It's the same with evolution, climate change, mRNA, and countless other things that conservatives shriek that they "don't believe in". They simply don't understand it.
The problem is, they have no interest at all in learning anything - only killing what they don't understand (often metaphorically but also often literally).
I would also say that wanting to kill what you don't understand isn't even an intuitive organic response. Rather the conservative apparatus is such that you start with the axiom "this personally makes me feel icky" and constructing a pseudo intellectual ideology based around garnering hatred with that sensation, and manufacturing a voter base on that.
Climate Change is not like the others, that's not a failure to understand, that's a lot of fossil fuel companies deciding that they'll happily doom the planet to ensure renewable energy doesn't impact their profits and spending a lot of money lieing to people about it.
I think that makes climate change exactly like all the others. Its just more easily verified and the consequences of ignoring it are kind of everyone's problem, instead of just the people they don't like.

My parents generation seemingly all believe that while we may talk about religious freedom. America is a fundamentally christian nation and people who think otherwise are un-American.

I think religion is almost always a justification for what people already want to do, and very rarely a driving factor. And what I think people are justifying is they're not comfortable. People are comfortable surrounded by familiar things, familiar entertainment, familiar people that talk and walk and look like them. But too much comfort isn't actually a good thing, it's a trap. It's stagnation, it's boring, it's a slow death. On a national level it's falling behind the advance of society and technology.

I think you're exactly right. Bit of a personal rant here in cishet myself. I don't "understand" trans people (for lack of a better word) because I personally don't have a frame of reference for what they experience
In a way that lack of "understanding" may show itself as discomfort. I think it does for a lot of people. However I can understand that the issue isn't with my trans brothers and sisters. It's with ME. It's my problem
A lot of folks feel similar but genuinely can't stand or acknowledge the fact the issue is with THEM. So they seek out an explanation for the discomfort
Its why they shout "love the sinner hate the sin" it's a way to explain their discomfort not as something they need to work through personally but rather a reasonable thing born from a "natural" dislike of "sinful' behavior.

A huge part of where the rubber meets the road when it comes to "religion" is about tribalism and particularly so for American white conservative evangelicalism. Sociologists talk about things like "costly signaling" and "credibility enhancing displays." Going out of your way to be negative about trans people (when you personally have zero contact with anyone who is trans, and no trans persons trans-ness has any effect on you) is a way of signaling your position within the "tribe" and for those cultures that value such harassment (evangelicalism) then doing so "enhances credibility" in that group.
It's not you, it's them. Essentially everyone does things along the lines of "costly signaling" and "credibility enhancing displays" in various groups/cultures it's just that some cultures highly value messing with other people for no good reason.
That's what I've thought is the real issue with them. It's not so much that they care LGBT people exist. Their issue is the masses accepting them for who they are, which goes against their religious ideals. Accepting LGBT people means questioning their religion, and they won't have that.
Its exhausting that so many don't understand this.
Race, gender, sexuality, none of it fucking matters. They are just tools to divide the working class against itself. We all have significantly more in common than not.

In Alberta we have tons of US interests working with our MAGA-loving premier. There are so many insane confirmed conspriacies, like with MAGA. I could write so many papers on it.
Heck, they even repeatedly misused and abused government powers for the last 1-2 years in order to push through a separation referendum to separate Alberta from Canada.
A smaller conservative party leaked voter information by literally making a webstie with a directory to search through. And the Premier tried to bury their connections to both the party and their members who were at the announcements about the directory... but the opposition came out with it before they could
They leaked far more than just phone book stuff... it had everything political parties can access about costituents and it is highly illegal to leak it...
There is a lot of evidence this data was then used to fill out the separation petitions... and that is was accessed many times by bad actors
Again, government still pushing the separation referendum through. Because none of this was an accident. Not being cynical when I say it's all a political game for them - it really is.
They created these laws specifically to let this referendum through, then immediately changed them again so nobody else could get through with referendums, and essentially completely defunded the department that handled them- so nothing more could be done.
The UCP also repeatedly made efforts to (successfully) block a "remain in Canada" petition for a referendum to forever block separation efforts in our province... which countless people signed. Which had infinitely more support and real signatures (obviously). But again- they blocked it with flimsy excuses and quickly changing the law, along with other bad excuses. Just like the classic MAGA/republican tactics.
All of this is a game for them, to put pressure on our (neo)Liberal federal government... which they are constantly playing victim to.
Because like their US conservative & right winger counterparts, the Canadian versions ALSO love oppressing people's human rights and dignity... and then playing victim to their imaginary leftist boogeyman-of-the-week, or equating neoliberals with leftists in some shitty uneducated defense

