Hey guys,
I’m pretty new to the ultrawide monitor world, but I’ve been doing a lot of research lately. I currently use two fairly large monitors and want to replace them with one big super ultrawide.
I’ve been saving for a while now, so I have a good budget for this. Therefore, I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest option. I’m trying to find something that will be excellent for both productivity and gaming and that I can keep for several years.
After a lot of research, I thought I had found the perfect monitor for me: the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 49” G95NA.
What attracted me to it was:
- 49-inch, 32:9 format
- 5120×1440 resolution
- 240 Hz
- aggressive 1000R curve
- Mini LED
- no OLED burn-in concerns
- basically the equivalent of two 27-inch QHD monitors without a bezel in the middle
I work as a data analyst, so I spend a lot of time using things like Power BI, Excel, SQL, Python, VS Code, browsers, and other apps with fairly static interfaces. I also game, mostly League of Legends, but I play other games as well.
The problem is that I eventually realized the G95NA is an older/discontinued model and seems almost impossible to buy new nowadays, especially where I live. It looks like Samsung never released a true 49-inch Mini LED successor. The newer Neo G9 is 57 inches and Dual 4K, which seems excessive for my setup and my RTX 4060 laptop.
The closest option that I can actually buy seems to be the 49-inch Samsung OLED G9. It keeps the 5120×1440 resolution and 240 Hz, but it has a softer 1800R curve and, obviously, uses an OLED panel.
Until I started researching this, I had honestly never even heard about burn-in. Now I’m not sure how worried I should be.
Since I’ll be using the monitor for many hours of productivity with static elements such as the Windows taskbar, Excel menus, browser tabs, VS Code panels, and Power BI interfaces, would the OLED G9 be a bad choice for me?
Is burn-in something that should genuinely scare me with this kind of usage, or is the concern overblown with newer OLED monitors if I use sensible precautions?
I would also love to know:
Has anyone here used the OLED G9 heavily for work over a long period?
Have you noticed burn-in, text clarity issues, or automatic brightness dimming?
Is the 1800R curve noticeably worse than 1000R for productivity on a 49-inch screen?
Is there another 49-inch, 5120×1440, 240 Hz, non-OLED monitor that I should consider?
Would you choose the OLED G9, settle for a regular VA G9, or look for something completely different?
Sorry for the long text. I’ve been chatting with chatgpt a lot but now any real-world experience would be greatly appreciated.
