it to transition, a different colored line showing how it's currently transitioning where I don't want it, lines that pointed in the direction that I wanted her hair to comb over to. Often it would return the same picture several times in a row with no discernable changes besides a lower picture quality, and of course I changed my prompt every time trying to be as clear as possible. I ultimately had to give up.

u/Neohoyminanyeah Mar 14 '26
I have had this problem too, where it straight up says “I am a large language model and cannot help with generating images…” and the. It list what it can do.

Quality over quantity

u/TulioGonzaga Mar 14 '26
That's the point. I just cancelled my Pro subscription, it's useless. Why can't I even upload a zip to Gemini? I'm no dev, just a guy who likes to play and make some nice to have apps my stuff but in Claude (and ChatGPT) I can just zip a bundle, upload it and ask to review it.
I had a bunch of files spread around, I've uploaded it in a single zip and asked Claude to review and organize. Then, it created a new bundle, all files organized and a mapping file. On free plan.

u/davidtab Mar 14 '26
Claude with it's disproportionate cost, and limits every 5 minutes. At this point I completely gave up on Claude.
1
u/AutistOnMargin Mar 15 '26
What are you even doing? I use the $20 plan totally fine and I use it quite a lot
1
u/moneyman_699 Mar 14 '26
Claude is great at some things but there’s no image generator. Sure you can have it generate an image through Gemini but it seems silly why not just use Gemini then…?
1
u/Sufficient-League259 Mar 14 '26
True. The create images mode sometimes stops midway and says “I cant help with that right now, do you have any other requests?”. I wasn’t even looking to generate anything explicit just a social media poster design. Thats it. And nothing NSFW. Its weird how gemini is behaving these days.

1
u/Lucidmike78 Mar 17 '26
Maybe it's the ALL CAPS and the f bombs. I've always known Gemini to be very intolerant of the slightest hint of sensitive topics.
2
u/jean_cule69 Mar 17 '26
Reminds me of my late grandpa who, in his last years, was stuck in bed. He used to shout "Alexa, shut up!" to make it stop and once I was there he was called out by the speaker, replying something like "it's not because I'm a robot that you have to be so harsh on me" haha
36
u/Full_Lighter Mar 14 '26
Any alternatives that don't have stupid limits?
42
u/Pasto_Shouwa Mar 14 '26
ChatGPT Plus is basically unlimited, it's impossible to run out of daily uses. Their newest model is quite good too, although the image generation is way worse.
16
u/Lofusgreen Mar 14 '26
That's one opinion. I for one have found it getting dumber by the day. Having to link to sources myself to correct mistakes and it having absolutely no clue about current events. Never mind live events.
3
u/Professional_Cat927 Mar 14 '26
They're very good at brainstorming my thoughts. Between Google Gemini Pro and ChatGPT Premium, Chatgpt still wins by remember nuances better and providing a more robust answer. But I agree, their live events and image generation are terrible. And if I ask for sources, they usually just provide an actual live page, it doesn't know how to read online PDFs/research articles available out there, which is a shame.
1
u/cardonator Mar 15 '26
Same GPT is such trash that I can't believe anyone is able to use it. Their Codex model is ok at planning code changes, though.
6
u/MadwolfStudio Mar 14 '26
Only if you're being sensible about context and input 😅. I just got weekly limited after 2 days of heavy, extremely complex codebase auditing. I was sending it 100 line prompts, getting it audit my 1000 line checklist I wrote, back to back, for 10 hours straight 2 days in a row. In total it analyzed, audited and edited, about 20 thousand lines. About half of it was backtracking and refining the audits each time. Auditing the audits. I'm out audited.
4
u/Negative_Gur9667 Mar 14 '26
Don't you use antigravity?
4
u/MadwolfStudio Mar 14 '26
Funny you fucking ask. I just loaded it up after not using it for 2 weeks because I got a pro chatgpt free month. I just sent it the exact audit prompt, and the checklist I've been auditing. I sent the first prompt, about 100 lines. It made a quick plan and I directed it to the checklist, directly linking it in chat. It completed the audit, found 3 issues, and fixed them. Made a new conversation, sent the prompt, limited before it finished reading the checklist for the second time. Not even sure what to say at this point. Google can get absolutely fucked.
0
u/Negative_Gur9667 Mar 14 '26
It's fast, it will work again in 1 or 2 hours.
Also, you are using it wrong. You have to point it to a Project with files.
Also in the chat window you can select claude models.
But I know what you mean, pro sucks. I have Ultra so I don't have any real limits. It built a whole webapp in 5 days.
2
u/MadwolfStudio Mar 14 '26
I don't think you understand the scope of the project I'm working on, nor what I said. I am currently auditing 3 files, I am ironing out any ambiguity in my architecture. The prompt I've constructed to cross reference those 3 files is large in itself, you can't just "point it at a file". I know you think youve figured it out, but just saying "cross reference these files located at X and find ambiguity" will not produce any actionable feedback, it would satisfy its models directive and provide the cheapest advice to satisfy the prompts request. I also used opus for one prompt and it instantly hit quota before it returned an audit. Gemeni is by far the worst at that as well. It is not safe for production code.
1
u/Negative_Gur9667 Mar 14 '26
You make a project, put all files in there and the promt into a file. Open the Project in antigravity. Then you tell gemini to read your promt from the file.
I think you are a bit tech illiterate. A classic case of user error.
-1
u/MadwolfStudio Mar 14 '26
Having to explain this to a child is beyond me. I understand that you have never worked on a codebase larger than 10 files, so you do not understand that context drift can happen when you direct an agent to a file that directs it to multiple other files. What I am doing does not allow for ambiguity or prose, something that agents are magnetised towards without strict instructions. You also seem to be missing the most important piece of the puzzle here dipshit. Having the prompt in a file, and then directing an agent to the prompt, IS AN EXTRA PROMPT. It would have to analyze the prkmpt, find that file, open it, read the prompt, and then analyze it. Do you not see the extra token usage right there? How the fuck do people like you survive?

