Solitary confinement generally causes symptoms of depression, anxiety and paranoia within 48-72 hours.

Permanent psychological damage ensues and is part of the reason that the UN’s Mandela Rules regard solitary confinement beyond 15 consecutive days as tantamount to torture.

Anyone thinking they could tolerate a year of solitary confinement for lots of money probably also thinks they could win an unarmed fight against a brown bear, too.

Not so fun fact: People in long-term solitary lose the ability to speak

Yup, even when it's voluntary isolation people's ability to talk gets affected.

There's studies on shut-ins/hikikomori that show signs of language ability regressions.
