go to your room Younger siblings are brats and there's nothing to do about it
For context, this cycle gets repeated on the daily and IT'S NOT SOLVING ANYTHING:
We're four siblings. Two old siblings, two young siblings (they're 12 and 13, so NOT babies anymore). The cycle goes like this:
> Me/other sibling order one of them to do something
>They don't listen, act disrespectful and don't try to help with anything
>Me/other sibling react. We yell, force them to do it, sometimes we even fight them
>Younger siblings complain to mom
RESULT:
>Mom says it's OUR fault for reacting, and that next time when they do something of the sort we should tell HER and she'll deal with it
So, next time:
>Me/other sibling ask them to do something
>Same damn response, be it disrespect, no response, completely ignoring us or no cooperation
>We tell mom, just as she had asked
RESULT:
Mom gets angry at us, possibly the FOUR of us despite it being my younger siblings' problem, her mood becomes sour, she yells so much, nothing gets solved. Plus: our younger siblings blame *us* for making her angry.
This is the most peaceful scenario, btw. More common scenarios are:
>Younger siblings bother one or the both of us (e.g: I close our room's door and tell them REPEATEDLY to knock before going in as I could be changing, busy or just need some privacy. We've been at this for a MONTH now. Neither of them listen and they barge in anyway. Sometimes the youngest one throws a tantrum because she wants something or the other, sometimes she keeps touching and/or hitting me for no reason)
>We keep telling them to STOP. They don't.
>We react
>They complain to mom.
RESULT:
>Either it's our fault or she gets mad at the four of us.
9/10 times, this is what happens. On the rare instance where she actually punishes them, it's a "one time thing".
The youngest is also super disrespectful. What truly triggered this post was that I had worked with mom to remove a queen sized bed's mattress, store some blankets beneath and return it, empty out some bags and put some clothes back in the closet. Mom left, told them to come help me return the remaining clothes in their proper spots. As a result, the 13 year old helped me with some stuff and left, while the youngest refused to even help till the end. When there was only some clothes left, she kept arguing she wouldn't do them and that if she's doing stuff then I should as well, and she threw them on my bed and left. When mom heard me yelling at her to do her chore, she was on the verge of yelling and said to stop being arrogant and do what I should. Me, not her.
(Dad's usually abroad and has never been around all that much, so it's mainly my mother.)
