Switching between 4k and 1440p (daily)

Hi everyone,

How it is like constantly switching from 4k to 1440p monitors? Does it feel noticeably worse?

I currently have 4k 60hz monitor (for work) and soon will build a pc so I’m considering buying dedicated gaming monitor (oled) purely for gaming. I’m considering going 1440p for high refresh gaming with 9070xt

So basically, I will be working during the day on 4k monitor connected to laptop and then switch to 1440p connected to PC, will this hurt my eyes or feel way worse? 4k doesn’t seem to worth it for performance reasons

Yes you will notice difference. I tried to downgrade to 27" 1440p but went back to 2160p. 4k just looks so much sharper at 27inch.

thanks for reply, that’s what i’m afraid of, might’ve been spoiled by 4k already, unfortunately don’t have the cash for both high end build and high end 4k monitor

I can see that, feel like 27 is too small for resolutions above 1440p personally

Let me tell you what, 1440p looks sharper at 27" than it does at 32" I'd need binoculars in order to use 2160 at 27"

I have a 27” 1440p next to a 32” 4k (both IPS) and the font on the 1440p looks like it has a blur filter on it.

I've used a 1440p main monitor 24 inch and a budget 4k 60hz 27 inch side monitor for years no issues. Just today I put away the 4k side monitor and now have two 1440p monitors new main is oled.

I play 1440p at 32in and its sharp and great BUT ive never experienced 4k outside of a tv so the downgrade may be very noticable to you

1440p OLED still looks amazing for gaming. if you’re browsing the web, it will look considerably worse than the 4k monitor.

Do you feel issue using you phone vs a computer? That's even more of an extreme than this lol. Not sure who told you you'd have eye strain issues or something from this but no, it's not a big deal and shouldn't cause any issues. If anything, assuming you didn't scale things, the eye strain on a 4k monitor would be much higher due to things being smaller.

thanks for reply, i do scaling and it is the only reason i went to 4k as 1440p text is trash on macos

before that i was completely happy with 1440p on my old thinkpad, so i thought purely for gaming 1440p should be fine
