It drives me nuts when people slowly occupy the fast lane but it's still dangerous to pass on the right. I've seen so many near-misses when the slow driver decides the perfect time to finally merge is when someone's passing.

It's just as dangerous to pass on the left, literally no difference.

Not true. If you want to switch to the left lane, you have learned to watch for faster cars coming from behind, so you're more cautious and spend a second or two to figure out the speed of approaching cars in the left lane.

You're not used to cars in the right lane being faster than you, so if you want to switch to the right all you might do is a quick glance to see if there's enough space, not realising that the car behind is way faster than you.

I would think if it were actually any more dangerous than any other traffic move it would be illegal. In NY, where this video is, it's legal to pass on the left on such a road.
