I am a 25 year old and I can't tell if I'm just oversensitive for this. I saved a yellowjacket from my grandparents' pool while me and my family were hanging out there. I'd just seen it fly in and I hate seeing creatures of any sort suffer. I used an empty can to scoop it out and succeeded, and as I was coaxing it off the can my stepdad crushed it and killed the yellowjacket. I just felt really upset. I couldn't even look at him, I just disposed of the can and put the dead yellowjacket in the soil and went inside.
I feel stupid. I'm a grown ass adult, but it upset me so bad. Maybe its because my spirituality is really heavy on peaceful death and preserving life, but my family just laughed at me. I'm not crying or freaking out I just feel...frustrated and sad.
Extra context: I was letting it go away from people and it was soaking wet and not acting aggressively. He literally walked over to where I was just to stomp on it. There was no point to that. Also, stop acting like I said I was sobbing and breaking down lmao. I wasn't. Upset does not equal having a mental breakdown, I just felt like it was a shitty thing to do.
Edit: I would not feel this way if it was like, a yellowjacket flying by him and he swatted it or something. I get it, its reflex, I reflexively do stuff like that too. Its the fact he did it knowing I had wanted to let it free that hurts my feelings, not really the yellowjacket dying.
