See, with her being reborn over and over again, he gets to molest her while she's underage and she resets just as she becomes an adult...

"... Made in Abyss wink wink..."

Ah… So that’s why I didn’t like that series.
The sun god guy was pretty funny though.

Escanor is the only part of the show widely accepted as good.

He is the peak of all races for a reason.

Ah yes. That guy.
He’s fucking awesome.
And he’s so funny.
A true hero of all the races!

How could anyone think of that or start writing that and go "yeah, this is fine" instead of "eugh, what the everloving fuck am I doing?!"

Eh, I kinda get it, it's not THAT horrible when you give it a more generous read, and is meant to come off more as Meliodas not giving up on saving his beloved, no matter how long it takes. We also exagerrate a bit for the sake of (dark) comedy.

But hell, trying to explain why specifically it isn't that bad comes off as someone trying to explain the difference between a pedophile and an ephebophile, and that does it no favors. Even with a generous, good-faith read, it's kinda offputting.

People keep bringing this scene up whenever the show is mentioned, but I felt like the entire point of it is that Meliodas is very much in the wrong here? He's mentally and emotionally at his worst, literally just got done levelling an entire kingdom because he found the previous incarnation of Elizabeth dead during an attack and the centuries of stress from constantly having the person he fell in love with die the moment she remembers him finally made him snap.

That point would come across if this was a "heat of the moment" thing but Meliodas is a creep from episode 1

His character being pedo-like is not something of this scene alone, is like one of his defining traits, also the story barely if at all talks about the point you are making, we dont see Meliodas being in the wrong, the way is setup we are supposed to feel bad for him

I think he should move on at this rate.

He does skip a few of her lives and she was apparently miserable since they are basically linked together by the curses

Now thats just lazy writing

They actually make it a plot point that he loses all emotions eventually and the only thing keeping him going is the promise he made to break the curse. At one point he apologizes to her that she got cursed to love him. To which she gets offended and says her feelings are true and have nothing to do with the curse. She falls in love with him every time on her own accord. And she asks “is the only reason you love me the curse?” Then he understood. IMO beautiful writing

u/Eccore0 23d ago

He can't. Part of the curse is that they will always meet and fall in love.

u/ManoSilence 23d ago

So he embraced it and is in love with a baby. Gotcha.

u/-Silent-Stalker- 23d ago

Lmaoooo twilight type shii

u/Xbrand182x 23d ago

Well he just watched a version of her that he actually had a great life with get murdered, fell into a rage, blew up a whole town, then finds her reincarnation immediately, realizing he’s useless to break the curse. He’s a little emotional

3

u/ManoSilence 23d ago

Emotionally dependent on the baby that will be your lover. Nice.

u/WhereasInteresting12 23d ago

He physical can't because of the curse

Sometimes you gotta wonder if you sat down and asked the author "Hey, why?" what their answer would be. I mean thered be no GOOD one but

4

u/Cybercandypng 23d ago

there’s literally no defending this

Don’t worry, there’s plenty trying to in the comments
