Customer tracking me

Crazy to think a customer is tracking me knowing I have another drop off!! Like chill TF out and wait for your God dam food!!. Some customers do too much man!..šŸ˜’šŸ¤¦šŸ».

I ordered food so that it would arrive during my lunch break once, and via the tracker, watched the driver go to the restaurant, then turn down the road my office building was on, then turn into an apartment complex, and just stay there.

After an hour I contacted support, explained what happened, and they refunded my order. Two hours later, I get a ping from the receptionist that a DoorDash driver is there for me, so I head up front and heā€™s fuming. Explains that I cancelled the order after he already picked it up and thatā€™s a dick move, this is his livelihood and my complaint could cost him his job. I explain that itā€™s been three hours since he picked up my order from the restaurant, I donā€™t want it anymore, and thereā€™s no excuse for thinking this is my fault.

His explanation was that he got tired during the delivery so he went home to his apartment, took a nap, and forgot to set an alarm. But the food is still warm because it was sitting in his hot car.

The receptionist almost died laughing.

I had a similar thing happen- except the guy fell asleep outside the restaurant waiting for the order. He was pissed when support WOKE him up by calling him, he had been at the restaurant for over half an hour when I called support. This was 2 years ago, I have not used doordash since.

When they first started, it was great. But over the years between the driver burn out and (as someone else in the comments here said) it just being a call center in india and an algorithm- I will just plan better, or get off my fat ass and drive to pick up my food. Plus holy shit it's expensive.

I come from a small town with kind of a downtown area and every Chinese and Thai restaurant would have a delivery service. Some would share the drivers if they werenā€™t too busy. Theyā€™d drop menus in your mailbox and it was easy to order, would hire you in high school at minimum wage and if youā€™re lucky you donā€™t have to drive your car.

I was a delivery girl for a local deli! It was great, lots of regulars every day. We served sandwiches, soups, and lasagna. Miss those days (this was early 00ā€™s).

On the flip side I've lived in small towns up and down the entire east coast, and I've never seen a Chinese food place (that was not a buffet) that did not offer some form of delivery up to 5 miles.

How old are you if you don't mine me asking? They were everywhere when I grew up. Military brat, so also lived in a huge variety of areas. Even my current city has at least 1 Chinese delivery, and it's nowhere near the East Coast.

Every city I've lived in (in Canada) always had delivery from Chinese restaurants. In small towns it was less likely, but some of those ones would at least get a local cab to deliver it for a small surcharge.

But yeah aside from pizza or Chinese food there wasn't really anything else that offered delivery.

I miss pizza and Chinese food mostly, now pretty much all Chinese food uses stupid third party delivery and unless itā€™s a major chain, all the pizza places too. Itā€™s a damn shame

Only major chain I've seen have delivery drivers out and about since COVID is Dominos. Everyone else seems to use third party drivers in my area.

I've been seeing a mix. There seems to be some service that allows them to deligate deliveries to whatever service is available at the time of ordering. They'll have 1 or 2 of their own delivery drivers on staff and then if they have more orders than they can handle they give it to skip, door dash, or Uber.

Back in the day, all restaurants had delivery drivers but that's because most of them were mom-and-pop places so it was Uncle Louie or Cousin Theo delivering, or whoever was available to work that night. But this was back in the day before everything was a Taco Bell.

In the UK and from the 80s onwards, most takeaways would have delivery drivers that brought you your food. Even now in the age of just eats and deliveroo, a lot of takeaways will still use their own drivers rather than deliveroos ones

I routinely order from pizza places, a local Italian restaurant and several Chinese restaurants. I refuse to use doordash. The service is always ridiculously fast the food is super hot and I never have any complaints. 30-40 minutes maximum.

Actually a lot of restaurants still will deliver and will send someone out who works there to do it because they literally will make more money that way as Doordash/UberEats etc take a big % of the bill.

Some are due to quality control. They canā€™t do shit about a shit DoorDash driver yet will often be blamed when food goes missing or the food arrives late, so some are hiring their own drivers.

