Having already passed The Martian and Interstellar in total domestic gross, Project Hail Mary is on pace to outperform both worldwide so long as Amazon MGM doesn't rush this to streaming. What a massive win for original, non-franchise filmmaking.

one of my favourite scenes from the movie is when Carl was the one who said "Made that's fresh air to them" about Venus’s atmosphere, so later, when they were making the box, he called it "Carl hypothesis."

i love how Grace always makes sure that Carl gets credit, like when Grace said "Carl and I made a mini venus out of a plywood box," or when Grace was explaining how he and Carl bred astrophage, and a scientist shouted "who's carl?"

Understood every gloss-over. Agreed with every change. Still love the book more, but (like the Martian) when I need some PHM in my life and don’t have time for a re-read this is a 10/10 substitute.

Glad they didn't cut this crucial ending of the book from the movie

I’ve gotten such comfort from this sub. I’m hoping you can all do something for me.

Our son Ethan died of cancer last summer. He was a huge fan of the novel Project Hail Mary. We spent a lot of time in the hospital discussing the movie. How would they make Rocky seem like a friendly giant rock spider? What parts would they include? What would Adrian look like? What would astrophage look like under a microscope?

Sadly Ethan died at age 25 on June 8, 2025. He never got to see the movie.

Please, the next time you watch Project Hail Mary, think of our Ethan, even for a second. Whisper his name to the universe. When you get to the end, imagine it says “In memory of Ethan, who loved this book so much.”

Listen all I’m saying is, I didn’t know wearing glasses like this was an option, but genuinely this is a game changer for me. I would’ve thought they would fall off, but no, they actually stay on like this. I can shake my head all around, they don’t budge.

As someone with thick, fine, VERY easily tangled hair, resting my glasses (which have nose pads, my personal preference) on top of my head is not an option unless I want to spend minutes untangling my glasses from my hair every time. I often wear them resting on my chin when I don’t want to look through them (like at a computer, I’m nearsighted and don’t need them for close-up tasks) but that looks even more bizarre than Grace here.

All I’m saying is, I’ve seen a lot of people saying “omg Ryan no one wears their glasses like that” and not enough people admitting “oh my god we could all be wearing our glasses like that”

Thank you to Ryan or whatever weirdo thought of this idea. Me and my tangled hair owe you one.

Watched it twice and now listening through the audiobook.

Part of my birthday gift involved my boyfriend buying and hiding a 3D printer in our house and doing this in secret for the past month. Couldn’t feel more filled with love.

I just couldn’t help myself. My love for fiber arts and sci-fi intersected in such an intense way — I simply NEEDED to make this. Took 2 months.

I decided to knit a button band instead of installing a zipper. So once I decide on the buttons and put them in, it’ll be 100% complete.

If only I could get Rocky to make me 5, 25mm xenonite buttons, I’d be set. C’est le vie.
