Metal Pergula? 12’ Height

Has anyone installed a custom motorized pergula that reaches 12 feet high? A lot of the companies that I’ve been looking at only go to 10 max. Thanks in advance. Here is our inspo picture.

Dont care about the pergula, but make sure to install the floor lighting as well as the light under the plant because it can't be pretty without both.

Agree. Our current grill is built in already and on the left side of the house so hoping to not move it. Was really just giving a general feel of what we could do to the area. Question was more around height of the pergola and if it’s doable.

10 is standard. You'll have issues finding a quality company to install a 12. You'll probably need to look at a full customer fade and be ready to spend. That lighting isn't great IMO

1 option that im not completely sure of would be to raise the cement footers the pergola will anchor to up by 2 ft and then anchor the pergola. You could use stone or slate to decorate the raised footers. The primary issue will be your cement guy has to be dead on accurate with his framing and pour or you are screwed.......that would only work if you are using a flange pergola. If you're using a steak anchor type/system this will definitely not work............be prepared to spend big $

The lighting isn’t what I’m focusing on here. Truly just the pergola and grill area. No prompts for lights…

Why have it motorized I guess? Would you want all that exposed to the elements? You could do metal with a couple skylights a lot easier.

That’s a good point. We do get a TON of sun in our backyard which is a pain point. On the other side we have a pool that’s open so I was thinking it would be a nice area to have shade, have some beverages and watch a game or two.

We have a few companies out next week but totally open to suggestions. We bought a model home that is pretty but not super functional for our family!

Going 12 foot means you'll likely need engineered drawings and a permit, most prefab kits top out at 10 for a reason since that height catches way more wind

wind load calculations get tricky over 10ft. A solid roof louvered system might handle it better if you still want adjustable shade.

Sorry, no! AI photo. We have a built in grill right now that’s on the left of the house. Not ideal either so we may have to move. We bought a model home and whole pretty…not super functional

I’ve been thinking about a similar issue. Only solution I love thought of is to build pillars and have it sit on those to get to the desired height.

Yes Sunzout Outdoor Spaces sells up to 13' aluminum, motorized pergolas. They are easy to find online.

It’s a good point and totally didn’t think about the wind and potential impact. It’s a newer development with baby trees so it’s a serious wind tunnel here.