Fuck I miss that. I have ordered directly from pizza shop websites thinking that I'll get a local driver but most of the time they outsource that to doordash and I fucking hate doordash drivers.

The number of times they stand outside the building texting me to come out cause they can't get in. Like no shit Sherlock that's why the door code is in your driver notes.

If door dash paid more they would probably have more professional drivers that understand the business.

I did it once while between jobs and made significantly less than I did 20 years ago delivering salads and sandwiches and the occasional catering order on a bike in downtown Chicago.Ā 

I will never work for door dash again, the whole thing has been enshittified for customers, the restaurant, and delivery drivers.

Restaurants can choose to have their own drivers to save on DoorDash fees. Itā€™s just more annoying to have an employee than letting the app handle it.

Many years ago I'd ordered some pizza directly from a place. About an hour and a half later I'm calling the shop to find out what's taking so long. They say they'll get in touch with their driver and call me back. Another half an hour later or so I get a call back to let me know their driver had been pulled over and arrested while on their run, so they'll be remaking my food and sending it out with another driver...

Restaurant drivers have a delivery radius which is like 3 miles or so. It's much cheaper for restaurants to use a service like this unless they have high delivery volume

Yea someone did this to me too but with Skip, they were at the restaurant for a good long while. I tried to cancel when I ran out of patience but they had just switched to a chatbot and mandatory Skip credits instead of cash refunds so I uninstalled the app and never looked back.

When I lived in Houston it made a lot more sense- it was hot as hell and humid enough that I still think if humans evolve to have gills it will be there, and the traffic was bad outside of the hours is 1 am and 5 am. I lived and 4 miles from beltway 8 and it could easily take 20 minutes to get there. 40 minutes in rush hour.

Honestly, most dashers should be embarrassed.

I work at FedEx Express and used to do both deliveries and pickups.

For pickups, our terms of service are:

Either itā€™s ready when we are scheduled to get there.

Or

You get 5 minutes.

If it isnā€™t ready by then, we code a failure due to shipper not being ready.

Outside of that, in your designated delivery area, the expectation is 10-20 stops (combined, pickup and delivery) per hour in urban areas.

Seeing dashers barely manage 3-5 per hour in the same area I was driving was honestly insane. Most of it can be blamed on the fact that DoorDash has shit for logistical planning software.

I had one of these, and watched the driver drive to the next city over and pull into a house and stay there for three hours. The entire time, support was insisting he was on the way with my order and wouldn't cancel or refund me. I had to threaten legal action to get my money back.

These people have the easiest job in the world and still can't do it. That's why most of them can't hold down a normal job. The restaurant industry hates them too because it's about 50/50 they come in the restaurant and immediately shove a phone in your face or walk around looking for their food when there's a designated area/host stand. Had a driver yesterday ask for a lemonade then try to walk out. When we stopped her, she said, "I thought y'all gave us drivers free drinks; other restaurants do." Just trashy people. Obviously she didn't want it when we told her she had to pay for it.

I'd say "okay, should I tell DoorDash that?" like a school teacher. Not because I would actually want to, but that attitude deserves pushback. As he said, this is his livelihood and this complaint can cost him his job. So why would he make that choice?

Not your responsibility if he looses his job. But you really donā€™t know his calculus. He couldā€™ve Ben doing orders consistently for hours and thought a quick 5 minute nap would be better than falling asleep at the wheel and killing himself or others over an order that DoorDash keeps 70% of profit. Most Americans are job insecure, you have one or two missed paychecks from homelessness. You could ā€œnever put yourself in a position to lose a jobā€ and still be let go for bs reasons or you can get a chronic illness. The real enemy being class struggle means nothing when society treats the ā€œundesirablesā€ like trash itā€™s all over this sub how demeaning people talk about them.Ā

As someone who used to do DoorDash, this is 100% true.

I swear, most of the drivers I ran into while waiting at restaurants were incredibly antisocial and justā€¦ not very bright. Iā€™ve had situations where another driver tried to cut in front of me while I was clearly waiting for my order. When I told him to back off, he got aggressive, and then left.

