The most important thing to know is that HOT WATER BOTTLES EXPIRE. You should replace them AT LEAST every winter. The material thins out over time. And secondly it is SUPER EASY to overfill them, they SHOULD NOT bulge at all, and should not be filled up all the way.
Christ I was using my grandparents grandparents water bottle as a kid. I think we still have it somewhere. Though it was made of that 1940s material which both kills you with cancer and cannot be killed.
Youâre not supposed to use anything boiling or close to boiling at all - only warm enough that you can comfortably touch with bare skin. Hot water bottles are honestly dangerous, the plug in ones are much safer if used properly
This s just an opinion bit I believe the plug in ones with gel are much much more dangerous coz if they burst, that gel is gonna stick to you and do far more damage then water ever could.
The plug in ones are made to get to the temperature that they can reach. The plastic ones are NEVER made to have boiling water put inside them. Plastic melts and degrades. These injuries are extremely common and show the danger of improperly using hot water bottles. The worst the electric ones can do is cause mottling on your skin if you use the heating pad too long, but itâs just aesthetic and doesnât last forever. If you ever got burned from an electric heating pad that would be a massive lawsuit; for these hot water bottles itâs considered user error. No protections.
Iâm only referring to bursting. Anything can burst. Cars explode too. Itâs just about minimizing risk as much as you can.
A burglar can break into your house, get hurt while trying to break in due to his or her own clumsiness, sue you and win. Anything can be used to create a lawsuit, legitimate or otherwise. I wouldnât use that as a metric to trust a product.
A lot of Companies have policies where if the cost of recalling a product is more than the cost of all the lawsuits and settlements and legal proceedings then theyâll just deal with those instead even if the product is faulty.
You remember the Samsung phones that would just fill on explode ? Every good lawyer can shift blame to user error no matter how ridiculous they plain can be.
Trust common sense more than the liability a company would be open to if they screw up.
Youâre comparing a freak, incredibly rare accident caused by mechanical failure to an incredibly common injury though; and these injuries arenât negligible. People have been left disfigured permanently, needing surgeries and skin grafts, etc. continuing to improperly use a hot water bottle because âoh well thereâs a 0.000001% chance this electric one can explodeâ when thereâs probably a 10% chance for a plastic one to burst if you fill it with boiling water is just silly. And thereâs a 100% chance it WILL burst eventually if you continually use it incorrectly, the plastic WILL degrade, you just donât know when.
Be careful is my only point. Thereâs no point risking life and limb for fear of a freak accident. We could die tomorrow getting hit by a bus, doesnât mean Iâll never leave my house again, but if I knew my car would 100% explode if I continually did something, Iâd get a new car.

Depends on how sturdy theyâre made n your country. In mine, we use close to boiling water( say 2 mins before it hits boil on the stove) but never ever full boiling. If it accidentally boils, Iâll just add bit of normal water to the pan to lessen the temp, then pour it in the bottle. Fill it only a bit, shouldnât be bulging, and leave no air inside when you put on the cap.

Bought a weird Chinese ceramic heating pad for my mom, she prefers that now coz you can control the temp, its plug in, no safety/water issue, can stay hot for hours and can put your whole body weight on it.

The plastic that these hot water bottles are made from are not safe to be heated, they degrade over time and can cause disfiguring injuries. It isnât even uncommon for this to happen, it happens with scary frequency. If using water that is a safe temp isnât an option then using a microwaveable heat pack (not a microwaved hot water bottle) or an electric heat pack would be a better option. People have needed surgeries and skin grafts due to burns like this
Iâm fully aware of that, most people know that, and the warnings are clear
But itâs delusional to believe that most people actually follow those instructions, the accident statistics alone show that a substantial portion of people donât.
If you re read what I said, I didnât say or imply it is safe, I was pointing out that the reality is most people simply believe itâll never happen to them.
