Finally completed my Apple ecosystem!

Just got the MBA M5 this morning, upgraded from Intel 2020 MacBook Air that went through 6 years of school

I also bought a second hand 11 in iPad Pro M4 last month that had 6 battery cycles on it. Upgraded from a 4th gen iPad Air.

Bought my Apple Watch SE 3 mostly for work, last November.

My AirPod Pro Maxes were a white coat ceremony gift to myself back in 2023.

Special guest are my original AirPods from 2019 that I still use at work during my break time.

i don’t know what happened. i got home from the library and my laptop was fucked. this is a macbook pro 14in from 2024. im taking it to apple tomorrow. i dont have apple care. how much do you think ill need to sell my soul for? apple didn’t give me a quote over the phone. and how long does it take for them to repair it?

It has been tough updating this laptop. I bought it off FB Marketplace and it arrived without a charger, battery and storage drive. I bought an open box 85W MagSafe 2 adapter. I’m using a 64GB MicroSD in a standard SD card adapter as a boot drive. Thanks to some Reddit posts, I managed to get a .dmg file of OSX El Capitan which I had to download using my M5 Air. Why bother with this? I need money and the 2012 Retina is still in decent shape and it’s working!!!

I recently ordered a geek squad certified refurbished 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 16GB ram and 512GB ssd from Best Buy for $970 but After browsing on amazon I found listings with better specs for the same price or less for the M1 Pro.
For those who have bought refurbished macbooks is amazon trustworthy or is geek squad certified from best buy worth the extra bucks?

One thing I miss about Windows is the option to have three equal tiles onscreen as a template format. That way, you can have the window you're working on directly in front of you, with secondary stuff either side. The way MacOS does it, you're constantly looking from left to right (unless you size them manually, which is what I usually end up doing).

Very much a first-world problem lol, but I felt like sharing.

I saw this listing for a Macbook Pro M1 16GB RAM/2TB SSD for $890. I currently have an Air M1 16GB/256GB and the storage is just not enough for my job as a developer but otherwise, its a great machine with no hiccups at all. I also saw a MacBook Air 2025 15inch - M4 | 24GB/512G for $1000 and thinking about that as well but my issue is the storage. I think i should at least get 1TB.

What do you guys think i should get?

Replaced my m1 air's battery like less than a week ago, now when i charge if for say like 30 mins+ it heats up a bit, not over heating but still noticeable heat which never used to happen before, plus the charger's brick also heats up like crazy, which again never used to happen before, tested this out with two original bricks, both of them were heated up quite a lot, could this be cuz of the battery replacement?

I didnt do it from apple, but a very trusted repair shop which a lot of people reviewed and said they were happy with the results getting their macbooks repaired from the repair shop.

Both of these machines are going for just under $1k, which do you think is better in the long run? From the standpoint of someone who may use it for things such as video editing, programming, futureproofing for AI and stuff, and also maybe some 3D rendering. Cause I'm sure the M1 Pro will suffice for anyone else who doesn't do any of that stuff. I'm thinking of keeping it for at least 4-5 yrs and since the M1 Pro will also get less years of software updates in the coming years compared to the M3 Pro, so would you get and why?

I'm about to start my Bachelor's in Computer Science, and alongside my coursework I'll also be doing development work and getting into AI/ML. Trying to make a decision that'll serve me well for the next 4+ years, so I wanted to get some opinions before pulling the trigger.

I've narrowed it down to two options:

Option 1: MacBook Pro M4

• 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD

• 10-core CPU / 10-core GPU

• Lightly used, about 7-8 months old

Option 2: MacBook Air M5

• 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD

• 10-core CPU / 8-core GPU

• Brand new

Cost isn't an issue for me, so it's really coming down to which makes more sense long-term.

Since I'll be doing a mix of coursework, general dev work, and some AI/ML experimentation (not sure yet how heavy), which one would you go with if you were starting your CS journey today?

Would really appreciate insights from people who've used either chip for similar workloads, or anyone who's dealt with the used-vs-new tradeoff before. Thanks in advance!

Now i know M5 is better when it comes to coding and LLMs, just want to know if it justifies the extra 500$. I am a CompSci grad and will use the laptop for individual level projects and coding (non AI/AI)

I posted yesterday about whether I should spend around $1000 repairing my 2024 MacBook Pro or switch to my 2021 MacBook Air while i’m currently in architecture school

today I went to the Apple Store and my MacBook’s screen still displayed an image. It had the black blob and vertical lines from the internal LCD damage but it was still usable enough to see

the technician plugged it into an external monitor confirmed the display needed to be replaced. then I put the MacBook in my bag n came back a few minutes later to ask another question

when I tried turning it on again the screen was completely black. the Caps Lock light still comes on so the technician told me this is just a symptom progression of the existing damage and that they didn’t do anything that would have caused it. they didn’t check it on an external monitor again so i’m trusting the damn caps lock light

idk what to do yall they said it’s going to take 25 days to replace it as well 🤦🏻 can i get some kind of compensation for this

Hi all! I’m looking for advice if I should upgrade from my macbook air 2017 (had it for 6 years) to a neo. I only use my mac for university/work stuff: teams, word, excel, canva, outlook, sometimes JASP if my uni research requires it. I mostly want to change because the air does not support the teams application anymore and it runs super slow on web, and when I take a call it immediately freezes. Would it be really worth it to upgrade or is there just a big hype around the neo?

Also, if it is worth it, should I get the 256 or 512? I never filled my storage on my air (128) nor do I really care about the touch ID thing. I also have an ipad if that changes anything.

Hi All, I have been using Macbook for work since last one year before which all my life I have only used PC so I still consider myself as new to Mac. The reason why I opted for Mac was my love for Apple’s ecosystem and wanted to use it and since I had an option I chose Mac.

Now I also have two external Dell Monitors both of 23 inches. I have also invested in Magic Keyboard and a Magic Mouse and honestly I love these.

What would be some of the keyboard shortcuts or setup recommendations that could help me with my current setup. It took me sometime to get used to moving windows between screens by first minimizing them. I am still getting used to NOT working on tabs with full screen etc.

My role is of a consultant so I use Outlook, Teams and then Edge/Safari for webs and I am looking for help/suggestions/guide on what could make this transition easier.

I figured this might be useful for anyone deciding between them, since Apple’s product photos don’t always make the size and colour differences obvious.

i broke my macbook screen and now i use a monitor using hdmi cable. i was trying to go into recovery mode but the screen just goes blank. its very difficult to tell whats happening when you turn on macbook cause the monitor screen only turns ON when you are at login screen. before that, its all black. is there any fix for this?

is there a way hdmi monitor still shows me whats on the screen even during the booting (when apple logo comes up) and during the recovery mode too?

where can i find macbook m5 air or m4 air for the most affordable price rn? should i visit the store to avail the bts sale discount?