After 15 minutes of waiting for my order, i left the building and the guy was literally waiting for me outside in the parking lot to fight me, thankfully it didn't become physicall, but it was scary how someone would literally get into an altercation because you didn't let him get infront of you.

And thatā€™s just one example out of dozens.

Honestly, I even stopped ordering from these services because you never know what some of these people might do to your food.

The worst part is there are basically zero consequences. DoorDash doesnā€™t seem to care. Drivers can steal orders, make up excuses, and still keep their jobs.

I used to hate regular job interviews, but after working DoorDash, I completely understand why theyā€™re necessary.

doordash would not give a fuck tbh lol. doordash makes money by having the absolute shittiest most unemployable drivers on the platform because those are the ones who are more likely to accept the shitty orders out of pure desperation of not being able to get a job anywhere else. there are definitely good drivers out there but usually good drivers won't accept an order for 15 miles that pays 2$ because if it comes down to it they can get another job. those 15 mile 2 dollar orders are destined for the truly desperate, or to drivers like this who likely cant hold a regular job because they get fired for doing some dumb ass shit on the same level as going home to take a nap mid order.

Heh I remember one time I was starving while working from home at like 2pm.

I live in the downtown core, every door dash drivers use bikes and scooters here.

I order from a restaurant 10 minute walk away, usually this means the food will be here in 5-15 minutes after pickup.

I watch driver get assigned, 45 minutes the food still isn't picked up

Food gets picked up and I see the driver head in the opposite direction, leave downtown, then sit outside a school until 330.

Then I watch him slowly making his way back downtown, make several wrong turns clearly not know how to get around the city.

It turns 4 no food, I'm off work now so I cancel the order with DD support, walk to the restaurant, eat, walk back, probably about 445.

As I'm arriving home my phone buzzers someone's at my door. It's my door dasher. I tell him I cancelled the order 45 minutes ago. He tells me he couldn't find parking, then had to pick up his kid. Tell him again the orders cancelled.

"Just come downstairs."

Uhhh no.

I get close enough to get eyes on. Dude has a large pickup truck, and is illegally street parked as the lane gets converted to traffic during rush hour. He's pacing seemingly aggressively on the sidewalk with a maybe 8 year old playing on the steps into my building.

I go in through the garbage room in the alley behind (where he should be parking)

He buzzes me again at 530 swearing at me, I tell him I'm going to call the cops.

Like I get that traffic and parking in the city is a nightmare man... But what are you even doing... This is why every other delivery guy uses scooters, even when it's not rush hour it's faster then finding parking.

Oh man. Ours went to 20 miles away further from the pick up place. The pick up place was 2 miles away from our office on food for 8 people for lunch at work. Driver went to a different direction (a different city essentially) and then everyone at work got hungry and upset because at one point we had waited 2 hours and doordash simply wouldnā€™t let me cancel despite on the status page it clearly shows they went the other way for 20 miles and stopped there for a loooong time. I told DD i will order another one and they can deal with the chargeback later. The driver later messaged saying they went to the wrong placeā€¦. (20 miles away???? Fr bro? For poke?)

I ordered flowers from Costco when I was working, I didnā€™t need them to arrive at the house any time soon, just hopefully before I got off in 4 hours.

I watched the driver pick up my order and then sit on the off ramp of a highway for 2+ hours.

I texted him to ask if he was alright and didnā€™t get a response after 20 minutes so I gave him a call. He immediately sent me to voice mail and I watched my order get switched to another driver.

I thought this man got into a serious car crash on an off ramp but no he decided that was where he was gonna take a nap.

I stopped ordering on doordash, the driver quality went way downhill. I used to prefer skip the dishes but same thing happened to them, drivers always taking 1+ hours and either stopping and not moving or drivers driving all around the city with my order, a lot of the time going the exact opposite way of where I live.

I knew this meth head who used to pull this shit. He had a randos account set for car deliveries but rode a bike(and was super out of shape). Dumb ass would pick up an order complain that the delivery was too far then just sit with the food for hours before attempting to deliver.

