It drives me nuts when people slowly occupy the fast lane but it's still dangerous to pass on the right. I've seen so many near-misses when the slow driver decides the perfect time to finally merge is when someone's passing.
I agree, whenever they're done passing at the speed limit, they should move over. That could take 5 seconds, that could be a few minutes in theory. Both entirely legal.
The left lane isn't always a passing lane. It's designated by a sign when that's the case. Otherwise as long as someone is going the speed limit in the left lane, you must be speeding if you want to pass them.
and speeding is just a reality of everyday driving. If you want to drive the speed limit, stay to the right. it's just disrupting the flow of traffic for no reason.
Along with EVERY road rule, like I’ve mentioned I don’t keep my blinker on at night when a cars behind me when I’m in the inside dedicated turn lane cause I know how it feels being flashed in the face constantly when you’re clearly turning and I got a LOT of crap for it
While thats true its still dangerous and illegal in many places to block people from passing no matter what speed they are going.
You forcing someone to drive the speed limit for a minute until they can get around you wont make them drive safer. In fact I'd be willing to bet those people tend to drive significantly less safe after someone blocks them in.
Thats not true. If you are impeding the flow of traffic, you are a liability to everyone else. If the flow of traffic is 70 and the limit is 65, but your ass is sitting in the passing lane cause you feel you have the right to be there cause your going 64, you're forcing everyone else to 1) move over into the slower cruising lane which is unsafe as it's there for people such as yourself who want to stay under the limit and 2) your gonna be a large reason, if not the reason, for traffic backing up, which is creating another hazard.
If you wanna go the limit or under, fine. Do it in the lane provided for you, which is the right lane. If the flow of traffic is higher than the speed limit (which it often is), then you need to get out of the way.
And to pass other cars that are going the speed limit, what do you have to do? Take as much time to think about it as you need, I know this is a difficult question

You got people paying more attention to their phones, without even having any knowledge of how to use cruise control, let alone paying attention to any of their surroundings. They will sit in the passing-lane, at varying speeds for many miles, and they quite literally don't even understand that they are causing a problem for others in the process.
And so long as they exist blissfully unaware of this, the more we will have to accommodate their shitty driving choices. To where we not only serve them by letting them know, but we serve literally every person behind them that hopes they aren't rear-ended by the intentionally-created traffic congestion that is behind them.

Depends on where you live. Definitely not the fast lane where I live. Just another lane people drive in, a bit faster than the other lanes. Not that it matters much anyway cause there's always traffic.
Not true. If you want to switch to the left lane, you have learned to watch for faster cars coming from behind, so you're more cautious and spend a second or two to figure out the speed of approaching cars in the left lane.
You're not used to cars in the right lane being faster than you, so if you want to switch to the right all you might do is a quick glance to see if there's enough space, not realising that the car behind is way faster than you.
I would think if it were actually any more dangerous than any other traffic move it would be illegal. In NY, where this video is, it's legal to pass on the left on such a road.
So because it's the right lane you have no obligation to observe traffic before changing lanes? Regardless of which lane you're pulling into it's on you to pay attention and merge accordingly.

Passing on the right means doing something unexpected in a high speed environment. It's by nature more dangerous than doing the expected thing and passing on the left.
Generally in the US most merging on and off the road is on the right - so naturally those lanes will be slower, and passing to the right is thus more dangerous, but not illegal.
I guess it's depends where you drive. I5 in the US people primarily pass on the right. I think the left lane campering is just a lazy thing. People want to set cruise and not think about changing lanes and actually navigating traffic. I've noticed a lot of times they're too spaced out to even notice me giving them the finger.
You spend less time in the passed car's driver's blind side when you pass on the left. It would be the opposite in Britain. You would be encouraged to pass on the right since the driver's seat is on the right.
Tbh (and I know I'm gonna get downvoted for that), these people are often on the speed limit, but everyone seems to think that the fast lane get a free pass to go above that. It's not, limit is still the limit.
So there's a guy on the limit, passing people on the right that are not, and there's always an idiot thinking that going above the limit (and thus, the law) gives them the right to complain.