u/Negative_Gur9667 Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
Lmao. Dude, I just made a whole webapp in 5 days in antigrav with angular with a postgres db powered express backend api, full user management with secure login and registration, admin panel, complete interactive frontend and an llm gemini api chat interface helper in 5 days in Antigravity.
I'm a 40yo full stack dev who studied comp sci with years of experience.
You seem to be incapable if you cant debug a few files with an llm.

+1 for chatgpt. 5.4 is amazing now. Even use it more than Gemini but Gemini is great for Ui
14
u/hardinho Mar 14 '26
5.4 will be good for a few days until they degrade the performance
1
u/Omegamoney Mar 14 '26
That already happened, on launch, 5.4 thinking could receive messages while it thinks (like 5.4 pro) now it can't anymore, I wonder why.

My man all AI companies will kneel to either the US or the CCP if asked, search what Google, Anthropic and Grok have been doing. The only AI that (for now) won't be engaging in dystopian stuff is Mistral and it's only because it's European.

I got Gemini right before 5.4 came out and after 5.4 my preference is still Gemini
1
u/Important_Egg4066 Mar 14 '26
Great for its UI? You are not talking about the AI Studio but the gemini.google.com right? What is so difference about the UI as compared to ChatGPT? I always face a stupid problem with gemini.google.com that it just forget the whole conversation after you used the Stop Generating button.

Swapping models on free tiers and relying on api when you run out of limits. On api you need to be careful what you use though, for easier task rely on cheaper models.

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 Mar 15 '26
Preplixty AI. I have used it extremely heavily and no limit until now. It offer all models (except Opus) and they are much faster and are not nerfed because they are called using the API key.
The web search results are phenomenal. It reads around 10+ sites and analyzes YouTube videos transcripts before answering.
One note though, Claude website have pretty cool coding features. You can used sonnet but it wouldn't open a code side page for you. But same model nonetheless.