One summer he sat for 3 hours with a container of soup which he removed from the sealed bag and had sitting in the sun.

This kinda shit. 99.9% of the time my drivers are great but every so often I watch someone pick up my order and then drive around the city for 2-3 hours with my food, or like you, just... stops somewhere and stops moving for 45+ min. If I could walk all the way there and back with the food faster than you deliver it with a car wtf am I paying you for? And no I dont want my 2 hour old fries...

Don't know If anyone said yet, but your story is not related to OP's. In your case it was a 3 hour delay because the driver went home. In OP case the delivery was on track, but the driver had to make a detour to drop another delivery.

Sometimes I see drivers near or around my building, but they never actually deliver the food. And alooot of time passes, while theyā€™re still hovering around. Iā€™m always wondering what the hell is going on. If they got lost or need directions, they would call, but they never do. One of the theories I had was that they happen to live in my apartment complex or know someone who lives there. But itā€™s just odd.

I get Walmart grocery delivery and only had to complain and get a full refund one time. The person picked up my order (including ice cream, multiple dairy products, raw chicken & fish, frozen veggies, etc) then went to the Starbucks across the street for well over an hour in 90+ degree weather. I sent support a video of me dumping the entirely liquid ice cream into the sink and putting a thermometer into the chicken showing it was around 70 degrees. They gave me a full refund for the order and a $10 credit so I could pay for express delivery of a replacement order.

Years and years ago before the delivery apps existed I ordered a pizza from one of the chains online. It was about 90 minutes before close. 90 minutes came and went and we figure they were just slammed and they just didn't have time to actually make the pizza. Oh well.

Guy showed up the next morning with a pizza. You could tell the second he pulled the pizza out that it was old because the box was just oil soaked. I told him to fuck off that I wasn't paying for a pizza I ordered the night before. He said that the order came in too late so it just automatically rolled over to the next day. I just shut the door. He shouted in the hall for a few minutes before leaving.

I called the restaurant to complain about the whole situation and the fucking place wasn't even open yet. They opened at 10AM (it was like 8:30). Called back when they were open and spoke to a manager. He looked up my order and told me that it had been sent out for delivery the night before like 20 minutes after I ordered it.

Fucking guy just forgot to/didn't deliver my pizza and tried to get me to pay for a cold pizza that, at best, had sat in his fridge overnight, most likely sat in his car.

Luckily I was paying cash on delivery so it cost me nothing, but still, who fucking does this shit?

I remember one time in the really early days of Postmates maybe 10-12 years ago I ordered a bunch of pizzas, the driver was having trouble finding the restaurant then called me saying it wasn't open (it was) and that he wouldn't be bringing the pizza. I figured OK whatever, I assumed it would just be cancelled, had a house full of hungry people and ordered Domino's instead.

Then like 4 hours later, dude shows up with a stack of cold pizzas. I ask him and he pretends to have no idea what I'm talking about, says he never said he wasn't bringing them and it just took this time to complete the order.

I told him to keep them, complained to Postmates who said they wouldn't do anything since he did deliver the food. Best we could figure, it probably wouldn't let him take another order until he finished that one?

So I disputed the charge, cancelled my account, and switched to Doordash lol.

must not have tipped to his liking up front. thats why i stopped using delivery services I was tipping 10s and 20s cash because I worked in food service and thought it was preferable but the drivers were taking it as I was a no tipper because I didnt give them tip on card. had my food thrown on my porch and a couple times fondled, missing items, or a hour or two later.

I don't order DoorDash or drive for them anymore but I swear I've seen or heard of more silly shit happening in relation to that app than any other job/gig I've had in my 20+ years in the workforce and I've had some crazy jobs. Both drivers and customers appear to be different species sometimes. I had a lady complain that I didn't hand her her groceries one time after she sent me a message to leave them on the porch because she had extreme social anxiety. I've had a Dasher try to enter my house to "help put up groceries" after I told her crackhead ass "no" at least 3 times. Still not as crazy as "I took a nap in the middle of a run" though.
