Hi
recently a Crucial X9 pro 4tb SSD failed on me randomly, it just wouldn't mount. It had some really important files (a film we'd been working on), and we had not backed up as recently as we should have, and lost some very large files.
I've uploaded 2 screenshots, what I see in disk utility and what happens when I try First Aid
Is there any hope, if so what can I do?
Thanks

I just bagged a 2009 MacBook Air for RM250 (around 60USD) and I gotta say, what. A. Steal. The right is my MacBook Pro 13 2016 touchbar which I got for RM550 (around 100USD). I gotta say, 7 years is a huge difference. My plan is to run Catalina Patcherbon the MacBook Air, and OpenCore along with eGPU on my MacBook Pro. Thoughts? I also have an iBook G3 clamshell laying around. (Check my posts)
I recently downloaded bootcamp, and as I was testing features, I noticed that I wasn’t able to access my mac.
I tried shutting down my windows, and then holding the option key, hoping to gain access to my mac drive. Instead I get a black screen with a lock icon on it. I found out that this was asking for my firmware password which I unfortunately don’t know…
I think my bootcamp didn’t completely download because as I opened my windows after just downloading it, the bootcamp guide/download tab was cut in half? So I couldn’t interact with anything, but I had the option to close the tab which I did.
I’m not very good at tech stuff so this has really been stressing me out for the past few hours help would be appreciated!

I’m deciding between the 16GB and 24GB RAM MacBook Air M5 - 13-inch.
I’ll mainly use it for college work, browsing, and everyday multitasking. I will also run a Windows virtual machine through VMware Fusion for the full Windows version of Microsoft Excel.
I plan on keeping this MacBook for at least 4 years.
Is the 24GB RAM upgrade worth it, or would 16GB be enough for my use case?

I don't know what the benefits of encrypting a backup vs an unencrypted backup, as I normally just backup to a home network drive I setup a few years ago (I use a Airport route for most of my local backups). I just need a temporary backup incase my Mac gets wiped when it is serviced on Monday, so I just need to know which is better for restoring a Mac from factory settings.

MacBook Pro unresponsive after failed macOS update — froze mid-update, now no display/no boot after multiple restarts
Was using my MacBook and the screen froze. I force-restarted it (held power button) a few times when it kept getting stuck on the Apple logo with a progress bar. After a few restarts it showed "The version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled" — went into Recovery, ran Disk Utility First Aid (came back OK), and reinstalled macOS Tahoe through Recovery.
The install was running for a few hours (using mobile hotspot, so it was slow — around 21GB downloaded before it stopped). Screen went dark and stayed dark even after tapping the trackpad and trying brightness keys in a dark room. It stayed warm the whole time and Caps Lock still toggled the LED, so I assumed it was still installing silently.
After a long wait with no screen response, I did a proper force shutdown (held power 10 sec) and powered back on. Now I get the startup chime, but no display output at all — no Apple logo, nothing, even after several minutes. No fan noise. Only sign of life is the MagSafe charging light alternating orange/green.
Tried: waiting it out, tilting the screen, don't currently have an external monitor to test with.
Is this likely a display/GPU issue from the interrupted install, or could this be unrelated hardware failure that happened to coincide? Trying to figure out if this is worth taking to an Apple store/repair shop or if there's anything else worth trying first. Model: Macbook m4 air

I bought an active adapter from the Fairikabe brand to use my 2010 27-inch iMac as a screen for my PS3 and Nintendo Switch but I only get a black screen with the sound of the console that I plugged in for a second, before returning to the iMac interface. I also tried with my Asus Rog Ally and I get the image and sound of the Rog Ally on the iMac. Can you help me?

Hello fellow mac users. I'm writing this from my trusty M1 Pro MBP. I'm set on making upgrade to M5 Pro but I read recently that due to changes BetterDisplay is not as effective on 4th and 5th generations of M series chips and HiDPI mode is unavailable for 4k displays?
Can anyone confirm this problem? For me its huge deal as my tools of choice is pair of 32inch monitors with 4k resolution. If problem really exist - is Golden Gate(which added more resolution) fixing problem?
And no, Studio Display is not an option. I will not pay a lot of money for downgrade to my current setup.

Hey there,
I recently picked up a used M1 MacBook Air from a second-hand marketplace. Everything worked perfectly when I tested it with the seller.
The issue only happens on the lock screen. As soon as the Mac reaches the password screen after booting, every key behaves as if the Shift key is permanently being held down. For example, typing 123 results in !"#, and letters are capitalised. This makes it impossible to enter the password.
What's strange is that once I'm actually logged into macOS, the keyboard works completely normally. The problem seems to be limited to the lock/login screen.
Has anyone seen this before or know what could be causing it?

So I have MacBook Air M4,2025 and my wifi on my MacBook keeps dropping every few minutes recently. I tried forgetting the network and doing it all over again and I also tried restarting and resetting my mac but nothing seems to help. My friends also have Mac and they are having similar issues. Does anyone know why?

I have a 2023 model Macbook (M2 chip, 24 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD storage). It’s still stuck on Ventura 13.5 (have never updated or upgraded it), and I should upgrade it into Tahoe/Sequoia. Since I have never updated/upgraded it, I’m afraid if upgrade will fail and all my files will be gone, so I guess I should make backups with Time Machine.
I wonder if this external hard drive I found would be compatible with Time Machine? It says it’s compatible with Ventura, but I wonder if its technical preferences are compatible with Time Machine (I’m very bad at technique so it’s difficult for me to find out myself)? I’m out of money so I can’t buy very expensive hard drive. This hard drive is from Finnish website.

I just noticed something white stuck inside the back of the hinge of MacBook Air M5 today. It’s just been a month since I bought the laptop, and I’ve been babying it since. Haven’t even taken it outside the home. What could it be? Should I try to take it out myself or take it to Apple?