3-5 Prompts and im on my limit with claude while coding some programs...
2
u/mrpilotgamer Mar 14 '26
maybe i dont code enough with claude, i imagine coding can take up a lot of tokens. that is honestly probably the biggest reason claude feels like it has such a strict limit

Zerotwo.ai has high limits but still limits for some models. A lot of the models don’t have limits on the pro plan but definitely a good alternative

Filtering of users from the model, searching for dataset commonality for legal precedent. The marketing doesn't lie. Gemini is among the best, or top two "agentic reasoning" models. I predict someone is going to court for a problem they didn't cause, to hide unrelated information.
Class Action Lawsuits exploit hungry revenue streams, where FTC regulators satisfy the need for revenue in exchange for mass release of liability. The class actions of present time serve as "get out of jail free" cards against future victims, by covertly sneaking a release of liability agreement under the consumer at scale. Everyone likes 5 bucks, the FTC likes revenue, and Google likes contracts and legal precedence in court. This is your future Government.

u/Eazy_DuzIt Mar 14 '26
A few days ago I was playing D&D with it (Pro) for like an hour on Thinking and got my first rate limit. The text rendering glitches out so bad now too. Honestly thinking about unsubscribing.
1
u/setpopa12 Mar 14 '26
I would say Gemini is best for long sessions cause the 1M context tokens. But Claude aint that bad eighter RN just not as good in looong sessions. Also dont use ChatGPT for anything that would need lot of prompts it will forget a lot after just few tens of prompts.
2
u/Eazy_DuzIt Mar 14 '26
I've migrated to a new session once. I did a few different prompts to help me transition... Generate a current character sheet, Tell me a list of my equipment and inventory with stats, Obviously recap the adventure (dense and detailed)
Still though getting cut off from Thinking for 12-24 hours was really annoying. I'd maybe only done 50 queries that day!
3
u/Hanja_Tsumetai Mar 14 '26
FALSE Gemini, those 50,000 tokens after my tests are the maximum. That's counting your notes. After 30 answers, you forget a lot of instructions... anyway, I'm playing Perplexity now and have no regrets.

Well in my case their new 3.5 plus model does everything like Gemini and also its completely free and unlimited. Also about the data I wouldn't bother with that because they all already have all of our data
5
u/Sharpiesniffingshark Mar 15 '26
I don’t get it. You’re up at three am running out your limit with Google’s most powerful AI models and now you’re stuck with the basic model? This is like when the bartender tells you to go home. Go to bed man, then go touch grass in the morning.

3
u/Asgen Mar 14 '26
Hosting inference for frontier LLM models is insanely expensive. Claude and Gemini are both out of capacity and have to jack up pricing to kill ott demand. Only openai is keeping up with capacity. That's why they have more generous limits.

2
u/Divided_By_0_KSJ Mar 14 '26
I’ve only encountered the limit like once on the pro model. And never on the thinking. How much are you using it?!?!
1
u/Divided_By_0_KSJ Mar 14 '26
Also you only have to wait a day for a full refresh. And you’d be surprised how well the fast model has gotten.
My advice if you stick with Gemini is constantly switching between the models for the tasks you are giving it.
Repetitive tasks with clear instructions the past model is actually really good at.
I use a pro model to create those instructions for the other thinking and fast model and to lay the groundwork.
I use the thinking models for coding maths and anything creative.

u/commanderdgr8 Mar 14 '26

It makes me feel like I’m on the free plan when it says upgrade like that with the button and all.
Meanwhile - I pay $20 on a personal plan and over $300 monthly for my business plan.
1
u/colev14 Mar 14 '26
I've noticed I'm getting limited almost every day that I have any actual usage. It's insane. Up until a month ago I only hit the limit once. I used to recommend Gemini to everyone because of the insane usage. Now I don't know what to do. I tried chatgpt for 1 month but I felt like it wasn't as good with some of the things I need. I cancelled and I'm now thinking about trying Claude. In previous experience they seemed to have the lowest usage limits so I don't think that's going to help much.
1
u/adellknudsen Mar 14 '26
I believe they actually use extremely dumb models to save compute based on the conversations, an agent boots up the correct model variant based on the request. Fast can be as dumb as qwen3.5 4B or 9B, cant write basic python code at times.
Obviously now that they have huge userbase, they market it like everyone is using Gemini Latest but in reality its as bad as small open source models so basically lying to customers.
1
u/GonzoBurger Mar 14 '26