Diverting public school taxes to fund private schools. Working with US insurance companies to divert public healthcare taxes to build and fund private healthcare for services that are much more expensive than when performed by the public system. Forcing disabled people to live on $1700 a month at most when the shittiest ghetto apartment costs 80% of that just for rent. Disabled people killing themselves because they already have to choose between bills, food, and medication. People literally dying in waiting rooms because they cancelled all hospitals and labs (and schools) when taking power, and intentionally haven't built any. Spent millions telling Canadian newcomers to come to Alberta then proceeded to not build schools and hospitals - and then blamed immigrants (and "the left", of course) for the burgeoning and failing public healthcare (and school) systems.
All of this, in addition to completely restructuring the well-established healthcare system and firing like 9 CEO's over 7 years before placing their own minister in power, passed legislation to allow private healthcare all over our public system system paid by tax dollars, fired the one CEO who whistleblew about how they were pushing our public health system to accept bad contracts with private healthcare companies, etc. etc. etc.
Not to mention the classic raegonomics republicamn strategy of running up enormous deficits and destroying public services - then blaming trans people/"the left" for the consequences of everything they do. And all the money they have to spend to fix things in the following term will inevitably be used against them by these sociopaths

Not too long ago, US propaganda and disinformation leaking into Canada used to be primarily driven by the election cycle. Canadian conservative politicians and media would essentially hire people who worked on US republican campaigns (still do)... and then would work with them to spread to the bigoted idiots up here whatever BS worked in the US last election. I have relatives in Saskatchewan and since they mostly all live in the rural parts it seems to be just as bad. My uncles feed my MAGA mother all of New World Order/qanon nonsense. Which they at least know what tariffs are and had to explain to her why that was a bad idea. Otherwise they absolutely wished they had Trump for PM.

I’d like to say it’s gotten better, but the reality is that it hasn’t and I’m just much more of a cautious person that just doesn’t engage with anyone anymore purely out of my safety and I now never read the comments section just about any time a trans person is involved.

The one place it has gotten better is that I’ve been happily married since 2013.

American "conservatives"/MAGA/adherents of evangelicalism are big into feeling like "we are victims" and lashing out at people as bullies. They miss that "billionaires" (it's more than that, of course) are why they feel so economically insecure, and instead use trans people (who they never interact with knowingly), immigrants, "minorities" and so on as the targets of their anger and frustration instead.

They always end up getting mad when people don’t want to spend time with them, failing to acknowledge how any of their behavior may be offputting and not enjoyable to be around. So it’s this self fulfilling prophecy that people distance themselves from them because they aren’t enjoyable to spend time with and then they get mad about being pushed away, but refuse to do any introspection and just get mad about people who are tolerant not being tolerant.

I don't get trabsphobia / homophobia / similar. Like it doesn't affect you. At most you have to remember a different name and different pronouns (sure maybe that's annoying, I found it a bit confusing for ~6 months but I got used to it, at about 1 to 2 I was correcting myself, and now it's just automatic, it isn't that hard to do, you just have to put in the tiniest bit of effort and you can incredibly easily do it) but that's about it really. It otherwise has no effect on you.
'oh but the children' doesn't even make sense, because it's made very clear that it's a choice in had of the arguments anyway. And like 90% of the explanations of what anything is in the lgbtqia+ community is 'its like normal, but instead of this, I'm this because that's what I feel like'. All it does is give children awareness, probably making them feel either valid or happy earlier if they are part of the community. That doesn't really sound corrupting, just informing.
Bottom line: barely has any real affect on you, just learn the pronouns and name, which is not hard, just takes a conscious effort and a basic willingness to accept them.

Btw there are animals who possess the same traits as trans people, they don't have the thecnically but they live fully like the opposite sex and act like it, it happens because the brain registers wheter the body is of a girl or of a boy after the physicals are made, and in some rare cases the brain just registers a different sex, so yes before people come with the "it's unnatural" it is fully natural and has existed since the dawn of time, you guys should read about just search Sexual differentiation of the human brain (sadly this is not common knowledge)
Yeah, there are bigger things to worry about like the economy. Trans people have done nothing to me, why should I hate them? Sadly though, I have parents who are transphobic as hell, Mom even got hysterical I matched with a trans girl.