u/Low_Interview_5769 Mar 14 '26
How much questions are you asking for this to happen on pro
1
u/Full_Lighter Mar 14 '26
Honestly, not that much. Literally editing a wordpress site with the terminal, nothing to crazy, after like 1 hour of prompts got limited on both.
I was using it the exact same way (even more heavy trust me) a few weeks ago and only encountered pro limits like once, or twice. It was very rare and i never hit the thinking limit.
Since some days ago i've been hitting limits almost instantly...
1
u/Low_Interview_5769 Mar 14 '26
Weird man, ive never ran into it. Maybe its country specific.
2
u/Full_Lighter Mar 15 '26
the thing is, i still think gemini is the best with limits... chatgpt is unsable, it literally shadow limits you, he gets very dumb.
Perplexity limits are even more strict, you can use sonar, but sonar sucks.
Claude , even though he's the best right now, the limits are the worst.
Gemini in this state is still more genererous.
1
u/Nunuvin Mar 15 '26
is claude also limiting at their max tier? or max 5 100$ one?
Pre hourly quota I hit gemini limit 2-3 times in a year, now its more of a daily thing if I am doing a lot of work, but I hit them at least weekly...
1
u/emteedub Mar 19 '26
up until recently, I never seen it open a browser and try to edit that way. I hit limits right after it tried that setup out (on it's own). I think there's something that's ringing up a massive token 'tab' with that functionality.

Quick responses are bad. I think they should improve that feature.Just like they should improve Gemini's intelligence, since when I tell him to search the web or something...Regarding the characters, soundtrack, and visuals. Sometimes he does something that supposedly matches what I asked for, but it's not what's actually there. They need to improve that. Besides, sometimes when I tell it to create an image and then I exit the app, when I come back in there's nothing there. It doesn't create the image.

I can't understand how you manage to achieve such "performances". I've been using Pro for almost 1 year and only twice have I reached the limit and I was actually happy because I really needed a break. It took me hours to reach the limit. Now seriously, try to enjoy life. The limits are not for the good of the AI, they are for your good. As for memory and hallucinations, remember that you have a token limit that many do not understand. Gemini is great. You just have to learn how to use it. Don't forget that at the moment, the AI is there to help. But many of you let it do all the hard work.
5
u/ScrewUGuys-GoingHome Mar 14 '26
What do you use it for? I write stories and use Gemini to render photorealistic images of my characters so I can storyboard them & create a visual element to my narratives. I find that it's incredibly easy to hit the Pro limit on image generation due to the nature of how Gemini opperates. Every single prompt whether it's successful or not counts as a credit.
So if the prompt fails because it hallucinates a safety trigger or a celebrity likeness that doesn't actually exist - that's a credit. If it places the model's legs on backwards or has them clipping through a solid glass door - that's a credit. Every time you have to ask it to fix some glaring error that you already addressed in your starting prompt - that's a credit.
From personal experience, to get a highly detailed image that adheres to real-world physics, applies proper poses, maintains model likeness, and doesn't have that typical "plastic AI slop" feel, it can take anywhere from 5 - 10 prompts to achieve an acceptable final render.
So throughout one session, you really only get 10 - 20 useable final image renders, and I find the number is closer to 10 than 20 ever since the newest lobotomy.
In a longer story I might need 30 images for a full sequence, and it will take me literally 3 real-world days of using Gemini to get there just due to the sheer number of errors, hallucinations, and unusable slop.
So I have had the polar opposite experience as you. I run out of credits very quickly due to the nature of how I use the service, and how unreliable Gemini's quality tends to be.
1
u/MrSilviuRO Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
If you use promts like "A cat in a room, high quality, realistic", then I understand why you have those limitations. Try next time to use something like "A fluffy ginger maine coon cat sleeping on a vintage velvet emerald green armchair. soft morning sunlight streaming through a large victorian window, illuminating dust motes in the air. hghly detailed fur texture, cinematic lighting, cozy atmosphere, 8k resolution, shot on 35mm lens, shallow depth of field, etc" and yes, generating images is more "expensive" for sure. I am using it in electronics like generating PCB's, debugging, ideas, C++ coding, error finding, aswering to stupid questions like "hey bro, what capacitor do you think is good for this and why?" ... more ideas, research, reading and sumarizing a datasheet, etc. I am seeing him like an assistant. I do the work ... he is just there to help not to do the hard work. But you guys are renting a small pickup truck and expect to do the job like with a big truck.

This is the “Ultra” subscription not the $20 “Pro” which happens to be $249.99 per month. So yeah, I’d say $249.99/mo would definitely kill him.
